Sure, I haven't been around here long, but just judging by the idea, this just seems like work with no impact. Kinda like... what's the point? Funsies?

I feel like if you want to gather up a group of people to do... something... it should be something truly productive.

For example:
  • You must greet every single new member that posted in the introduction section in the past 24 hours.
  • Post tips and tricks that apply to this forum. For example, best ways to customize your profile, how to start a conversation on someone's wall, etc. just making things up here.
  • Everyone capable of posting a blog entry should post a blog entry. Collaborate on a subject here.

...and of course, you can do the whole theme avatar/signature combo as well. But it shouldn't just be that. To me, having a bunch of people coordinate something like that is akin to, "Hey, everyone, this is the cool kids club. We're gonna put on our uniforms now and parade around the neighborhood. What do ya think?"

If I were an "outsider," I'd be inclined to just roll my eyes and ignore what's going on. Clearly it's planned, but for what? What exactly are you trying to accomplish here?

Conversely, if you have everyone coordinate to be productive and benefit the community en masse, I think that's a much better route to take. In that case, as an "outsider," I can see these supporters are clearly doing their share of supporting (not just chipping in $20, chatting here and there or in their own corners).

I've seen my share of coordinated activities from all sorts of online communities. Some are not as well received as others. I've participated in many before, including ones that are just like this: simple flaunting. I'd rather participate in events that generate positive conversation, provide value, and grow the community.

My two cents.

Usually, the point of the theme collabs is just dressing up our avatars and signatures in characters from a certain series, or something like that.

I was not into many of the themes brought up in the last thread, but some did mention Undertale and that may be worth considering. I don't think we've done Homestuck characters either, and I know that fanbase is pretty big on this forum (heck, even some members are doing a mini-collab with the Christmas Homestuck avatars).

Mm. I guess I was confused then. If it's just for the sake of coordinating a theme and nothing else, then so be it. Title should probably reflect that, though. When I think of collaboration, I think of making, creating, providing, et al.

well, it'll still be winter, so an ice type theme? or a white pokemon theme? maybe even blue/yellow/grey Pokemon based on supporter tier? Trainer classes perhaps? although i think staff did something to that effect before back when ORAS came out.

otherwise, hmm... Undertale? Star Wars? Digimon? just spouting random ideas 8)

Personally, the collab should either be Pokemon related (because srsly why are you in a Pokemon forum in the first place) or some broad genre.

i don't mind the idea of a videogame collab, but i feel like there's only a small pool of 'favourite' games of 2015, so even if they'd use different images, the games would still be the same... plus i personally prefer to be an individual part of a whole, rather than being part of a sub-group (as in, for example part of the Splatoon sub-group within the Video Games whole). it's more fun when everyone represents something different, but still belongs together, i think.

so, in that sense perhaps a purely Pokemon-based collab is better. or a Nintendo-collab perhaps would be wide enough?

Pokemon with colour based on supporter tier? That's something interesting. But given it's winter in the northern hemisphere and PC is based in the US, a theme of Ice-type or white-coloured Pokemon could be a nice one. But then again, I do live in the side where the seasons are the opposite.

Yeah the staff did an ORAS collab I think? Can't remember X.x

They did do a collab relating to ORAS, but it was mainly major characters in the game, not exactly trainer classes.

How about a fav thing of 2015 collab instead then? That gives everyone plenty to choose.

Fav game, fav movie ect. Could be fun.

So, your idea is what is essentially a Year In Review collab? I am a bit concerned that someone may share too much of the same faves and that could cause issues if a thing they loved was already used by someone else.

Hika, you should be surprised at the amount of non-Homestucks that doesn't even like the mentioning of the series...

Honestly I think Homestuck should stay within its own fanbase. I think if we're doing a collab then it should be something that anyone could join. It's the only reason why the successful collabs are Pokemon themed.

How is that an issue? There's always going to be cases where people use the same character or show as someone else on the forum, collab or not.

this is exactly what i meant earlier - i personally dislike when multiple people represent the same thing in a collab, i suppose. but i mean, that's my problem of course, and i suppose i could just make sure to pick something else if anything's double-booked.

Actually, I like this idea. I think it would be cool to extend this to the entire forumbase though?

it's not a bad idea, but i worry if it'll be much of a collab at all if the topic is your favourite ''thing'' from 2015. it feels too broad to me personally, there'd barely be any unity, besides perhaps the signature layout...

i don't mean to assert my opinion too strongly or come off as a 'party-pooper', so if it gets decided that these are the best suggestions, please disregard my opinion.

Ah yes, ditch the idea. I guess we probably will have to stick with mainly Pokemon themes, since trying a different fandom won't work due to an amount of non-supporters of said fandom. This is why we usually never stray from Pokemon most of the time, since it seems to be the only safe idea.

If we cannot come up with another idea like the last thread, we might as well ditch theme collabs altogether. Remember we only had two successful collabs that weren't Pokemon, although one does have Pokemon involved in it.

The reason why many theme collabs for staff are successful is because they are a smaller, more tight-knit exclusive group whereas we are more widespread and as a result there's always going to be someone who won't like our ideas.

i actually think the year in review theme would be really cute but i agree that there wouldn't really be much unity between everyone's themes / it might feel pretty disjointed. unless someone can come up with a killer layout idk

nagi mentioned it being winter, maybe a fire and ice pokemon theme could work, for the northern hemisphere winter and southern hemisphere summer?

So, like say someone from the southern hemisphere use a Fire-type and someone from the north uses an Ice-type? I don't know, since I might be concerned some people won't be happy if someone else snaps up what they wanted.

It's just that I fear our collabs are on the decline given how bad of a failure the last thread was, because I didn't like most of the ideas and the one I did like was just too badly-timed.

Unfortunately I'm not a fan of first-come, first-serve situations and if something I wanted was taken I would likely be extremely upset and one would not to be near me when I'm feeling that way. It's probably a reason why I don't have a big interest in collabs lately.

Remember that the main thing to consider when choosing a theme is that staff are a more exclusive group and are able to easily decide better, but because we are much bigger we are more likely to be divided and that means we will have one side of fans and one side of anti-fans, and that's why we often struggle with choosing a theme.

There are so many options and ideas to choose from:
- Nature (broad enough and not restricting, there are numerous plants and animals)
- Favorite Food (from sushi, to pizza, to salad etc)

Might be bleh for some people, but it's unique and something new, isn't it?

Or we can stick with Fire-type Pokemon.~ I'm sure my Fire-type loving buddy's gonna be happy about this. -giggles-
