I would refuse to work in a fast food restaurant, even if I was paid royally or something. It's not really worth the time and the effort for McDonalds. The only exception I would make would be Wendys, which is a fast food ice cream place which sells ice cream, milk shakes and hot dogs and things like that.
Wendys is pretty famous over here, a lot of people go there and enjoy the food. But they also say it's expensive as heck. Then again, I've never been there so I can't say if the foods good or bad, or if it's really expensive or not.

That's kinda cool I guess, if I knew what it was. x_x I'm assuming it's like being a tenant, or owning a house and kicking people out if they mistreat it or something, right? :/

My mother keeps yapping at me about getting a course or something, which I have been looking into, which helps. I want to try and do a couple of short courses, but I want to do something which involves some barista work or something, that'd be fun. Making cool shapes in coffee. ^_^

McDonald's would probably be one of the last places I would want to work. Fastfood places never seem to be an appealing job. That's why I opted to go for retail jobs.

I really went out of my way to avoid working in fast food OR retail if I can help it... but if I must work for either one, then indeed rather pick retail or even cashier job instead of fast food. Morales are usually stupidly low in fast food in terms of a working environment and can get pretty negative because most of the younger staff work with the mentality of finding other jobs or how to get out of the job lol... not exactly the most fulfilling or satisfying job as well unless you climb higher up and enter management aspect of the store at the very least.

Thank goodness I never had to experience working in McDonald... x.x;

Sometimes you got no options as you just need any type of job (that's within legal means) to stay alive XD then you'll be forced to work in fast food.

Yeah it's a vicious cycle... you need experience to get hired, but you need to get hired in order to gain experience. Getting the first job so you have something to write in resume is always the toughest step.

As for certificate... really? Need certificate even for retail? I did not expect that at all... where did you try to apply that's retail and they ask for certificate? Is it some special type of store or what o_O

Firstly, that thing about fast food was directed at Kenshin. Secondly, it just seems to be like that these days. They don't ask for one, but your chances are upped a lot if you have a Certificate in Retail.

I personally think any old Certificate is enough, just to show that you can do something as long as this and have the mindset to complete it, but I guess the world doesn't turn that way. :/

I already worked at a McDonald's, but had to quit because I had no energy. I had school and then not even a hour to relax before I had to go to McDonald's, it really stressed me out.

I will never work in McDonald's. The smell alone is enough to make me feel sick, never mind working there.

This is why I went to University so I don't have to work at McDonald's! :3

You WILL work at McDonalds, Captain Fabio. In due time, you will be working there. Hypno says so, and he's a hypnotist, so it must be true. :)

Wait, you'd even consider going to work in a fast-food place? :| I'd love to work for some retail shop, except everything these days needs some sort of certificate to prove you're trained in those areas. :(
No, I would choose restaurants above fast food. Although not much of an improvement I think it is still better then a fast food joint. I know when I was washing dishes at my last job they were pretty lenient with things(a bit too lenient with all the druggies employed their. I just liked the fact that I didn't have a dress code there, and it was quite "free" so to speak. Then again it wasn't a corporation so that was nice as well. And I work at a TJ Maxx and I don't have to have a certificate for anything outside of my birth one. I think most distribution places need certificate but most merchandising does not require it.

I think that the "I'm an university student so I can get good jobs" is a total myth :x really expect them university students to fight against high school graduates/drop outs for the same "low level" job.

It's sad but true. I'm trying to pretend that it's not the case for me at the moment by waiting some more for replies from various potential employers, but if worse comes to worse that I can't do anything with my education teacher + science double degree (which is super likely cause gov't just cut education fundings and they just fired 400 teachers already), then McDonald gogogo!

It is, but the only thing with hiring some high schoolers is they have to be restrictive on work times and breaks if they are under the age of 18, which would leave them more prone to hiring somebody with out those restrictions. I have seen plenty of high schoolers work at night and they are more abundant then college students like myself.

I think one thing with McDonalds is that they are purely and simply, cheap. They'll hire younger people such as high schoolers because they know they can force them to quitwhevener they want. They know they can make them work whatever hours they feel. Also they don't have to pay younger people as much as older people, such as us people, because isk why younger people think $100 a week is cool.

Aww, Frosty, if you ever work at McD I'll make sure to order the most expensive thing on the menu!

Seconded.

My plans for summer are not much honestly.

- I'll be attending YGO Nationals in a week or so time. If I do well, I'll attend Euros too.

- I need to pass my driving test, so best get that done over the summer too.

- Sort out the next phase of my life.
