I just noticed something on my pokemon game. Alright, so we all know that different pokemon can breed. However, we also know that animals of different species cannot have babies, or at least babies that can reproduce. My question is... does this mean that a lot of pokemon are closely related on the species level?

Pokemon are all decended genetically from Mew. True story.

I know that they can have kids when their ancestor is closely related, but the only time I've heard of that offspring giving birth is a mule, and that was even used as a roman saying "when mules foal" or something like that.
I'll try to find it when I can, but it happened in Europe, and people in Albania thought it was the spawn of the devil. Why, I don't know.
The pokemon couldn't be directly descended from mew however, because we all know that they would all be able to spawn with each other.
