Wait, Angela, do you get 2 weeks off to study for exams, and then take exams, and then get more break time? XD

Yes:D, it's also like this in the spring, so my summer vacation starts in April/may:D and is over in August
Are you still in HS, Angela? Your profile says your 16, so I wondered that, because you sound like you're in a college/university setting. XD Or is that just how Iceland classes work?

I am in college:D, in Iceland you are in elementary school (grunskóli), then when your 13 you go to High School (gagó), then when your 16 you go to (Framhaldsskóli) college, and when your 20 something you have the option of going to University (Háskóli), but you only get into university if you finish the (Framhaldsskóla),,,

I could have quit school this year since (Framhaldsskóli) is a optional;) and gone out and found a job or just quit entirely and done nothing, but my mom that is a teacher said that she would throw me out at 18 if I were not in school nor working, but I did not go to work since I want to become a Doctor or a Vet:D.

Note that I had taken some classes in college when I was in High School:D, so I'm year ahead of my class mates:D.

I have assignments and I am not a happy bunny.
Still, I'm only in college 'til winter holidays, then I've gone and tried college for my mother and I suppose my own sake, and can go do what I want, namely find me a job in agriculture or the like until I can get an HGV licence.

While Americans start school at the age of six and end at eighteen, the rest of the world tends to start at four and end at sixteen.

I started at school when I was 6;), but I did learn something in Kindergarten:D

Canada follows the US's schooling example. We have the same general system, so I often get confused when people from other countries are talking about school. @_@;

And Angela, I'm so jealous. :( I have a few days between end of classes and the start of exams. Well, there's more if my exams aren't early in the exam period but they're usually spread out fairly well (so I'm stuck in the dorms the whole time baaw).

I think I never left anyone in Kindergarten without beating them up or making them cry. I was worse than the Antichrist. I swear my mom had to come to my school to discuss my situation EVERY SINGLE DAY.

But now that I gained some of the mentality I never gotten, I'm alright. ;D

I had to take Kindergarten twice. XD; When I was little, the "daycare" and Kindergarten were in the same school for me and since I was smart, they put me in Kindergarten at age 4. So of course, when it came time to move on to grade 1, my parents flipped out and didn't want me to be ahead a year so I took Kindergarten again. I still don't understand their reasoning but oh well. I wouldn't have met some of my best friends if I hadn't been in the grade level I was all through school so I can deal. :P

I started school when I was four(if nursery counts) and had the option to leave when I was sixteen but as I failed everything I redid the year and passed. After that I decided to do a college course for 2 years as if I left school and didn't have a job my mum would throw me out. Even though I was only seventeen. But I am glad I stayed on for the extra 2 years, it made me decide what job I would like to go into. Before that I had no idea.

*Baths in Lightnings jealousy*, I was confused too when I started going to forums, and I'm still a bit confused about the US system.

I hate it when Exams are like really close to each other, it leaves you less time to study, but I live at home so I can go and do something while the exams are.
... I never got why they teach you US English when the UK is right south of you.
In fact, they teach all Europeans US English and it's really quite stupid.
Actually they do teach us UK English, I could even speak like a British person, but they also teach us the different between those two;), so I can understand both, like in high school we actually take tests that make us translate from UK English to US English;),

But I speak more US English, because UK English boars me, and I the episodes I watch are from US:D, the UK ones are not as amusing as the USA ones:D, and I think UK English is quite dull.

I don't have much to say about school right now. I'm about to enter my sixth week at home due to a strike. O_O

I should be having final exams right now, but....

Oh well that's good, the way they teach you seems ideal.

Me too, usually. I don't mind having them every other day or so, though. That can be okay. I just hated last year's fall term--I had all my exams in the first week except ONE which was a week and a half later. So... I moved back home after the first few exams and then my mom just drove me back up to my school the day-of the last exam so I could take it. XD;

Two years ago I hate 2 exams daily. It was crazy. Had only an hour break between them. Was so overworked, I was constantly tired.

Omg it's like this with me now,

I had all my exams in the first week exept the math one, that is the one I'm taking tomorrow.

Thats kinda clever, is your school close to your home?

Only somewhat. It's about an hour and a half away (on a good day) which is why I live on campus instead of commuting.

I don't know about commuting....I'm debating transferring to a different school next semester, preferably closer to home, which means I'd have to live at home an drive at least a half an hour to and from school since all the ones I'm looking at aren't right in town. I need to get a car first. =/

I always noticed how Europe seemed to be two years ahead of everyone here in North America for school...I guess it's just a different system. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the government in some European countries pay for students to attend university?

Yes they do. I know that in Scotland it is all paid for them. Not sure about other European countries. I know England doesn't which is one of the main reasons I would rather avoid University, if I have to do it I will but hopefully I won't have to.

I remember hearing in my french class that university in France is paid for by the government as well. It makes you think that going to school in Europe might be worth it (If the offer still applies to foreign students =P)

I remember kindergarten! Aaah, it was fun. I got sick all the time, though. The school wanted really high attendance records, so people would send in their children sick and I caught just about every cold bug that ever entered the grounds when I was there. I missed, like, half the school year. But it was fun when I wasn't sick. I found an old picture of me back then, I was so freaking tiny next to the big oak tree in the playground. XD;

My exams are nice and flexible right now; I love online school. <3 It's basically "all of these subjects must be done this week. Your options of days for Exam #1 are [blah], days for Exam #2 are [blah], and so forth, schedule as you please." I'll be kind of sad when I move since I know that's not common. Oh well, I'll adapt. |D

I would love to study abroad, just to get a feel for what it's like elsewhere in the world. Spelling would be interesting. (I "naturally" write with the bastard child of US and UK+more English so I'm always trying to check myself in formal writing to make sure it fits.) I remember when my friend from Ireland came over here, she lost so many points on English exams when she was adjusting to US English. The funny thing is that nobody at the school can spell since until high school, they support "creative" spelling.

Oh, school.
