Even though Liliana was still freaked out about the dream, she decided they needed to move on anyway. There was no point in being freaked out about a nightmare for an entire day while they could be reaching Violet City and facing the first gym. So she and her Pokémon went on their way again. The landscape was a lot of the same. A few hills, a lot of trees and a small path to follow. It was quite dull, and Liliana was in a hurry to reach the city and perhaps even get some proper rest. Even though she had slept the last night, it felt as if she might have been sleep for maybe an hour at most.
This was when she noticed sharp cries. A shockwave went through the ground, almost knocking Liliana down. She just had to know what was happening, and she found out soon enough. When she reached the site she found two people in a fierce battle. There was a woman fighting with a Charizard as a man was opposing her with his Dragonite. A mighty sight to see the titans fighting each other.
The woman had very dark skin and even darker hair. She was holding her arm in front of her face to shield her eyes from the dust that the Dragonite had whipped up with its twister. The Charizard countered the twister with a beat of its wings, dove toward the Dragonite and fired a powerful Dragon Rage attack. The blonde male was asking his dragon to hit the Charizard with an Aqua Tail, but the red creature dodged it exprertly.
"Ah Power… It does feel great to hold it, " Liliana jumped, she hadn't heard the man coming. He was small, bald and had a long white beard. Almost stereotype wise man with his brown clothing. He also had a cane, and whenever he moved he seemed to be in a bit of pain. "Power does come at a cost sometime, sometimes it forces you to choose the wrong side of something and make a bad decision, but it's worth it to have that feeling of overwhelming power… wouldn't you agree?"
"Power.." Liliana repeated. The word, it seemed to daze her a bit. Almost tempting her. When she turned to look at the man he was gone. Power… She had never held real power before. Never had she really felt important. Sure, she knew she was important to her family. But not in a real way. Not in a way that she might want it to be. She had the strange desire to be powerful, to make a difference. Sure, everything came with a cost, right? But what if the cost was worth it. What if she could do great good with the power? Or-
Her thought was interrupted by another wave from the battlefield. The Charizard had attacked the Dragonite with a Dragon Pulse of a power that Liliana had never seen before. The pulse was so powerful that the entire area was engulfed in a gust of wind, the trees bending away from the dragon. The Dragonite wasn't able to fend it off, and it fell down hard into the ground. The dark woman called her Charizard back, complimenting it on its performance as she called it back. She turned away from the boy with such cool grace. Liliana had no choice but to admire her. That was how she wanted to be. With a Pokémon so strong as the Charizard.
Power… Yes power was something she would like to achieve someday. She wouldn't do anything really bad to get it of course! Of course..?
She had the sudden urge to train her Pokémon. To find someone to battle. She looked around and saw a girl battling a wild Ledyba with her Venonat, but the wild Pokémon fled the battle. She seemed to be disappointed and Liliana approached her.
"Feel like battling?" She asked and the girl's face lit up with surprise and delight.
"Yes sure, uhm, I have three Pokémon. What kind of battle do you want?" Liliana felt a surge of overconfidence. She could surely take on this girl's three Pokémon, she didn't looks all to powerful as a trainer. It would be no big deal, really.
"Single battle, two to three okay? I'm Liliana by the way"
"Felice, and you're one!" the girl brushed a lock of white blonde hair behind her ear as she looked at her Vanonat. Liliana decided to start with Djali, who was in need of some desperate training before she could be the powerhouse against the Violet gym. She released the Pokémon from her ball and Djali came out, looking around nervously. Liliana briefly wondered if Djali would ever stop being so tense, but then focused on the Vanonat again.
"Nelly, use Confusion!" Felice wasn't waiting for anything, she cut right to the chase. Vanonat's eyes turned a strange pink colour as Djali was lifted into the air and swung away. The Vanonat seemed to have recently learned the move, however, because the throw was very weak and Djali just landed on his feet.
"Djali, do on and tackle!"
"Nelly, tackle the Shinx right back!" The two Pokémon rushed toward each other, prepared to collide head first if it weren't for Liliana's last minute command. "Djali, now side-step and hit it from the side!" Djali jumped out of the way at the last minute and hit Nelly in the side. The Vanonat seemed to have received great damage from that single move, but it recovered quickly and jumped back up.
"Nelly, try Condusion again!" Liliana watched Djali be lifted into the air again, but once again the throw was weak and Djali landed no problem. "Djali, tackle!" Djali rushed toward the Vanonat the moment its feet touched the ground and threw it upwards. Once again Nelly's defense seemed to be very low, because it seemed to get great damage from this one move.
