Supporter Name Change Event?

    I completely understand that name changes bog down PC's server, but I was thinking maybe letting higher supporters(or all supporters, i d e k) have the option of changing their names?

    It might add to the supporter count or convince supporters who have already supported to support more? I'm not sure how in need the community is for supporter help, but I know I'd like to change my name, and I kinda thought this might be a goodish idea?

    I'm sure the idea's already been brought up, and if it was, I missed it hhhhha. Just a thought :)
     
    It's still the same thing, it puts a strain on our server.
     
    I'd love for this too happen. Like I said in the "Would you pay for name changes thread" I'd be content with spending the extra $25 for a name change if that were to happen. Here's hoping one day it does, but I got a feeling it will be a no.
     
    This is probably your number one way to get name changes.

    Get you and a whole bunch of other people who want name changes > All donate to tier 6 > Keep donating and adding more people until we get enough money to get a way better server. That's your best bet if you want it now. Personally even though I'm not agreeing with his tactics of telling you I agree with what he's trying to say. Not how he's saying it though, we do have enough stuff already and we shouldn't risk DB-ing the server because you want a petty name change.

    As much as I want name changes back under certain circumstances, I agree with Harlequin. We have enough perks.

    :/ I think that they should just allow people to make new accounts and have their supporter status transferred over.

    That would be helpful, but it would be better to just get them to donate again. That way there isn't a hassle about switching stuff, plus it betters the community. Of course, this isn't a very viable option because most people can't be bothered donating AGAIN, but idk I'm just bringing up a point.

    Pretty sure you guys could always get a VIP forum name change, though!

    I'm not just PC's Senior Crank for nothin!

    I would support it if it required additional donation and the name changes were performed at a later date during a scheduled downtime. (You know where they announce "OK we're going to be down on __ day from __am to __pm")

    Allowing supporter status transfer, would be nice. This should especially be granted to those who have donated up to say...tier 3, which is beyond what I'd call a trivial donation.

    I don't want one, but it might be a good idea to allow it for 6th tier supporters. It might actually inspire some people to donate more; thus benefiting the upkeep of the server while allowing a very small number of supporters to change their name.

    But obviously, if it ended up that there was a lot of 6th tier supporters the offer could be retracted in time. Just my thoughts.
     
    Honestly, what Abegnation suggests sounds cool to me, especially if they arrange an off-peak/down time to perform the name changes for the few who can. (To avoid derping the DBs)

    I will say requiring Tier 6 might be a little bit overkill, however you might could lure the T5s who have totals of like $40 or higher into it. You could even say "Donate $25 more and get name change if you're not already Tier 6. (Which would have 3 freebies)" Basically that would give a name change for every $25 you go over T5. Of course that offer need only apply to T5 members. You'd NEED T5 in order to buy into a name change by making another $25 donation, thus widening the audience some and allowing more to give another once-off donation towards T6 and still allowing the name change. If they spend all their name changes and make it to T6, well they're just out of name changes unless T6 is given unlimited NCs.

    Additionally, I think if someone has a crapload of VMs and junk they could be asked to clean those out when changing names so that the change doesn't put excessive load on the server. :p

    Well I think it should really be limited to tier 6, if it was ever to be done. Because there is actually a lot of members who have donated over $40.
