This team honestly started off as a joke, with me wanting to try out Roserade as a lead (not really to prove its success, really, I was trying to insult it and see if it really did suck). Unfortunately (?), my opinion of Roserade completely changed once this team was constructed. I was amazed to see how effective it really was in the metagame now, and the fact that most leads are running Lum Berry (Heatran, Metagross, etc...) just to cope with this thing simply shows me, and everyone else, how great Roserade really is. Dark_Azelf gave me immense help with this team as well, mentoring and watching over it (as well as losing to it multiple times due to hax =D). We revised it a few times, and pretty soon, starting laddering with it on PokeBeach. Currently, this team is undefeated for me in around 30 matches on the server, as well as getting me to #1 on the account Meteor, #3 on KT, and #29 on KingOfKinglers. Dark_Azelf also has had great success with this team, and currently holds the number 1 spot on the Pokebeach ladder. If this isn't a testament to how effective this team is, then maybe you'll care to Rate out Team~

Note to Raters: Please do not reccomend stuff that you know will mess this team's synergy up. Suggestion a Porygon2 will obviously mess things up, and reccomending a Blissey would be equally foolish. We are looking for rates, but please back your reasoning up. Oh yeah, Blue is Bedlam Beldum, and Green is Dark_Azelf

Perhaps the most effective way to support Empoleon is to ensure bulky Waters such as Vaporeon and Suicune are put out of commission. Toxic Spikes can do just that, as once poisoned, these two aquatic beasts are running on borrowed time. It's no wonder why Roserade was chosen to lead this team; it's the best Toxic Spiker in OU. With access to a reliable Sleep inducing move, Base 140 STAB move, and Natural Cure Roserade can pretty much transform into one of the most reliable leads in today's metagame. Against slower leads such as Metagross, Sleep Powder can incapitate them, preventing them from ever fulfilling their purpose of setting up Stealth Rock. Things like Smeargle are essentially useless against Roserade, as it possesses the faster sleep and will be stopping it from ever getting entry hazards onto the field. Faster leads such as Aerodactyl and Azelf can indeed be troublesome, although this team does have the tools to stop them. Overall, when it come to supporting this team, Roserade is easily the most key member. The sheer fact that without it, bulky Waters would run through this team is enough to make its spot on this team non-negotiable, that's for sure. Let's be honest, do we really want to see Tentacruel or even Venomoth in this spot? Definately not, nearly all of this team's success is due to this sensual rosebud right here.
Usually id be all like "lol nub t-spikes, half the metagame is immune". Yes whilst this is true one cannot dent how effective they are in an Empoleon sweep, crippling its main counters as they are nearly all at risk from Toxic Spikes. Regardless Roserade has outperformed my expectations as a lead, mainly because of how effective sleep leads are these days. Leaf Storm is the next selling point, it smacks around alot HARD coming off its excellent base 125 sp.att. Lastly to round off the set Hidden Power Ground is chosen >> Hidden Power Fire to A. Win the speed tie against foe HP Fire Roserade as they drop a speed point to use hp fire and B. To hit Ape, Heatran etc and other things that are more of a threat to this team that Skarm, Forry, Scizor, Zong are. Overall Roserade has been surprizingly very effective.

Most of Empoleon's counters and checks focus on Special Defense, such as Blissey, Latias, and even those that invest in Defense (Vaporeon, Celebi) will be hard-pressed to survive powerful physical assaults. In order to fully remove Empoleon's counters, Pursuit is obviously one of the most key moves to implement. What better a Pokemon to use for Pursuit than Tyranitar? Or more specifically, Choice Band Tyranitar. Sporting a massive 604 Attack stat coupled with a STAB Stone Edge and Crunch as well as Pursuit for catching fleeing special walls. Generally, Tyranitar is able to single-handedly break down an opponent's defenses with its dominating physical force, as even common stall members used to fill the role of a physical wall can be 2HKOed (Hippowdon, Skarmory, Forretres...the list goes on). Tyranitar's Sandstorm is a curse and blessing, while it does hurt a few members of this team, it also boosts his Special Defense to obscene levels, letting him check things like Latias and Rotom as well as stomach hits from the likes of Starmie and Celebi to ensure they do not come back to haunt Empoleon. Sandstorm is also a secondary form of residual damage, and can compliment Toxic Spikes and Stealth Rock, giving things like Infernape and offensive Suicune less time than they're used to in order to sweep.
Along with T-Spikes and SR this is our other means of crippling counters for Empoleon aswell as being just a monster and imo one of if not THE best Choice Bander this gen. Firstly, sandstorm auto negates Leftovers of anything non immune which is part one of the puzzle. The second part of that puzzle is Pursuit, using this we remove some of Empoleons biggest counters Latias, Snorlax, Blissey all are at risk from this move and if T-Spikes are up they WILL switch so cant stay in as if they to outstall Pursuit Toxic just gets them anyway lol. Crunch and Stone Edge are the famed dual STAB moves this big dinosaur is famous for and rip apart anything, even reisted hurts like hell (ive found Stone Edge does around 45% to max HP Machamp which is scary). Aqua Tail eliminates bulky ground types, incase you havent noticed this team doesnt like EQ's that much so hitting them really helps.

