Minnesota wouldn't be so cold if it wasn't essentially in the dead center of the continent. And our coldest city is in a valley below every city around it. So they're at -30F when a city 10 miles away and out of that valley is at 0F.

Of course, right now all our snow is melting but the ground is still frozen. So there's lots of fields being flooded with pond-size bodies of water, and rivers are starting to flood. It also rained a fair bit this week, so it's not looking good for some of the river cities in and around MN. D;

We also get pretty hot in the summer sometimes. All-time high temp in the state is 114F, and our normal highs are between 80F and 90F for the summer.

We also go from being arid in the winter to humid in the summer.

Ooh, NZ's weather is more bipolar than anywhere else I know. Every five minutes it changes, seriously.
In Winter for example, it could be hot as hell and then the next minute thunder and lightning ravage the place.

Thunderstorms tend to roll in quickly here near the prairie, though we usually know about them at least a day or two in advance. Of course, they can also intensify very quickly. Snowstorms, on the other hand, like to take their sweet, sweet time, and be all blizzardy.

Being near the great lakes means more or less hot summers and cold winters, but we don't get nearly the amount of variation that inland states like Minnesota or North Dakota do.

That's probably true.

Anyways... does anyone else like watching footage of a storm-cloud intensifying as it approaches an area? I do. It's fascinating to watch how it grows.

Weather videos are always hypnotic and fascinating. Sometimes I think I might like to chase a storm someday.

I've never witnessed any tornadoes form in person, but I have seen my fair share of funnel clouds that never touched down.

Same here. It's really surreal when it happens.

Watching for the lightning's frequency is fascinating. Storms from indoors with decent vantage points are fascinating in general.

That's true too. This may be a bit less intense, but I also enjoy a good cup of tea and a book to read during a summer thunderstorm. So comfortable.

I like thunderstorms at night, the rhythmic sound of the rain is nice plus the rumbling of thunder.

BUT. Right now I can't think of anything except HGSS which comes out today :S set my alarm for 11:30 so I can get to the store by like at least 1. prob 12:30
