Well it's hard to modernize the origin story because the origin stories are usually simplistic with the same story arc.
I don't read the comics that much, but Iron Man has always just rubbed me the wrong way. His "super" power is that iron suit, without it, he's just a rich guy... like the Marvel version of Bruce Wayne, except he's a jerk... Plus he goes corrupt after becoming the leader of the New Avengers and they had to get an new tony stark from and alternate universe to stop him... Finally in the Civil War, he was the founder of the Super Human Registration Act that split the Marvel Universe in half. Captain America took the opposite side as Stark, so that's probably the biggest reason I don't like him, he put Peter Parker in an awkward position too, getting him to reveal his identity to the world. Basically, my two favorite Marvel heroes were eventually hurt by Stark's actions, (Peter Parker sacrificed his marriage to Mary-Jane and his happiness to make a deal with the devil so that it never happened to revive his Aunt May, and Steve Rogers was killed after telling the opposition to the Registration Act to disarm and he was taken into custody.)I've never read the comic. Is Stark's portrayal in the comic dramatically different from that of the movie?