Rotom-w really holds this team together, checking things like Swords Dance Lucario as well as Agility Metagross and even Calm Mind Suicune. Thanks to its amazing typing, Rotom-w can come in on most of these threats directly and threaten to 2HKO (or OHKO in some cases) with its attacks. Normally, on a Toxic Spikes abuse team, Substitute Rotom would be more common, and while it does have its perks, Choice Specs gives Rotom the power necessary to real make those Latias or Heatran regret switching-in. Thunderbolt and Shadow Ball offer decent enough coverage, and can certainly surprise switch-ins not expecting a powerful Thunderbolt or Shadow Ball coming from a respectable 463 Special Attack. Hydro Pump is also the main reason Rotom-w was chosen, as without it, we would be unable to cover Heatran and Tyranitar in one without relying on Hidden Power Fighting, which is arguably less effective than Hydro Pump due to its lower base power. Trick is one of the main reasons Choice Specs was given to Rotom, as without it the likes of Blissey could disrupt us. Trick also can cripple one of a stall team's key members, making it all the more easy to take them out in the long run. It may seem odd, but Rotom sometimes ending games more effectively than Empoleon could, though it can definately support the armored penguin by killing Celebi, Latias, and every bulky Water that comes to mind.
When i suggested this it was honestly a joke and just something to block spin, fighting and ground attacks. Man was i wrong about how i thought this guy would perform, it has simple been amazing. Really if you havent already, i highly suggest you use this guy nothing this side of Blissey who is decimated by Trick and a few other very sp.def pokes can switch in without losing amazing amounts of health. Thunderbolt and Shadow Ball for STAB and have awesome neutral coverage which is ALWAYS something you should consider on Choice users. Neutral hits are >> super effective ones on choice pokes, this way you dont have to predict and can deal mass amounts of damage to anything wanting to come in. Hydro Pump 2hko's even max hp / max sp.def Careful Tyranitar with SR up (even in SS) which shows you just how damn powerful this guy is. We chose this over the other Rotoms as it was the least Pursuit bait as a choice user. Just a note on Trick, this also helps cripple some of Empoleons counters mainly but not limited to Blissey and Snorlax. Definately an mvp for me.

Heatran is easily one of the most effective bulky Water, Latias, and Blissey lures in the game. When constructing this team, it was obvious the mentioned Pokemon were going to be troublesome since they pretty much stopped Empoleon's sweep if they focused on Special Defense. Thanks to Explosion and the Hasty nature, Explosion can KO the likes of Blissey and Latias and pretty much cripple all the bulky Waters, especially those that do not invest in Special Defense. However, the major problem would be ensuring they die, since it takes near perfect prediction to expect a bulky Water to come in and to use Explosion. So how could I find a way to eliminate these threats soundly without incident? With Magma Storm of course! "Trap Tran" is ridiculously effective, being able to pretty much guarantee an opponent's Blissey or Latias dies. Since Heatran will be setting up rocks and hitting stuff with Life Orb boosted hits anyway, we might as well abuse the best move in the game; Explosion. When Heatran's not trapping and killing Latias and Blissey, it's stopping Scizor, and sometimes bluffing Scarftran (allowing us to prevent early game Lucario and even Infernape sweeps). Earth Power helps against opposing Heatran, and can 2HKO Tyranitar switching-in on Toxic Spikes. It also takes Tentacruel out in two hits, a huge threat to Empoleon down without the need to Explode. The best part of Trap Tran is that it doesn't sacrifice power to be effective, since Magma Storm still holds a very respectable 120 Base Power! The accuracy may be off-putting, but Heatran can sometimes afford to miss; it can trap later in the game due to its excellent bulk.
Meet Trap Tran. Magma Storm should be on the analysis on smogon imo because its such a good move and Heatran really has been so good for us, he is an awesome lure to bulky waters and anything really. Using Heatran's many resistances and unpredectability early game (Is it scarf, specs, sub, lure or even Torment?) it can set up the Rocks (which is our second layer of resisual damage) really easily, especially on junk like Scizor. If Blissey or a Bulky water switches in we Magma Storm (which may i remind you has base 120 power) they are trapped and we just simply set up rocks or just blow the hell up on them which often clears a path for something to sweep, depending on the situation. Earth Power for coverage pretty much and stops that punk Infernape/other tran from switching in, although i guess Dragon Pulse could work since this is one of our Outrage resists and we dont want Empoleon crippled from that crap so eh.

