I'm such a softie I would of found a way to deliver to her anyway. Even if I had to drive it to her myself.

I'm currently a cashier at a lame grocery store, but I have an interview Tuesday with Target, so hopefully I'll be out of there shortly. Target is my favorite chain store, so I hope they hire me. If they don't, I have jobs lined up at Dick's (a sporting goods store found in the northeast) and Toys'R'Us.

And the lowered drinking age in Ontario, the closest Canadian province to me in New York is one the reasons why I love going there so much.
Haha, well, there weren't too many people working during the days. :( Like, there were the managers (who were often busy helping out in the kitchen), a hostess or two (one doubling as cashier), and me. And sometimes a bartender. XD Even if we wanted to break the company's policy, there wouldn't be anyone TO drive it out.

omgomgomg get the job at TRU and get me Pokémon toy discounts \o/

Oooh, you guys get it pretty early then. :O That does sound pretty disgusting, I'd never try it, mostly since I dislike both coffee and beer, I'm sure it would be horrible.

Was it an old lady? XD I've found that a lot of older people get really upset because certain services aren't provided before their bedtime a certain time of day. How did you end up handling the situation?
Yeah. I think in most other provinces the age is 21, though. It really varies here. But yeah it is disgusting. (Though lots of people seem to like it, so...) Right now it reeks of hops/beer which I'm not a fan of. ;_; Though I suppose it beats the concrete smell that was here earlier.

And no, it wasn't an old lady! XD; The woman sounded late 20s, early 30s? There was no reason for her to be so upset over it! I basically just repeated "I'm sorry, we can't deliver before 4" over and over until she hung up on me lmao. I think at one point I put her on hold for no reason just because she was pissing me off. It was like a 15 minute call!

That's odd, I've never heard of the drinking age being different in different areas of a country. Be glad those people like it, it at least gives you a job, even if you do end up having to deal with such an odd smell. Concrete rocks! Though not as much as freshly dried carpet. :O

Aww. XD; I can't believe people can be so persistent about something like that, they shouldn't expect things to be any different for themselves. Putting her on hold sounds like such an awesome move, I can't believe she didn't hang up during it, guess she really must have been hungry and upset. Probably would have been so hilarious if the call ended around 4.

The drinking age is 18 in Quebec, Manitoba, and Alberta. It's 19 everywhere else. ^^

Though I've never done it, I brought my little brother to a bar while he was 18. I had a Coca-Cola, though. XDD

For some reason I had it in my head that Alberta was 21, so I figured others were as well, haha.

It's decided at the provincial level here rather than national, so that's why it ended up different. And concrete sucks. :( It was like fresh paint but worse so I was getting sick off the fumes, lmao.

Omg, I can't believe she didn't hang up too. XD; One of my co-workers was like "Erica, someone's on hold!" and I was just kind of like "I know, she's really annoying and I need a break 8/" and... yeah, that was fun. Sucked having to pick up the phone again when I saw my manager coming over. :'( But lol in the time she was whining to me, she probably could've found like 6 other Chinese places closer where she could walk to or willing to deliver during the day or something. It was ridiculous.

You can drink in your own home from any age (from 5 I think, actually) in our country.

You can only drink in bars from 18 and you have to be 18 to buy alcohol.

I think thats right.

Actually, the drinking age is technically a state's right here in America, but the Federal government would heavily punish any state that tried lowering the drinking age right now by taking away funding for highways and such. So essentially, they are "bribing" the states into keeping their drinking age at 21 to keep the funding they desperately need.

She was probably a very lonely and bored lady then, I don't think it's humanly possible to be that incredibly stubborn. You should have tossed her to your manager, now that would have been an amusing sight, usually they handle customers who become so difficult to work with like the lady you dealt with, or at least that's the experience I've had, I dunno, you could have had a manager who was just as difficult. XD; It's interesting to see how stupid certain people become when they're in the role of a customer.

:( Well your government sucks. idk, I really don't see a problem with lowering the drinking age. If anything, it probably teaches people to be responsible with alcohol at a lower age. And if they're getting drunk off their ass, they have only themselves to blame instead of whoever bought them the booze. 8/

Lol well I wish she'd called somewhere else then. :[ It was just crazy. Oh and there was this other person who nearly made me cry because I was so frustrated with them--she called like a week before Easter expecting my to accomodate her request for a reservation for a party of like... 20. Of course, the only time we could fit her in was like 8 at night and she wanted brunch--our busiest time even if it WASN'T Easter Sunday. Oh my god she was so annoying. x_x I was on the phone arguing with her for a good 15 minutes before I finally just passed her off to my manager who came out of her office like 10 minutes later all annoyed and then came over to bi--er, complain about her with me. XD;

My manager was pretty awesome but v. busy during the days so usually she wasn't up at the front of the restaurant for me to pass annoying customers to. 8|

But yeah, there's being assertive as a customer and then there's being batshit insane. :|

I once had a lady yell at me for opening a bag that we let customers use to hold baked goods. We have to look inside to check what it is so we can charge them correctly. So she hands me the bag and she's like "there's two donuts in there." We still have to check because people might be trying to steal something in the bag. So I open it to check and she's like "Don't open the bag. I don't you breathing and getting your germs on my food." At first I laughed, but then she said "seriously, close the bag now or I'll call your manager over here." Well then I was pissed so as I was scanning her food, I crushed every fragile thing she had with great subtlety. I hate people like her.

That...doesn't seem too right. XD; If people can't be responsible at 21 and older, after knowing the dangers that it can cause, why would they be able to do so at a younger age? The typical teenager probably feels entitled and like they're able to make a proper decision. I also get the feeling that you'd have even younger kids trying to drink, not that it doesn't already happen, but it would probably be easier for them.

