I'm a little disappointed at the moment, I'm sending in job application after job application, and I'm not even getting an interview. v_v; Ah, well, there's always mom: made of money.

I feel your pain Beach. I'm going through the same process right now, and it sucks cause it's so close to me to going to college and I'll need the money.

Exactly.

Well Derk, I've kinda used up my time a lil' too long. I mean, 18 without a job? That's not exactly a heart-warming fact. :( I have two vehicles, both need gas, minor repairs, etc. I'm not going to become a workaholic for money, I just want to make ends meet, is all.

Exactly.

18 without a job?

The only proper job you would have at 18 would be a side job, shifts prolly in some store or restaurant.
I'd still be studying at 18, without a job.
It's considered normal over here..

You really shouldn't be taking responsibility of your family's financial issues at 18, unless there isn't any other alternative.

4-year universities cost a hell of a lot. I mean, one year of housing costs about roughly what half of my tuition commuting from home to a technical college is for two years. And that doesn't include the 4-year school's tuition.

No one said anything about taking over the family's financial issues. This is more about taking more responsibility for your own finances at 18.

To me, even at the age of 18, a person is a part of the family and the parents are supposed to take responsibility of them. So yeah, that files under the family's financial issues for me.
Depends really, at what age you think you become completely independent.

But if you want a job, and want to take care of your finances at 18 for independence.
Then that's respectable, something even I plan on doing.

Well, I do think most 18 year olds would have difficulty covering all of their expenses, especially considering most would have to get schooling just to have a job that makes ends meet.

No, but it will get you just where you want to be on the independence scale.
A little dependency always exists.
Unless, you score scholarships, then I think you can get pretty close to paying all your expenses on your own.

...unless you go out-of-state, like I did. I had to get loans and other assistance to fully fund my expenses, as well as 1:00AM phone calls home begging for money from mom and dad. Which only had about a 65% success rate, lol

Which is one reason why I skipped the 4-year schools in favor of the two-year schools. That and I didn't wanna deal with a bunch of gen eds that have nothing to do AT ALL with what I will encounter in the field I'm going into.

Looking back, that would have been the smart move (having three more semesters of literature... UGH!). But I was young and naive back then, and wanted to get away to South Carolina right away (in fact I moved in with my uncle who lives near my undergrad school about three days after graduation xD), so I made a not-so-smart move...

And I'm probably gonna regret it once I start having to pay those loans back :/

Were up to something! XD ITS A MYSTERY

I think they're discussing school or loans or something along those lines...speaking of which, I have to leave for an AP exam in about ten minutes...and I've barely finished breakfast...and typing on here isn't helping...

I normally eat something light. Toast with orange juice so I can move around and do things

I never eat breakfast. I'm such a poor role model, xD

I tend not to eat anything when I have tests/exams in the mornings. :( I try to drink water or a hot chocolate or *something* before hand so at least my stomach isn't totally empty but even then I usually forget because I'm in such a rush. XD;

I just don't eat breakfast normally so I don't think to on important days either. :(

I have honey on toast as breakfast... whee happiness. :3