"Nelly, you can do it! Try Confusion again!" Felice seemed to have a lot of confidence in the Vanonat. This time Nelly succeeded in pulling off the move affectively. It threw Djali against a tree, something the Shinx did not like very much. Felice eagerly cheered Nelly on to do it again, and Djali hadn't slid down to the ground yet or the same move was repeated, slamming her against the tree again.
"Djali, quickly tackle him with all of your might!" the Shinx got up as soon as it reached the round. Nelly tried to hit her with Confusion again, but Djali easily dodged them. Where Nelly had aimed a small pink dot grazed the ground, but there was nothing there. Djali hit Vanonat right on the nose and it flew into another tree, sliding fown unconscious.
"Come back Nelly, you did great. Sammy, it's your turn!" The Poké Ball revealed a small Sandshrew. It eagerly jumped up and down. "Use scratch, Sammy!" the creature jumped toward Djali and scratched it right in the nose. That seemed to anger her because she jumped toward it with a start and tackled Sammy away from her. It flew a bit away, landing on its back but it jumped up no problem.
"Sammy you can do it, try that again!" Sammy did, it once again jumped up toward Djali, who dodged and tried to tackle it again. Sammy was also quick and avoided the attack, after it had sidestepped it scratched Djali angrily at the side. This was too much for the little Shinx and she fell to the ground exhausted.
"It's okay little one, come back. Nala, your turn!" Liliana released the little grass type, and as soon as it was out she told her to use Razor Leaf. One series of leaves and Sammy was down. Ground types did not like that grass. And there was the little tidbit that Nala was much stronger than Sammy was.
"Ow, Sammy! That's okay, I still have Sunny left. Try beating him so easily!" Felice eagerly released a Sunflora, it seemed a lot stronger than the other two had been. "Sunny, use Pound for a start!" Sunny jumped forward and brought her leaf down right on top of Nala's head. You'd think that leaf wouldn't be able to hit very hard, but in that you were wrong. It seemed the leaf was strong as a brick, because Nala shook her head painfully. She angrily released a Razor Leaf, but it didn't seem to do anything.
"Nala, Sunflora is a grass type! Don't try to fight grass with grass! Try tackle instead!" Nala raced toward Sunny, but he easily dodged her attack and fired another pound.
"Sunny, use growth, after that deliver another pound attack!" Felice seemed to be entirely in tune with her Sunflora, because she knew exactly what to do. Suddenly, Sunny seemed to glow as he grew at least an inch bigger and his leaves grew significantly in size. It quickly brought one down on Nala. At the same time Nala used a tackle to push against the leaf. The two seemed to struggle for a while, neither of them penetrating into the other's defenses. Then Nala seemed to struggle to keep up, the small thing simply wasn't up against Sunflora after his growth. Then the unthinkable happened.
Nala glowed in a bright white light as she slowly grew bigger. After the light broke away, she cried out enthusiastically. Nala had evolved into a Bayleaf! She growled low as she pushed against the Sunflora, now being the same height, and knocked him over. He scrambled to his feet and seemed to wait for another command.
"Congrats Nala!" Liliana called to her Pokémon. "Now see if he can dodge a tackle of yours!"
"Sunny, don't let this catch you off-guard! Try pound again, we'll get them!" Sunny jumped up and brought his leaf down for a pound, but Bayleaf brought her head down and waited patiently for sunny to be right under her. Then she jumped up and caught Sunny in his stomach. She moved her neck and flung him to the side. He tried getting up, but collapsed. Nala was breathing heavily and looking triumphantly at the Pokémon she had tried to defeat.
"Ow, Sunny. It's okay, come back," Felice smiled as she recalled her Pokémon. "That was one amazing battle, eh? You won, fair and square, and congrats on the Bayleaf. I have to go though, get these three healed up before I get attacked by a wild Pokémon." She laughed kindly and ran toward Violet city. Liliana moved to follow when she heard a rustle of leaves.
She turned so fast that her dark hair spun around her, smacking her in the face from the other side. She saw a flash of the old man she had seen before, his shoulders seemed to be shaking as if he were chuckling to himself. He was no longer wearing worn brown clothes however, instead there was a bright white cloak.
Liliana shuddered. The cloak reminded her a bit too much of the nightmare. The death of the guy. Zephyr…
She quickly blocked the thought from her mind as she started toward Violet city. She was very close now, it was only a little bit away. As she arrived she noticed the beauty of the city, very different from the bit rough looks of Cherrygrove. She ran toward the Center to heal her Pokémon, but all the while she saw the big building rising above all others. The gym. A feeling of longing and anticipation rose in her as she entered the center. She would show him. Show the leader that she did possess some power.