Oh wow, that must have been a troublesome person if she could bring you close to actually crying, even if you were frusurated, that's not something I hear about from you all too often. XD; It sounds totally unreasonable, though, I'm glad your manager was able to deal with her and give you someone else you could complain with.

Ah, my managers were always the type to be walking around like, every ten minutes to see if anyone needed help, of course it kept them there a little longer, but I doubt they cared too much since they were on the clock and would get paid for sticking around a little bit longer.

Heeeey, since when you we able to say batsh- here? :O

...and here I thought you wouldn't do anything like that. XD; I can totally relate, I've dealt with so many annoying customers like that, it seems like a lot of people really do lose their ability to be reasonable when they're customers. After working in retail, it's the type of thing I would never want to put anyone else through.

If I start working at Target, I'll probably be working at the service counter. I just can't wait to deal with angry people trying to return stuff they carelessly bought without considering what the person wanted or people secretly returning crap they pretended to like but didn't really want. :D

Omg ilu so hard. XD; I'd really want to do that, but I so wouldn't have had the guts to ahaha. You should've let her call your manager over so s/he could smack the customer. :(

Eh, I think studies have been done in countries where the drinking age is 16 and there's a bit of improvement as far as drunk driving rates, etc. :| I dunno, I just don't think there's a point in it being so high. I mean, I tihnk part of the appeal in getting drunk off your ass at high school parties is the fact that it's a ~forbidden~ thing so obviously it must be cool. Or something. I don't know. 8/ I just don't think there's any difference between a drinking age of 18 and of 21 besides the fact that for several years it's a hassle to get alcohol.

She was just... the rudest person I've ever had the misfortune of being on the phone with. ;_; 'Cause you're right, I don't get emotional or let my frustration show very often and ohhh my god I'm getting annoyed just thinking about her. >8|

There were three managers of that restaurant, and only two were usually around, and since they were shortstaffed during the day, it was usually hard to find one. :] They were really helpful and accomodating when they were found though, haha. I've yet to have any experience with a bad manager or anything, but managers like that and yours seem to be pretty good.

...it doesn't pick it up on the censors since it's part of another word so it doesn't star it out. shhhhhhhhhhhh. XD

OMG I've not been here for a while :O.

What's up guys? :P
Welcome back, but please try to stay on topic; this thread isn't for random messages.

If you do, make sure you speak to them very loudly when they return ridiculous things:

"OH, YOU MEAN YOU WANT TO RETURN THIS SINGING FISH? I CAN'T BELIEVE SOMEONE WOULD REFUSE A WONDERFUL GIFT LIKE THIS SINGING FISH; HOW TERRIBLE. I CAN OFFER YOU A STORE CREDIT FOR THIS SINGING FISH."

:>

Any job that involves customer service is going to suck, because no matter what people are going to find something to complain about. Nothing about their shopping experience is ever perfect, and you have to deal with it even if it wasn't your fault. I get so mad at people and want to just yell at them and say it's not my fault, but unfortunately "The customer is always right"...even when they're wrong. XD

I'd rather work somewhere where I didn't have to deal with people, on the phone or in person. But I don't think there are any entry-level jobs like that that exist =(

I prefer dealing with people on the phone than in person but... yeah, customer service sucks no matter what.

I got the job I have now through my dad; he works at this brewery and he heard they were looking for someone and submitted my resume without even asking me and they gave me the job without an interview, lmao. The only outside people I have to deal with are the ones who come into the office looking for someone and then I just have to go find said person. It's so much less stressful than my old job, lol.

I just like the part where I have access to the internet the whole time. \o/

Lol...sounds like a good deal. I wouldn't be complaining if I could make money and be on PC at the same time XD

We had computers in the back, but the dry cleaning database program was always up because we had to keep detailing clothes into the computer. I did used to bring my DS and play pokemon during my lunch break and during slow times...until my boss came in and saw my DS sitting out on the counter after I stupidly forgot to hide it. Once again, I wanted to yell at her and say "Are you joking? There's nothing to do...why can't I play?" She just told me not to bring it to work anymore. So then I really had nothing to do except listen to the radio X(

Yeah, the only complaint I might have is having to be in by 7 AM but... that's nothing compared to everything else. XD;

Yeah, there were computers at my old place but they all had the takeout program open and no internet connection. Maaaaaan it was boring on slow days--all I had to do was drawing on the back of sticky notes and memos. 8| Plus they had the most annoying uniform ever. >:| Ties suck and formal shirts are waaaaaaaay too hot in late April.

Ewww 7 AM? Not every day though, right? That would most certainly suck. Although I guess it's not better than waking up early for school. Although since most of my classes are later this semester, I think I've been programmed to need a lot of sleep XD

Haha...We had to wear purple t-shirts. They were comfy, but I felt kinda silly wearing them. On slow days we had absolutely nothing to do. My sister and I both worked there, and me and this other kid to annoying the hell out of her and she got so pissed she starting throwing hangers at us. It sounds kind of cruel now, but when you have nothing to do for hours and hours you need some entertainment, amirite? XD

I normally work 3-4 days a week but in the next two weeks I'm taking over my superiors' job since he's on vacation. 8| So I'll probably be in everyday. I'm so not a morning person so that kinda sucks, but at least I'm usually out of here around 4ish.

Lol, well so long as you're comfy. ;p But lol, yeah I can relate. XD We used to try to put toothpicks in each others' hair without the other noticing sometimes. 8| ...god that was a boring job.
