Alright, I decided to finally, FINALLY Settle my score against FireRed and Kanto in our grass monotype before I go on to finish the Hoenn challenge. I wasn't able to make an appropriate update post regarding my Kanto grassmono run because of real life duties but I'll be as honest as I can regarding how I went through the process.
Basically, Two Island was my last grinding spot for all of my mons who needed leveling. I eventually got my Parasect Yoonie, Victreebel LittleJenny, and the rest to appropriate levels through endlessly fighting Two Island's Fearows, Golducks, Slowbros, and Persians, who all gave good amounts of EXP when KO'd. Also, the cape island tutor for Venusaur Maplestreet's Frenzy Plant proved to be the best plan of action to settle the challenge once and for all.
And MY GOD, I FINALLY, FINALLY DID IT!
Kanto Grass monotype Finale: VS Elite Four and Champion
To sum up, FireRed Throwback (Modded version of Pokemon FireRed, Game used for our Kanto Grass monotype run) have their Elite Four and Champion at higher levels than regular FRLG.
Vs
Lorelei:
After the bout with Lorelei, I had to use my revives on who got KO'd - Yoonie and LittleJenny.
VS
Bruno
After the hell i went through against Lorelei, we were ready for Bruno, who is a far easier challenge against Lorelei with our team.
After bruno, once again, revives and healing potions where used on our fall gals, Yoonie and Victreebel.
VS Agatha
VS
Lance
- OH DEAR GOD!
I remember getting our ass kicked by him in our initial try. Our team wasn't that level'd the first time facing him. And the creator of FireRed Throwback decided to make him even tougher especially against a team without any Ice Moves. +2 levels over the original FRLG Elite Four is not a joke.
- VS Gyarados. I lead out with Victreebel once again to try stalling him a bit. Lance's Gyarados doesn't have the best moves so he wasn't a threat. Sleep Powder Worked well. He was able to take one hit of Razor Leaf quite nicely as he didn't suffer heavy damage. BUT SUDDENLY Lance withdrew him!
- VS DRAGONITE: HOLY HELL. Why in the world!? Easily he could sweep our entire team while taking NO DAMAGE at all against anyone, but since Lance withdrew his fish to get him out, I had the turn, and I was ready with sleep powder, which actually hit him. With Victrebell's Acids, we used as much acid as we can to chip down Dragonite's HP with whatever damage we could deal, and the last one actually reduced his defense. But as he woke up after taking too many turns, he used Wing Attack and KO'd Victrebell.
- VS Dragonite Part2: Our strategy was ready. MileyDyrus, our pokemon with Reflect and EXPLOSION was sent out to deal with Dragonite. Fortunately, thanks to Exeggcutor's quick claw, he was able to get Reflect as I predicted the Wing Attack. I predicted Wrong as he started using outrage. Knowing that i wouldn't have enough of this beast, i had to do what i had to do. Explosion! Dragonite's defense was reduced earlier so MileyDyrus' took him down with him!
- VS Aerodactyl: Our suffering would continue as Aerodactyl was out. Fortunately Reflect was still up. I had Yoonie to face him since I had no other options left, and I needed to save Maplestreet for the Dragonairs. I needed to find a way to chip down this Aerodactyl. He used wing attack which did not OHKO Yoonie thanks to Reflect being up. Yoonie used Spore to put him to sleep. I decided to sent maplestreet at him and used Frenzy Plant to crush him in one blow.
- VS Dragonair 1: The last of Lance's monsters are two Dragonair's with slightly different movesets. (one has Dragon Rage, the other has Thunder Wave). I had Yoonie fight this first Dragonnaire but i forgot to heal her. This Dragonair was faster than Yoonie and started with Dragon Rage. I fought back with Slash for that crit. (and thanks to Yoonie having the Scope Lens, crits came often). Still Alive, the Dragonair used outrage.
- VS Dragonair 1 part2: Yoonie being down meant that I had to take our Quake Venusaur to fight him. Dragonair continued the Outrage but Maplestreet took it like a man. The dragon was confused and i hit as many earthquakes as I can.
- VS Second Dragonair: Pretty much like the fight with the first dragonair as it also used outrage. i feared that he might KO Maplestreet so i had to heal him with a hyper pot. Eventually, Maplestreet took him down with Earthquake crits.
- VS Gyarados Part2: I remember him being asleep. Maplestreet still had fight in him left, and with Gyarados asleep, Maplestreet was free to use his Frenzy Plant to take him down.
Fighting the FRLG Elite Four who in this version of FireRed, who all have pokemon being two levels higher than the original FRLG E4 meant that a +2 level difference meant a lot of stats. What was mortifying was that the champion, much like the Elite Four in this game, also have pokemon 2 levels higher than the original FRLG!
It all came down with the wire. I had to use every revive, full potion, and ether and elixirs to settle our score with Kirito, whose Charizard gave us so much hell. I also forgot to mention, his Pidgeot has also been a problem against our Kanto Grass team, as well as his Alakazam. The fact that he has 3 pokemon to solidly wreck our team was the reason why i had to train a lot in One, Two, and Three Island.
VS Champion Kirito
I'm running out of stuff to say but dear lord, i was breathless after the battle with Kirito.
VS Pidgeot
VS Alakazam
VS Charizard = Hell on earth!
VS Gyarados
VS Exeggcutor
VS Rhydon
With Kirito finally defeated, in style, we celebrated our final moments with the Kanto grass team.
Let me introduce Mega XinZhao's Kanto Grass monotype champions! Maplestreet, Yoonie, Keekfl, HideinBush, LittleJenny and MileyDyrus!!

