In B2/W2 you may have noticed that there was definitely an aquatic theme. The Striaton's gym typings were all gone except for one - Water. The protagonists? Looked like they had wet suits. Team Plasma? Even flew around on a ship! There were more than these, such as the Marine Tube and so on, but these come to mind first. What do you think was the reasoning for this water theme? Did you like that it was so centralised on the water? Do you think it made the games more interesting? Would've you liked to see more references to water? If so how could've they been included? Share your thoughts xoxo

Hard to say. Maybe it's a hint or something about Gen 6?

Or maybe they just wanted the B2/W2 story arc to just be unique. It's strange but it works.

Well since the world is covered in 70% water(not sure about the poke world but w/e) its no surprise that you'd see some centralization towards water. What i initially thought that it was a hint to R/S remake because Hoenn had the most water routes but sadly I guess it wasn't.

    Hoenn confirmed

Another thing for the Aquatic theme is how it's centered around Kyurem, who is an Ice type, which is also associated with water. It believe they're trying to make up for the lack of good Water types in BW1 (Samurott, Carracosta, and Jellicent being the only good ones in Unova).

I have to say this was one of the more interesting things about Black 2 and White 2, it made the story have a unique feel to it, the presence of the Marine Tube, Humilau City having houses on water, the Plasma Frigate, Nate and Rosa wearing wetsuits under their clothes and the watery feel of Reversal Mountain in Black 2 made me think there was Ruby & Sapphire remakes coming at first.

However, even though the remakes never happened it was still kinda fun how they focused on water a lot.

Water is crucial for life but it can also be a great taker of life. For example, if we look at the Tsunami in March 2011 in Japan.
Now I'm not saying this has caused the Japanese producers of Black and White 2 to focus more on water but it could be that they just wanted to show the extent of influence and/or impact water can have on an environment, in this case Unova, as it has frequently shown in our world throughout the ages.
Now the influence of water depicted by the producers in Black and White 2 is mainly positive. I feel they could have added a bit more of negative impacts of water on the environment, why not even a town hit by a tsunami, as that would have given it a more realistic and even relevant feel.
But I quite enjoyed the positive depictions of water in Black and White 2 as a mode of transportation for the ship of Team Plasma, or the Marine Tube where you can see the underwater world. Great stuff.