Here it is, the penguin that this team was based around. SubPetaya Empoleon is perhaps the most fearsome sweeper in OU, and is easily the most powerful Water-type in OU in the long run. Many people shy away from it due to the fact that you only get one chance to sweep with it, but honestly, with the right support (which this team definately gives), that one time can be the only time you need to decimate your opponents. It's simple to set this guy up, as the abundance of Scizor spamming Bullet Punch pretty much guarantee we get a Substitute and Agility up. Once we use Agility, our Speed is over 400, and with a Petaya Berry, Empoleon's Special Attack skyrockets to 529, which is further boosted by Torrent. With all these boosts, Empoleon becomes a nigh impossible sweeper to wall and stop, especially when you consider Surf can even 2HKO resistances such as Starmie and OHKO the likes of Bronzong and Swampert. Empoleon's typing also grants it a 4x resistence to Bullet Punch, meaning people who rely on Scizor to revenge kill Empoleon will be surprised when they fail to KO us even at 25% health. Essentially, Toxic Spikes, Pursuit, Explosion, and Trick all lead to this guy's end game sweep, and sometimes, none of the above are necessary, as most offensive teams have trouble with a +2 Speed Empoleon, regardless of Petaya boost. This guy has saved my ass more times than I can count, and believe me, I'm pretty good at math.
The star of the team. An absolute terror for those who dont have a solid special wall and even then with T-Spikes up it beats non S-Toss Blissey 100% of the time. Really only other bulky water stop this guy from sweeping (which are eliminated by T-Spikes) and scarfers, which is why i try and sqeeze two Agilitys in more often than not these days, being resistant to ALL priority bar the very rare Mach Punch and V-Wave this thing sweeps even better. Also even when subbing down to 25% to activate torrent and petaya, priority STILL doesnt ko this thing, sub also protects Empleon from crippling status. Surf is for STAB and with a Torrent and a Petaya Boost it hurts, and alot, not really alot can stand up to it period even when resisted. Ice Beam has alot better coverage than Grass Knot does and hits more generally more foes being only resisted by other water types when used in conjunction with Surf makes it more appealing.

Scarf Flygon covers up a lot of holes in this team, most notably a massive Gyarados, Salamence, and Mixed Infernape weakness. This slot used to be occupied by a Choice Scarf Jirachi, and while it did perform excellently, I personally felt the need to incorporate a secondary Electric resist (immunity in this case) and a more reliable check to Infernape. Flygon is built to be a Choice Scarf user, thanks to Thunder Wave immunity, resistence to every entry hazard known to man, and a fast U-turn for early game, powerful Earthquake for mid game, and the ever popular Outrage for late-game, where most things have been weakened. Flygon also stops AgiliGross and enemy AgiliPoleon even after their +2 boost, something Jirachi was unable to do. Generally, I U-turn out of pretty much everything early in the game, though if I predict them staying in I will be glad to use Earthquake on those smart-aleck Heatran who think they can resist U-turn and Fire Blast my team. Fire Blast is there mainly for Skarmory and Forretress, but also helps against Steel-types if I don't want to give the likes of Gengar or Azelf a free switch-in. Overall, Flygon is the glue and last minute sweeper just in case Empoleon's sweep doesn't go according to plan. It's the pivot point of this team, and keeps momentum, which is the most important part of any battle.
This used to be a Scarf Jirachi untill we (mainly me lol!) had to rely on Iron Head flinch hax to beat several apes. XD Basically fits into the team well having another EQ immunity helps also. However the more and more i look at this team and through some testing, granted it sucks, but Scarf Salamence seems to work work too to help with Lucario (the set i have been trying is Outrage/Draco/EQ/F-Blast) whilst still maintaining us another EQ immunity aswell as a fighting resist but we will keep Flygon untill we decide lol. Anyways Flygons job is a revenge killer and a scouter and he does that pretty well i must say. I dont like fire Blast on Scarf Flygon since it doesnt harm the things he is meant to be revenge killing and just leaves us open to Gyarados and not like this team fears Zong/Skarm anyways so i would definately use Stone Edge or T-Punch in that slot, besides steels will be coming in on U-Turns which = free tran switch in so idk. Tl;Dr we threw this in to cover our metagame weak and it acts as an insurance policy vs some threats. =P