Spoiler:
- MapleStreet (Venusaur) vs Dewgong = I remember in my first attempts at battling Lorelei, none of her Pokemon would fall to one Razor Leaf to our strongest member, so that Frenzy Plant move from the cape island tutor was invaluable at making sure that we could quickly smash Lorelei's team. One Frenzy Plant was needed for Dewgong.
- VS Slowbro - He was sent out next. Rather than deal with the Frenzy Plant recharge penalty, Maplestreet was withdrewn. LittleJenny, our Victrebel was sent out next. Slowbro has amazing Physical def so Victrebel's razor leafs were needed to take him down. Slowbro fought well with whatever he threw, but he didn't try using Ice Beam for some reason. Eventually, he was taken down with more Razor Leafs.
- Lapras was sent out next. Maplestreet came back with a Frenzy Plant ready to take her out with one good shot. Maplestreet's level was high enough to do so. Once again, Maplestreet was withdrawn to not suffer the penalty to what came out next.
- VS Jynx. Dear lord, Lorelei's Jynx was the most annoying in her team. She kept using Lovely Kiss with near perfect accuracy to screw up our team. I called in Yoonie, our Parasect with her own SleepHax to deal with this thing but Jynx was too fast. Despite my efforts to wake up Yoonie with the PokeFlute, Jynx kept using Lovely kiss and Ice Punch. Yoonie managed to land a few hits in the turns were Jynx didn't use her Kiss but to no avail. Ice Punch on STAB is too stronk.
- VS Jynx Part2: Jynx wounded in her bout against Yoonie still kept going with her lovely kisses on our Victrebell and managed to take her down effortlessly. Sleep Clause does not exist.
- VS Jynx Part3: MapleStreet, our strongest member had to comeback. As I didn't want to waste any Frenzy Plant's PP, Maplestreet fought with Earthquakes and Razor Leafs. And at the lucky moment, Jynx missed her Lovely kiss and fell to the last Earthquake coming from Maplestreet.
- VS Cloyster: The last mon on Lorelei's team but sadly not having the moves to revenge kill anyone. One Razor Leaf was needed to take it down.
After the hell i went through against Lorelei, we were ready for Bruno, who is a far easier challenge against Lorelei with our team.
Spoiler:
- VS First Onix - Victreebel was needed. One Razor leaf to take it down. Maybe i should have used our Vileplume instead.
- VS Hitmonchan: This is where the fun came. Yoonie, our Parasect and her hax Spore, was needed for this guy. I made sure to sleep him first since Bruno's FireRed Throwback's Hitmonchan is a lot smarter than the original FRLG games. Mainly, if he isn't KO'd by a super-effective physical attack, he'll comeback with COUNTER, which i didn't want to happen. Used Spore and some Aerial Aces and Slashes to take him down.
- VS Machamp: Bruno sent him out a little too Early, but for some reason, he actually fought back hard. After using more of Yoonie's Spore to great effect, suddenly he ate his Sitrus berry to recover the health he lost, woke up, then used Rock Tomb on Yoonie, which reduced her already slow speed. It also hit Yoonie hard enough to suffer into critical health. After surviving the Rock Tomb, i tried to use Spore once again, but Machamp already outspeed Yoonie and Cross Chopped her head off. It came to my knowledge that upon being put to sleep, Machamp's passive abililty Guts activated, which gave him a huge damage boost that gave him the power to KO Yoonie despite the type resistance to fighting.
- VS MachampPart2: I tried sending out Victreebell to put some sleep powder on him, since i felt lucky that my Sleep Powder's would hit but nope. Rock Tomb KO'd her the moment it hit. She didn't have enough health to take the hit.
- VS MachampPart3: I decided that i wanted to finish this now, so MileyDyrus, the naughty exegguctor was called. One Psychic for the revenge kill.
- VS Hitmonlee: More psychic. Just one was needed though. MileyDyrus is too strong her him.
- VS Second Onix: Bruno's last mon would be his second rock worm, which for some reason i just wanted to make fun of him by sending out our UNDERLEVELED Tangela to dance with him. The Onix resulted to spamming Double Edge to take advantage of his Rock Head Passive. Eventually, 3 Mega Drains was needed for our level40 Tangela to take down this lvl56Onix

