25731. I think it's because he wanted to portray the dangerous aspects of humanity post-1600 through use of darker hues and vivid colour on canvas, they were certainly dark times indeed. :x
 
His main idea was making people know and understand the Catholic religion. Using that kind of contrasts, he helped people noticing it. Although your views are correct- he lived in the darkest zones of Rome, and was murdered after killing the Pope's nephew in a duel.

lawl... I went ages without posting in TCTI and survived. (How many weeks, three? Thanks to scythemaster and in january - feb sometime was about a month too)
