When the Main character dies (a main character dies all the time, yes), there are a few things that goes on afterwards.

1) They come back as a ghost
2) The manga/anime/whatever ends
3) insert some other reason here, but the Main Character is still in the manga/anime/whatever.

There are very very few exceptions.
