Three. First was Phantasia. Then it was the 'prequel' to Phantasia, Symphonia. Then there is the Sequel. She isn't actually in it, but she's mentioned like Mithos, and she's the tree's Spirit (as seen in Phantasia) sooo.

I still cannot see Symphonia as Phantasia's prequel unless the four Seraphim were around before Phantasia, which I can kind of understand.

That's... too bad, really, because Symphonia was made to be a 'distant prequel' to Phantasia. But why can you not see it as the prequel?

Well, I haven't been in the "present" in Phantasia for too long, but the "technology" in Symphonia seems way more advanced. Especially the whole "Humans into Expsheres" thing. And the Desian buildings. Just. High-tech.

IT TAKES PLACE ON A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PLANET. YEAH.

The reason for the 'technology' to be more advanced in Symphonia than Phantasia can be easily explained. Due to how much Mana MagiTechonology takes, I would assume that using it wasn't allowed after the worlds were reunited. However, if I remember correctly, there are still remains on MagiTechnology in Phantasia.

As for the Different planets, when the world became one it was eventually renamed to Aselia, which is the name of the world in Phantasia.

Nope, only Symphonia (at the veeeeeeery end. XD;) Symphonia II, and Phantasia. I would assume that they called it that because Phantasia was the first Tales of Game. Tales of the Abyss is on Auldrant, and I don't know about the others.
