Earlier today, I offered to stream some movies for the supporters (and maybe eventually normal members).

So I'm here to ask what would you like me to play for you guys? Would this be something anyone would even be interested in doing?

I mostly only have horror / thriller movies (Donnie Darko is one of them) but I'm fully willing to play whatever you guys want. I might even play some games, IDK.

Give me some ideas, and I'll start planning some days to do this up.

Play games? I remember a certain game you started LP'ing months ago and left unfinished >:\

This is a brilliant idea, Igiko! I'll volunteer for streaming some too if my internet feels like working. i was meant to be streaming fight club with hiiro a couple of weeks ago lol

As for movies, idk. Maybe a poll could be added to this thread?

I love streaming videos with people, though I don't have internet sufficient to stream.

If we wanted to have supporter music nights, maybe we could make an Outloud.fm? You upload tracks to it and it streams them in a queue to people in the room. It's very simple: drag-and-drop files into the given spot on the page, and you sign in with Facebook or Twitter (and anyone can make a Twitter if you're uncomfortable signing in with your Facebook). Anyone can upload, at a maximum of 5 songs in the queue at once. Kind of like Turntable.fm, except available everywhere (afaik).

I was actually going to do this before Summer ended. I have a few movies I could possibly stream also.

We could vote if you put a poll of which movies you would stream.

Augh if only there was a video version of that place. It'd be perfect. That's not a bad idea though, we should keep it in mind |D

I'd have to make a whole other thread to add a poll. And plus, I wanna know what other people would wanna watch before I go like "LOL GAIZ THEEZ R UR OPTUNZ." This is just the "how successful do you really think this would be and would you even want to watch" thread pretty much.

Like I said I'll play anything. Just give me some names and I'll get the movie :D

We could easily build a set of "DJs" and "VJs" to offer movies and/or music in rotations around the world clocks.

Like have someone in the US timezones showing something during the evenings here, and someone in the UK timezones showing something during the evenings there and so on.
Ideally if this idea were to "Take off" we'd have one D/VJ per timezone with a fair amount of active users...or at least one for every 3 timezones...(One covering their timezone and the hour before/after) it.
But this can work with just two people operating the streams, one for East, and one for West.

Anyway this is a cool idea, especially if someone has a decent library or a number of people get together and "pool their library" so that people can vote for what they want to see. Then whoever has what the people want to see can do the stream hosting.

I hate to be a party-pooper, but won't streaming film footage across the internet bring copyright issues into play?

Slightly OT, but the first thing I though of reading this was a musical collaboration night for people to show off their own material (covers included) which not only makes it interesting, but avoids the legalities.

And looking through this thread makes me feel like a newbie with my '06 join date. lol.

Well actually I've heard the only thing they do is ask you to take your channel off. I know some people who've done it and never even had their channel taken down. But that's really the worse they can do.

And for the music from what I know outloud.fm is actually legal.

    Of course it does :|

Like Xyrin said, all they can do is take it down. On top of that, there's so many channels streaming at once that unless someone actually reports the channel, they won't investigate. I've only seen a channel be taken down once, but that's only because it was posted on 4chan to get viewers, and a wiseguy reported it out of spite.

Anyway, I guess I'll get a list of movies together, post it up, and see what everyone thinks? Also, I think synchtube actually lets you upload videos and adds it to a playlist. I'll have to make an account and check it out, but if I'm right, it'll be on synchtube instead of livestream.

Actually I think you have to have a port disabled on Synchtube. I went there once and I got an error. It could just be my router though.

I heard Synchtube was for Youtube videos.

And just so you know I'm guessing it would take a while to upload a whole movie on an average internet connection. It takes me a minute or so to upload a song.

You realize that this channel will be relatively "private" being hidden behind the PC supporter paywall right? Unless some jerk decides to report it, it won't go away or fall prey to copyright trolls. Additionally, since it is a "Private" viewing for PC members and supporters only then it falls within a reasonable definition of "Fair use" at least within US laws. Besides the MPAA has bigger fish to fry than going after streamers.

I myself am actually pretty fond of the idea (Even though I'm not big on horror/thriller movies. My paranoia/overactive imagination tends to take me for a joy ride with those things...)

I wouldn't be able to stream myself, mind you, but I would probably pop on from time to time to see if anything is happening there.

Judging from the reactions thus far, I do think that this one would get a bit more backing. A lot of people seem to be pretty happy/excited for it. I love the idea, and I think it will work. But then, that is just me. XD

This is a great idea, I for one love livestreams and I'd love to come to a supporter livestream, I support Kylie's idea for music sharing, as well.

I don't have qualms with the idea, I'm just curious as to who would regularly come to the channel. The past record with supporter-based events isn't exactly supportive of an event such as this.
    Just saying.

It really shouldn't matter who comes, as we can't effectively tell someone they can't come in fear that they'll ruin the event.

I wasn't going to make it an annual thing or whatever. Just like once a month, whenever I feel like it, if even that. And I'll give like a week's notice before I do it so people who really want to come can plan on it.

My thing is figuring a good time to do it, since we have a bunch of Australian supporters. Time zones and such.

Well I can help out with streaming from time to time, I do this sort of stuff daily. I'm in GMT+0 (Current London time) so I'll be in the middle of timezones, meaning I could possibly host at a good time for most people. If you ever require additional assistance that is. Otherwise, I'd be happy to join in and watch, I think it's a great idea.

I should've phrased that better. I meant that as in who would regularly come and provide activity, who would consistently keep the place alive. Idk.
I don't think we're worried about how "alive" it will be. It never really is an issue with PC events like this if it's put on at the right time. I hosted movie nights last year for PC and each time we got lots of people joining and there was never an issue really. I doubt this time would be any different. And if you're worried about the same groups of people always talking, let them. We don't really have any big issues with cliques on PC these days anyway.
