Sure, I haven't been around here long, but just judging by the idea, this just seems like work with no impact. Kinda like... what's the point? Funsies?
I feel like if you want to gather up a group of people to do... something... it should be something truly productive.
For example:
- You must greet every single new member that posted in the introduction section in the past 24 hours.
- Post tips and tricks that apply to this forum. For example, best ways to customize your profile, how to start a conversation on someone's wall, etc. just making things up here.
- Everyone capable of posting a blog entry should post a blog entry. Collaborate on a subject here.
...and of course, you can do the whole theme avatar/signature combo as well. But it shouldn't just be that. To me, having a bunch of people coordinate something like that is akin to, "Hey, everyone, this is the cool kids club. We're gonna put on our uniforms now and parade around the neighborhood. What do ya think?"
If I were an "outsider," I'd be inclined to just roll my eyes and ignore what's going on. Clearly it's planned, but for what? What exactly are you trying to accomplish here?
Conversely, if you have everyone coordinate to be productive and benefit the community en masse, I think that's a much better route to take. In that case, as an "outsider," I can see these supporters are clearly doing their share of supporting (not just chipping in $20, chatting here and there or in their own corners).
I've seen my share of coordinated activities from all sorts of online communities. Some are not as well received as others. I've participated in many before, including ones that are just like this: simple flaunting. I'd rather participate in events that generate positive conversation, provide value, and grow the community.
My two cents.
