[[OOC: Big post? Maybe! My skin doesn't let me see sooo.... :D ]]
The huge blue bug lunged at Jen and she dived out of the way of its horn, and then rolled to the side of its clawed feet as it charged forwards.
"The hell?" she shouted, clambering to her feet and picking up the kukri that she had dropped in the process. The Heracross stopped charging and spun around, casting around an eye blinded by rage as it sought her out among the forest backdrop. It faced her directly and lowered its ample horn, challenging her. In response, she raised her kukri, bent her knees in preparation to avoid and lowered her head to issue the challenge right back at it. Heracross kicked up dirt on the ground, like a Tauros preparing to stampede; Jen had seen it happen at the farm on her village, when the Tauros herd had gone for the farmer and ended up breaking the fence between their pasture and the Miltank field. Many calves had hatched that summer. Jen tensed to spring.
Heracross surged forwards, its horn aimed at her head.
Jen jumped. She had tried to dive to the left and had prepared to land one knee, but the horn caught her shoulder - hard - and knocked her off course so that she landed heavily against a stray tree stump that she had not noticed before. Fool! She thought. Always check out your surroundings, that's what Edgear taught you! Jen tried to stand, but was pulled down; her kukri had buried itself deep in the soft grain of the stump's bark, and it took more strength than she would have guessed to remove it. And the Heracross was circling. It was waiting for her to make her move. She frowned; never before had she fought an enemy so armoured, so strong... she would have to use every trick she could to force it to submit, but already an idea was forming within her mind, and if she could pull it off, her natural speed could overwhelm the Heracross's bulk.
"This. C'mon. Over here." Jen spoke in hushed tones as she slowly moved into position against the trunk of a similar tree to the stump her kukri had been buried in. If she could get it to charge again... The Heracross promised to deliver. It lowered its horn again and began kicking like a Tauros. Almost intimidatingly, it opened its wing cases and flapped at her, clenching its little clawed fists in anger. And then it ran. Jen waited for as long as she possibly could bare to, and then leapt aside. As she had hoped, the Heracross continued to dart forwards and its horn struck the tree, embedding itself deep within the wood. Straight away, Jen lunged with a kukri and slashed at its arm. The hard blue exoskeleton cracked beneath her blade and the useless limb dropped to the floor, separated from the body. The Heracross roared in pain and anger, but could not move away fast enough. Jen sliced again and removed a leg. The Heracross continued to roar and shook its head but couldn't free the horn. Jen realised her oppurtunity and ran as fast and as far as she could, glad to be able to escape but not quite able to bring herself to kill it.
Unknown to her, Spoink, who had before kept hidden, approached the Heracross in her wake. The hopping Pokémon stared up at the larger creature with a degree of consideration, and then concentrated hard, clenching his fists and urging his pearl towards the bug. Heracross made eye contact with Spoink, and then clenched up in pain, wincing. Spoink continued his ministrations, making no physical contact whatsoever but still being able to cause pain to his foe. Eventually the larger being collapsed, hanging miserable by its embedded horn and balancing weight on its one remaining foot.
Spoink giggled, and then picked up the dismembered arm. Carrying it like a trophy, he continued along the path Jen had taken, immensely proud of his victory.
