[Challenge] The Monotype Challenge v8, Tera Edition

I'm actually curious what's going to happen when Stenir completes all 18 Ultimate Run Monotype challenges. Will he be added to each "Game Mastery" Hall of Fame as well? I kind of wanted to be the first person in this thread to do the "Game Mastery" challenge for Ruby/Sapphire, but I've since accepted that I won't be. (I hope this doesn't get misconstrued as me wanting a pity party. I've 100% made peace with it.)
Yes, Stenir will be added to each Game Mastery Hall of Fame as he gets his final type in each game. He will also, simultaneously, still have all his runs in the Ultimate Hall of Fame, and be added to the Type Mastery Hall of Fame once he's done one run of each type. The only reason he hasn't been added as a challenger for Game Mastery as well is because he hasn't asked to do so yet. (He's only applied for one Ultimate Challenge at a time.)

I was planning on signing up for them in one shot when I get down to the last type. I have been doing them one at a time only because I was never certain whether I wanted to do another one. Never know after doing seven games if you wanna do another seven. But, yeah, I could sign up for them now, but for me, it makes more sense to do it right at the end so only one left is open to be completed. Less to have to jump around and mark as completed.

There's still quite a few games left. I think like 62 if you count my gen 7 ghost that I'll be starting later tonight. It takes about a week or so to do a run...I'm trying not to go too crazy. I wouldn't be opposed to trying to get them all done by end of year 2025, but yeah, not trying to rush. There are some days I don't feel like playing, and some days my arthritis doesn't allow me to play as it gets worse during the cold months here. There's also a point when I stop and do the Four Job Fiesta, which eats up a few weeks.

I will say this, I'm cheering you on, Cosmic. Us trainers stick together...I also want to do Gen 8 and Gen 9...and then also PLA. So, I'm excited to see what comes of your runs because it's the combined energy of us all here that keeps us all going.

I've struggled to find the right words to reply to this. What can I say except "Thank you"? (if you'll pardon the Disney song reference)

Update 4 (Route 111 -> Petalburg Gym)

It's been a while since I last updated my phone Pokemon game. During the power outage in my region, I managed to beat Archie, with two Pokemon fainted in the process, and beat Flannery easily with my type advantage. I didn't make a separate update for Flannery since, by the time the power came back on, I had already made it to Norman's room in his gym, though I had lost my first battle. The rematch ended up being mostly decided through my female team members all learning Attract, infatuating his Truant Slaking and slowly chipping away at their HP, and healing with Soda Pops whenever they got hit by a Facade. I did come close to running out of healing items, since I had not bought many, but the second Slaking kept trying and failing to use Focus Punch against Lombre, which probably won me the battle.

I evolved both Wingull and Tentacool, and picked up some new moves for everyone. Marshtomp, Lombre, and Tentacruel all learned Secret Power for a better Normal-type move, while Pelipper and Tentacruel swapped out Supersonic for Attract because all of Norman's Pokemon are male. Finally, Tentacruel learned Bubblebeam for a strong STAB move. It won't have it for long, though, since everyone's about to learn Surf!

I'm not starting up my next non-phone monotype just yet because I'm busy preparing a challenge event for the holiday; keep your eyes peeled.

EDIT: One of my Pokemon also got PokeRus from the battle with Archie, making this my third time ever getting the PokeRus.

Anytime! We all need support at different times. I'm just glad I found a group as passionate about Pokémon that I could fit in to. A great group we've got here.

Ooh....challenge event! Will be looking out for it!

I'm keeping going even though I don't have to because I havent played through Gen 8 or 9 in a while.

First of all, I would like to explain why I chose Emerald Crest for my first ever monotype challenge here on pokecommunity, It's just because it allows me to "customize" my run, I chose normal type, and am playing it randomized, it will only allow me to capture normal type Pokemon, and the story and difficulty are the same as in emerald, only difference being, it has pokemon up to gen 8

Now for the run.

As a final say on Ghost as a type, it's a pretty fun type. Sometimes you can choose to have some tankier 'mons like Drifblim, or you can have physical ones like Mimikyu and Decidueye, or even specialists like Mismagius. It's a good type to play as - I'm actually sort of looking forward to doing Galar and Paldea with it when I get to those. But hey, with this run done, that completes another Ultimate...and I'm halfway through them all. I've got one week before a cruise (during which I'll be sort of able to check via wifi, but won't be at my computer so won't do all the fancy stuff), so I'm taking a little bit of a break and trying Reginald Cosmic's No Evolution, but I'm going to go ahead and sign up for my next Ultimate, which is going to be Poison. I'm still doing runs, but hopefully I won't come back and need to bombard the board with two or three back to back posts!

I finished the run, Steven was much harder than expected, not gonna describe all the run, just the generic emerald play trough, it even ended up being easier than expected cuz I ended up always being overleved, even against Elite 4, it only took me tons of grinding to beat Stevens team, THAT was a tough battle

Update 1

As expected I started off with Tepig, and nicknamed him Arnold, no secret at the start really, just did got the the first gym, battled Cress, and while doing the Munna episode... Surprise! Arnold evolved, now I officially have my First fighting type.
Ended up catching a Purrloin for the Cut hm, but he didn't even see a battle yet
Cress's Panpour ended up being a difficult battle, it Hits hard, I only survived thanks to the Oran Berry Cherren gave me right before the gym, and a Fresh Water I got when entering the gym.

