One of my friends wants me to read them because he thinks they're the best books ever in the history of mankind.

I prefer Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth book series. Eleven books. And
mostly three times the number of pages as Stephen King's Dark Tower series.

These Sword of Truth books begin with Wizard's First Rule and end with Confessor. Borrowing some themes from Tolkien and being similar to Eragon and Lord of the Rings in terms of adventure, they have just enough
action (romance included), violence, and visual imagery to have had me purchase the books. Four hundred CAD & a month of reading later...

NOTE: Each of the eleven books features one of the Wizrad Rules. To read of the next Rule is part of why I got hooked.
