Contrary to what most of us think, this fruit was not named for its color.

38466.

Well duh, they didn't name an apple after it's color. Apple isn't a color. XD Why would they name an Orange after it's color?

38467

Instead, the word orange comes from a transliteration of the sanskrit naranga. Which comes from the Tamil naru. Which means "fragrant."

38467. They should call apples "reds" or "greens". :D

38470

There are three basic types of orange -- sweet, loose-skinned and bitter.

38471.

So I'm assuming you're going to have a plum as your theme tomorrow?

38474

IE's so... slow!

Stupid firefox... D:

And I'm going people :D

38475.

Plums are fine. They're just not as tasty as watermelon. X3
I'll be looking forward, BB. XD

38476

Have fun, Nica!

Sweet oranges are prized both for eating and for their juice.

38478

Watermelons are the day after plums, TT. ;D

They're generally large and have skins that are more difficult to remove than their loose-skinned relatives.

38479.

Whee! Watermelon day is in two days! XD *smiles and jumps for joy*

38480

Among the more popular sweet oranges are the seedless navel, the juicy, coarse-grained valencia and the thin-skinned, red-fleshed blood orange. Sweet oranges are better eaten fresh than cooked. Loose-skinned oranges are so named because their skins easily slip off the fruit.

I'm not reading your posts anymore BB, I'm just waiting for something to come up to make conversation about. XD
