Final Fantasy discussion? Went has found out about XIII-2?
...
*cracks knuckles*
LET'S DO THIS!!!

Jumping on board of the discussion for RPGs (specifically FF), I have to clarify a few things. First off, I have to admit I have not played and beaten all FF games. Kudos to anyone who has.
Now, to really begin. If you like turn-based games, FF is definitely the way to go. Even XII and XIII share some level of TBS systems. However, each gen of games has introduced tweaks to the system, with (in my opinion) XII being the most real-time RPG of the series so far of the main games, followed by XIII. My favorite battle system goes to XIII. It's polished, challenging enough, and just generally flows really well. You can choose to autobattle for the "turn" or manually fill your ATB gauge. Also depends on the Paradigm you happen to be using that determines what roles your team fulfills. It's like the Job system, only implemented in-battle and for seemless transitions. Second would probably have to be the X system, as it doesn't have a set gauge that refills and can be affected more by your actions in a fight. Also, I love the "Overdrive" system. SOOOO much.

As far as plot goes, I am an avid fan of X's plot, follwed by IV and XIII. VII never really appealed to me, and I never got to play VI or VIII, the other "hard hitters" or console dominators of the franchise. X had so many mythological references and SUCH beautiful graphics and brought out SOOO many emotions that's basicall impossible for you to NOT love it. Sure, it doesn't have the open world map, and the areas are generally a linear route, but.... overall, X is one of the best games I've ever played. As for IV, that game was all about redemption. I can't help but love those plots. And it's dark and sad at times and makes you REALLY think just what the characters must feel. Characters died. Sacrificed themselves. Betrayal and trust. SOOO many things make it a good game. XIII took my number 3 spot because it has such a... new and amazing feel to it. It has such a rich lore that is so essentially tied into the plot that makes you WANT to do all the meta-game stuff just to find it all. And the plot itself, albeit giving a rushed feeling, is one of the most touching things in the world to me. These people are forced to become outcasts who have to either destroy their homes and the people who cast them out or fight and die to protect humankind. Sounds fairly obvious the choice a lot of people might make, but.... it really brings into question many things, one of which being a slave to your destiny or taking control and fate into your own hands. It's beautiful, too, and a great kickoff for current gen based FF games.

I could go on more, but.... I'll end my rant here, with one final note towards Went: I feel the same as you do. It could make a great sequel, but... and especially with the ending to the first one being as good as it was, it better be a good one and not just a last minute game made just as a cash cow for Square Enix to get richer. They've finally started to stand on their feet again, and gain back a lot of lost respect. If this turns out badly, I've a feeling people aren't gonna give them that respect back again. Gamers are very touchy, after all.
