I tend to ignore live action adaptations of manga because of the awful standard of modern Japanese acting. Of course I've seen some half decent ones though, like Kaiji and Battle Royale. Yes I know BR is pretty bad but I was an impressionable teen when I first saw it.

This GITS though, not sure. I haven't even seen this recent ova or series yet.

Well, I'm hoping we can count on Scarlett Johansson to deliver some great acting as Makoto, at least, and a lot of the rest of the cast isn't Japanese either (that's garnered its own set of complaints though :/).

She's certainly not an unattractive woman, for what that's worth. But I do worry that she was just typecast due to Black Widow fame. BW and the Major are... not so similar.

Still, the success of this film is likely to affect the number of western feature film anime adaptations in the future. It's a potential goldmine for Hollywood, and one that they desperately need, but they need to pull the marketing off very, very well.

I believe they did, in that opening sequence. But the chances of it happening in the live action movie are so ridiculously slim the only way you'll get to post about purple pubes is if you're talking about the lack of them.

I don't object to Johansson playing Motoko, because I honestly never envisioned Motoko as looking Japanese...I mean, cyborg bodies. Ethnicity wouldn't necessarily be a thing. I just have zero faith that Hollywood can handle a Japanese franchise properly.

There was quite possibly pubes in the original manga. It's been a while so I can't confirm this for you.

My problem with her is that she's, in a traditional sense, a bit pretty to be the major. Was always going to happen with a Hollywood remake though.

Being pretty isn't really all that relevant...cyborg body, remember? You can be as pretty or ugly as you want to be.

You think? Considering her track record, I dunno how much that alone would be enough to type cast her. Especially since her character was known far more for being attractive than anything functional.

My friend told me Trump's wife was a porn star. Not quite sure what to make of that.

If anyone here has watched/is watching Bleach, you may be the only one who could understand my current state of mind.
