It's nice, but again we've got the issue here whereby the head appears to be the largest and most prominent aspect of the sketch, and the body feels like it's just been pasted there and doesn't really fit.

It's all to do with how big the head is, it makes the body look quite miniscule—and that's the sort of thing you really need to look out for.

In a manga and anime environment, big heads on girls aren't actually an unusual thing, but it's the sort of thing that puts a lot of people off because the anatomy attached to these girls are usually quite small and thin, which makes the entire frame of the character look noticeably unbalanced.

So what I'd advise is to look at the mass of the head and try shrinking it a bit to see if it'll fit in better with the body. I wouldn't try doing it vice versa because you may be increasing the width of the body, and if you have the patience to work around that in the line art...then good on you.

Annnd shrunken I have done. This proportion thing, still getting the hang of it haha.

Spoiler:

The body I'm not fussed with, I can work on that later with the lineart and stuff.

smiley face went away :(((

I really should delete certain songs tbh. :x

Now that looks much better, and like I said...you really ought to keep that in mind.

If there's any opportunity to check how well the anatomy connects together, just analyze your sketch and try fiddling with it.

When you compare what you just did with your other screenshot, you'd notice a difference.

I'm not really in the mood to smile, maybe that's why I drew her like that.. XD More like serious mode.

And yeah, although it's kinda hard for myself to point out what's wrong for some reason. Simmone was helping me earlier though. I guess because I kinda just want to throw my ideas on my drawing before I end up forgetting it, so I don't take note on what looks weird and what not.

I guess I'll just have to keep showing and be all like "Is this right? Is this right?" Until it finally sinks into my brain and I can tell the flaws all by my itty bitty self. XD

Haha, there's nothing wrong with getting a second opinion.

The fact is that we're not perfect at drawing! There's a learning curve at every corner, and it's easy for an artist to miss something completely and it's helpful for someone to have a look and give them a pointer or two.

I shall draw with my wonderful skills to show this thread.

It's a drawing of PC's PO server! Subliminally advertising for it to no longer be dead :((

207467.

Well thanks for the help, much appreciate it. :)

..What is that, a paper or something? XD

..Oh, freaking lag. XD

Ahhh well, it's way past my bedtime, I should have been asleep hours ago, just got carried away drawing. XD; Although lack of sleep isn't going to do me much good, considering nowdays haha.

207468.

No problem, if you like...I can add you back to MSN if you ever want anymore help with any drawings, I wouldn't mind doing that for you at all.

Anyway, sleep well!

Hmmm I want time to rush by.

Let us think. Think indeed.

October = uni assignments.
>>> Look forward to holidays.

November = await the one exam.
>>> Look forward to Christmas.

December = awaiting Christmas & MOTY stuffs probably, summing up best year ever (oh God nearly over)
>>> ...nothing to look forward to fml.

January = hopefully have a licence by then and aka learn to drive then or somethinggg.
>>> look forward to nothing.

February = preparing for uni next month, maybe work experience?
>>> look forward to... uni & EASTER MAYBE.

March = Uni! Distractionss..
>>> look forward to April aka APRIL FOOLS & BDAY though mostly former.

April = More uni etc
>>> looking forward to holidays

May = bad bad bad, going to miss past
>>> looking forward to holidays still

June = etc etc :((
>>> looking forward to AUGUST so that one year

July = probably gunna be worst
>>> continue looking forward to august

August = COUNTING DOWN
>>> one year is totally short, looking forward to 12 months.

September = Preparing for end of uni etc
>>> probably gunna be paranoid of future

October = still preparing for end
>>> idk

I don't know what'll happen beyond October 2012, I really don't know what the future holds, which makes it harder for me. I like having things to look forward to since time goes by faster... :(

Um, yeah sure, that would be pretty swell. :o

Finally a day off, or at least half a day. I'm pooped after working for 2 and a half weeks straight. =3=;

I started the Drawover/Paintover thread in the art section for that very reason. It's sad that I'm the only one there at the moment doing redlines because there is a lot of talent at PC that can notice some things that other artists can't.. and it helps them improve a lot.

So Aizuke, you're always welcome to post there. And if Signomi is helping you out then she can post her redlined version there too. If you're willing to show it publicly, that is.. then I think it would be lovely to share to the community that artists aren't afraid of helpful critiques.

Anyays, Aizuke, I think that that is a very lovely drawing, though you may not want to crop it directly at the wrists.. if you crop at the joints it often isn't as flattering than if you crop at another point. Though the actual drawing itself is very well done :3 and the dress is super cute. Keep up the good work!!

Ha, weird, pretty sure I saw this thread locked and I couldn't reply to it..

But thanks Kura, I'll keep that in mind. I was thinking about the arm placement too, and I'll definately make a few changes to it.

It was.
And yeah, the arm placement is sometimes actually dictated by the hand.. because the hands actually dictate more emotion than the body may.
Like for yours.. you could have her hand flicked outward, holding her skirt all girly, like. Though you wouldn't be able to use that arm to place her hand on her hip- this is a pretty common mistake.

Let me explain.. let's say you're standing with your weight on one leg. The leg that has the weight on it is the part of the hip that is pushed out and tilted up. When you're standing this way (also known as controposto) your shoulders counterbalance, and it is much more natural to place your hand on the hip that is out than the other way.
(If you have both hands on the hips it doesn't really matter.)

But just to show you.. try it yourself. Stand with your weight on one leg, and you'll notice that that's the leg your hip sticks out on. Then try putting either hand on your hip and feel what seems more natural you know?

So yeah anyways.. if you're gonna do it like that.. straighten the arm that's bent at the moment, and use the other arm to do the "hand on hips" pose.

Either way just experiment :33 If you need a hand there's always Signomi and the Drawover thread to help <33

What Kura said just now in her post is very interesting and is another thing an artist should have in mind when they sketch any form of anatomy - just how the body contracts when a part of it is moved outwards, and so on.

I've noticed that whenever I wanted to draw dynamic poses, I...as odd as it may sound, try and act out the pose myself while looking at the mirror.

At times the pose will require me to put my leg forward, or to kneel on one leg...sometimes I even twist my hips and angle my body in a way that would give me a better idea of how to relay perspective.

My mum will sometimes come in the room and give me a smack round the earhole when she sees what I'm doing, but I am serious when I say to her that our own bodies are the best mannequins when it comes to preparing a pose for a study. I dunno, she still thinks I'm a bit loopy but that won't stop me from doing it. XD

My point is that the look and...most importantly, the feel of one's bodily movement trying to reenact a pose can give them a very broad idea of how they would want to draw it out.

The kind of tension they feel on any part they put their weight on is how the character will feel, the way you twist your body and even bend over or stretch is a kind of stress and movement that the character will most certainly feel. You've got to make sure that they feel the way you do when you're trying out these poses, and that's the sort of thing that should be presented by the way you draw them.

I must confess that I didn't even know about the Drawover thread until now, it's not often I look in the Art Gallery and I seem to skim past stickies, but I'll definitely give it a browse.
