kind of leap frogging off of mervyn797's what is ash were replaced thread, if ash were to be replaced what do you think team rockets new "challenge" be? Also why only go after ashs pikachu? they've seen alot of pokemon cream pikachu in battle yet dont go after them...

If Ash goes, then it's probable that Team Rocket goes too. They're around for comedic relief and Ash's Pikachu; two things that can easily be exchanged with new villains. I will admit though, Team Rocket not being the main "convicts" that causes trouble for the show's protagonist would be a bit different.

...then again, the show would be all around different if Ash wasn't to lead it anymore either.

I wouldn't mind Team Rocket gone for someone new though. Perhaps if they fail with their important mission in Isshu and disappoint Giovanni [again], then he may fire them all from the Team Rocket organization. Leaving them with no job, but to go their own individual ways. If this were to happen though, then question remains on what will happen to Ash, and whether or not Jessie, James, and Meowth will continue to pursue catching Pikachu so they can restore their place in Team Rocket.

    I think I'm just blathering at the end though. XD;

if they are fired and go their own way it could lead to a spin-off series...

The Rocket Gang seems more, Professional than the other seasons. Im just saying.

True, Team Rocket got a new look and attitude for Best wishes, which makes me think that there not longer here for comedy, that they actually have a better goal.

And they go after Pikachu all the time because they think they can defeat Ash but they can't,
    Spoiler:

Seriously, I never understood why Team Rocket wanted Pikachu, there are over 9000 Pikachus on Earth, why that one in particular, what's so special about Ash's Pikachu that distinguises him from other Pikachus, NOTHING, that's what, he's just another Pikachu, nothing special about him at all.....

As far as I can remember, it's because Ash charged him up with a bike and be blew up Viridian City Pokemon Center xD

I think it was in the first ever episode, Team Rocket say that Ash's Pikachu is incredibly strong and different from other Pikachu. They never really elaborate on that in the episodes.. but I think that it's a rather temperamental Pikachu, who, when pushed to the limit at least, gets insane amounts of power, whereas when it's placid and relaxed, it's power level is much lower.

Knowing how Giovanni mistreated Mewtwo, it certainly wouldn't be hard to push this Pikachu to the limit with his skills, and then BAM, harness that power.

Though I'm not sure whether Giovanni actually knows about Ash and Pikachu in detail, I'd assume he knows more about the powerful trainers of Kanto than they know of him.

I think at first the TRio were legitimately like "HEY, WE SHOULD GET THIS AND THE BOSS WILL LOVE US" but as time went on, defeat after defeat, it got to the point where they had to capture Pikachu so they'd feel as if they actually had a purpose again. Where they once found purpose with Biker Gangs, and eventually Team Rocket, in their eyes, somehow the only way to solve all their problems (that they constantly run from) was to capture the "Pikachu on the Pedestal"

I think all Team Rocket needed was some confidence boosting and some self-esteem, myself. They seem to kick ass when they are insanely confident.

In Best Wishes, they've had just that. Giovanni says he has a "special task" for them, sends them to a new region, and they're getting daily Mission Briefings!

They feel like all their hard work has paid off, that they're finally getting somewhere, so they naturally perform better.

Now, Ash... he hasn't really worked all too hard. He's had it relatively easy. He hasn't come from a crappy family background, hasn't been an outcast, and since early in his journey, he's always had someone to cook for him just like his "Mom" used to. He's had it EASY! So I guess that's why he regularly performs kinda crappily in every region, because he's confident he'll just win because he's supposed to win.

If the Team Rocket trio of Jessie, James and Meowth were to stay behind, they'd probably focus their attention away from Pikachu and go after the main protagonist's Pokemon after seeing its power in battle.

^Gasp!if they would replace ash what pokemon would replace pikachu. whos as funny, good at imations and cute enough for the job??

The Rocket Trio would be unemployed and recession would hit the Pokemon World.

I never though of something like this before, so it took me a while to figure out a reply. XD

The Rocket Trio have never been able to steal any Pokemon, leave apart Ash's Pikachu. If Ash left, then most probably The Rocket Trio will be chasing yet another random trainer with absolutely no chance of stealing a single any Pokemon.

Team Rocket managed to steal another pokemon and that is Jessie's Yanmega. When the boy was about to throw a pokeball on Yanma , they appeared out of nowhere and caught it instead. Although they did not steal it , they stole the capture and that's the same :P

It wouldn't be much of a different because of BW.
They already have a new motive. Plus it doesn't really have anything to do with Ash either, they just keep bumping into him in BW.

Well, the new motive sounds very promising. The only thing I have gripes about is that they took this long to actually do this. Maybe if they did it way back in Hoenn, it actually would have made Team Rocket that necessary, and thus also make Takeshi Shudo's reason for keeping them over Misty that much more reasonable, or at least understandable.

Yeah. Team Rocket, at its current status, is just going to be there as long as Ash stays. I'm pretty sure Ash isn't going anywhere (as he hasn't aged at all), so Team Rocket's gonna be here to stay for a... couple of years. Just a couple.

If I were handling things, then if I were to say that Team Rocket was absolutely necessary for Pokemon, then I'd either change them in Hoenn to be very serious bad guys and not comic relief characters, or at least not just that, or I'd remove them altogether due to none of the other writers willing to change them to be serious threats.

I have just watched some of the bw episodes and they are alot more serisus from what i saw. when i was watching them i relized pokemon didnt have a serisus threat to the world. We all knew galatic wouldn't get away with destroying the world 0-0 but team rocket has actually KILLED pokemon (according to b/g/r/fr/lg the marrowack)

Technically, Team Galactic was implied to have killed a pokemon (A cueball named Kirby mentioned that his pokemon were taken by Galactic, and he implies that they were killed when the player encounters him). However, Team Rocket actually did kill Pokemon, and it is implied to be willful. In fact, Giovanni once threatened Mewtwo that if he didn't rejoin, he will kill the pokemon on the island via experiments.