That's all for today, kinda busy this days, but the challenge will have some updates daily, I think

Gym Maniac Neon

Update 2

Finally... I finally beat Lenora and got the 2nd badge, it took a TON more grinding than I expected, especially with me having the type advantage and 2 pokemon, still took me 3 tries, even being a little overleved.

I tried doing it with Arnold alone, but it was impossible, so I caught Keanu at lvl 12 and had to raise him till lvl 21 using wild Pokemon, that give an almost negligible amount of exp.

6. Champion!!

I came back to this and finished the game. My last update of this was just before Victory Road. Anyways, Serena there was easy, as Toxicroak swept her whole team.

Now, the Elite 4. Some scary moments here and there, but nothing too crazy! I fought Drasna first. Medicham easily handled most of her team. Druddigon was annoying with Dragon Tail and healing, but thanks to Poison damage Toxicroak dealt with it. Malva was the scariest one, as Talonflame is a nightmare for my team. I had to sacrifice 3 Pokémon to it, eventually beating it with Toxicroak's Sucker Punch thanks to recoil damage from Flare Blitz and Brave Bird. Siebold was not hard, although his Starmie knowing Dazzling Gleam was a surprise that destroyed my Pangoro (I switched into a predicted Psychic to die in the next turn xD) Medicham beat Starmie surviving with 1 HP. And Wikstrom was easy, Scizor a bit annoying, and the Aegislash was not too hard for Pangoro.

After the Elite Four, only Diantha, the champion, remained! And it was scary at first, as I sent my Lucario versus her Hawlucha. I immediately switched into my own Hawlucha expecting a Fighting move and she went for Swords Dance. Thankfully my bird was faster, otherwise I could have easily died to her Hawlucha. After that, my own Hawlucha swept almost her whole team. Gourgeist was funny as I used Fly instead of Acrobatics when she went for Phantom Force. Only Mega Gardevoir was left, but Acrobatics did a lot of damage before Hawlucha finally went down, so my Lucario with Shadow Ball finished the fight, and I finished the game...! Or not, because a fight with AZ remained. But that was extremely easy, with Chesnaught dealing with his Golurk to finally end the run!

This was my final team, no spoiler tag this time as they deserve to be shown!

I plan to play the post-game, but I don't think it will be worth updating this anymore, so run is over. I remembered so little about this game, as I played Y on release and never touched gen VI again. I also broke the game back then with the Exp. Share, having an overleveled team. But it confirmed what I remembered, quite a weak entry, with some cool moments and fights, very nice songs but with some flaws as well, together with Shield, my least favourite main entry, but still quite decent and fun.

Hawlucha is an absolute beast and easily my best Pokémon, Pangoro was the worst, but at least she had Surf... Medicham's coverage was also incredibly valuable! Talonflame was painful to deal with, it counters everything I have... Missing a lot of coverage options, but it was enough to win every fight first try, as Pokémon X is not hard at all...

Only 2 gens remain to finish the Ultimate Monotype challenge (unless gen X releases before I'm done xD). Will play Ultra Sun next, when? Hopefully soon, after I finish the post-game of this game!

I decided to start with Ultra Sun, sorry for the double post, but as it is a new run I thought editing the previous post would not be the best... I already beat X's post game, defeated both Serena and Essentia, and caught Mewtwo and Zygarde (didn't feel like going after Articuno). Battles were easy and my team remained the same, just taught Flash Cannon to Lucario as you get the TM at Kiloude City.

1. Alola!

I already played Ultra Sun for 4 hours! But not much to say so far, as this game's beginning is full of cutscenes and the start is quite slow! Besides, you cannot catch a Fighting-type Pokémon until Route 2, which is not precisely at the beginning. For the first time since my gen II run, the starter's evolution was not going to be a Fighting-type! I started with Litten, as like this Hau's Rowlet/Dartrix/Decidueye can be problematic for Fighting-types, and the champion will use Primarina, a very tough Pokémon to deal with as it is part Fairy. Anyways, this is very far away. And for now I am not using Exp. Share, may turn it on at Aether Paradise, I remember it was a decent moment to do so when playing Moon and Ultra Moon.

As I didn't have a single Fighting-type, I cannot say much about the fights against Hau and Captain Ilima, I just used Litten and a Buneary (its Mega evolution is Fighting-type xD) until I reached Route 2, where I finally caught a Makuhita. I wasn't very excited about him, but its Adamant nature means it may stay in the team for the whole game! I went through Route 2 and Hau'oli Cemetery (catching a Murkrow here was a nightmare, btw) with my Makuhita, who levels up very fast (that will change at higher levels, though, with his fluctuating experience growth...) and is quite strong with Silk Scarf-boosted Fake Out and Force Palm!

While checking a guide to see which wild Pokémon were available to me, I accidentally noticed a trainer had a Drifloon. My Makuhita cannot hit it, but thankfully I could go around him... This would have been my first loss had I battled him.

Going through Route 2 I also caught a Crabrawler in a pile of berries, and a Spearow to trade for a Hawlucha at the Pokémon Center. Honestly a Hawlucha with a +Atk nature so early in the game at level 8 seems very broken. At Pokémon X, Hawlucha was my MVP, so I guess he won't be bad here... His -Spe nature should not matter too much in game, but still, he will be much slower than my Naive Hawlucha of Pokémon X. With this Hawlucha I easily handled the preschooler's Drifloon, and I saved the game just before starting the first island trial!

I'm wanting to give this a go. Going to use Crystal Clear if that's allowed?
Absolutely, it's allowed. The one thing I'm going to have to ask first, though, is if it's the older Crystal Clear released in 2016, by Bynine, or the more famous newer Crystal Clear released in 2017, by ShockSlayer?

I'll also need to ask which type you're going to use, and whether you're playing Standard Mode or Free Mode. (The main difference is Legendary restrictions. If you don't plan to use Legendaries, pick Standard Mode. Standard Mode also requires that you not use moves like Camouflage that cause a Pokemon to lose your chosen type, while Free Mode allows them.)

Very big update coming up! I have played a lot in the last couple of days!

2. Relying too much on Hawlucha... And first loss!

Last update was just before the first island trial, and Gumshoos was quite easy for my Fighting-types. Besides, you get TM31 during the trial (Brick Break), so with that Totem Gumshoos fell to 2 attacks.

I caught Mankey at Route 3. I added it to my team, of course. His defenses were terrible, but it is fast and hits hard. After catching him and going after Cosmog at Seaward Cave, I fought Ultra Recon Squad Dulse. Not too hard, as Furfrou is strong but Crabrawler beat it, thankfully it only used Headbutt once, bad AI helped here. Going back to Route 3, you fight Hau. Rowlet was going to beat my Crabrawler, so I had to send Hawlucha and after that the fight was easy.

Next up was the first Kahuna fight, Hala! Fighting vs Fighting! I tried not using Hawlucha, but battle went bad, as his Machop with Revenge destroyed both my Crabrawler and my Makuhita. Mankey finished him off and also beat his Makuhita, who was very annoying with Sand-Attack but eventually went down. However, his Crabrawler beat Mankey, so I had to send Hawlucha to easily finish the fight with Wing Attack!

You get Tauros now, so I went to Ten Carat Hill and caught a Machop there. Don't plan to use it, but he will stay on the team for now.

And after that, I went to the next island after having some fun playing Mantine's surf minigame. And at Heahea City I fought Dexio... who was my first loss! His Mime Jr. was already hard to beat, but the problem was the Espeon with Psybeam. He outsped my whole team, and only Hawlucha could survive it, but he could not ko back, so I lost. This fight is not mandatory to win to keep going, so I didn't have to do it again...

At Paniola Town you fight Hau again. His Dartrix's Z move left Mankey with 2 HP, but with Smack Down and then switching into Hawlucha his bird went down, and after that the fight was straightforward, although his Pikachu's Electro Ball did quite some damage and forced me to switch once.

Next important fight was Gladion at Route 5. Zorua and Type: Null were easy as they are weak to my team, and Zubat with Wing Attack was annoying but as it is quite frail it was not hard to beat.

Next up was Brooklet Hill's Totem Pokémon: Araquanid. And with Bubble boosted by rain, it destroyed my team except for, again, Hawlucha, who took down both Masquerain and Araquanid with Wing Attack. Smack Down from the rest of my team did some damage but not enough! At Brooklet Hill I caught Poliwag, and also added it to my team. Will evolve it into Poliwrath as soon as possible! Need special attackers in the team, and his Modest nature was perfect for that role, although 70 base Sp. Atk is not great...

And well, Route 5 trial guide almost beat me, as his Pokémon were at a high level and were Psychic-types. Slowpoke was already hard to beat, and Mr. Mime would have destroyed me if it had had Confusion or Psybeam instead of Psywave. Makuhita barely beat it.

Finally, I fought Ultra Recon Squad Dulse again at Paniola Ranch, and his Poipole was hard to beat, something I did not expect and that showed that except for Hawlucha, my team is quite weak. With X Defense and then Charm, my Pokémon were doing very little damage, and he also uses healing items, meaning it was a tough battle in which I had to switch my Pokémon a lot!

And that's it! After that, now able to use Lapras, I went back to Melemele to explore with it, and gain some levels for Poliwag. While doing so a trainer's Finneon beat my Mankey despite being 4 levels below because with Attract I didn't attack for 5 turns in a row, and to add salt to the wound Finneon ended the fight with a critical hit! I stopped playing at Royal Avenue, ready to keep going. This game is so much more fun than Pokémon X, in my opinion... My team underwent quite some changes, you can see it below!

Spoiler: Current team

Kahunas defeated: 1.