![[PokeCommunity.com] The Monotype Challenge [PokeCommunity.com] The Monotype Challenge](https://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/56/Spr_FRLG_Agatha.png)
Spoiler:
- VS Gengar1: Agatha's FRLG Gengar is well known for being SUPER annoying with Double Team Toxic Stall tricks. I put Yoonie in the lead to deal with this thing since she had Aerial Ace. The first gengar fell after 2 Aerial Aces (which the last one crit). Yoonie was withdrawn to make way for MapleStreet.
- VS Arbok: I decided to not waste any of MileyDyrus's Psychic PP as it was needed for the other Gengar. MapleStreet was there to quake Arbok. It Crit'd.
- VS Golbat: BAAATTTSSS!!! Ok, unlike Crobats Golbat has weaker stats, and MileyDyrus and his Psychic was needed to nuke it down. He did use Bite first, which didn't hit our tree for that much damage.
- VS Gengar2: Agatha's second gengar is at level 60, quite terrifying. I felt confident that MileyDyrus could take him down but nope. He kept using Hypnosis. he was also using Shadow Ball and Sludge Bomb, which unlike in today's generation, are physical moves, and Gengar's inferior attack had to make whatever use of them. Lucky for us I guess. Eventually, one Psychic was needed to finally beat him.
- VS Haunter: I decided to have fun with this guy, who is known for using Mean Look, Curse, Hypnosis, and Dream Eater. Basically he has no readily available moves to deal damage. I sent Yoonie in to Aerial Ace him down. He used Curse to reduce his own HP to half. yoonie used Aerial Ace and struck with a critical hit.

I'm running out of stuff to say but dear lord, i was breathless after the battle with Kirito.
VS Pidgeot
Spoiler:
- This bird has been a problem against our Kanto Grass team for a while. I had our Parasect to face it.
- it used Featherdance which greatly crippled Yoonie's attack. I fought back with Spore.
- Slashes were used for the off chance that a crit would come. No avail. But i held on and kept slashing and slashing.
- Pidgeot Woke up and used Aerial Ace which dealt great damage to Yoonie. It left her with very little health left.
- Switched to Exeggcutor to use Psychic against Pidgeot. After Yoonie's efforts in chipping him down, it worked.

VS Alakazam
Spoiler:
My option for Alakazam was to use Yoonie after I healed her with a Full Restore. He Smartly used his speed to get Reflect Up
- Yoonie used Slash, no crit. The damage was greatly reduced.
- Alakazam used Psychic and dealt tons of damage. Yoonie survived with little health. Fought back with another slash
- Yoonie was too slow to keep up with Alakazam. I had to withdraw her for Maplestreet.
- Maplestreet took Psychic like a man. Fought back with Frenzy Plant to OHKO Alakazam with it.
- Yoonie used Slash, no crit. The damage was greatly reduced.

VS Charizard = Hell on earth!
Spoiler:
- I only had one choice for this beast. Pray that Exeggcutor's Quick Claw worked and instantly vaporize him with Explosion as what happened before Kirito's rise to be the champion, or sacrifice whatever mon i have who will not take down the last three after him. I went with option 2.
- Vileplume was sent out first as a sacrificial lamb for Charizard's Fire blast
- Victrebell came in next. Unfortunately, Charizard still used more Fire Blast
- It came down to the wire with the last sacrificial lamb before Exeggcutor, our underleveled Tangela.
- Charizard for some reason, rather than use Aerial Ace or even a Slash, played around with Fire Spin, IT MISSED! Tangela used Sleep Powder
- Switched to MileyDyrus. Charizard is sleeping, Kirito doesn't bother using any Full Heals. EXPLOSION!

VS Gyarados
Spoiler:
- I sent out Yoonie to deal with him. I used a full restore since she was wounded after fighting Alakazam
- Gyarados used Thrash. It was dealing a lot of damage against Yoonie thanks to the fish's huge base attack. Spored him
- I chipped his health down with Slashes and Aerial Ace. He was surprisingly bulky as well.
- I switched in to MapleStreet to knock Gyarados out with a Frenzy Plant. It worked.

Spoiler:
- Kirito was running out of options. Exeggcutor didn't have the best moves on his roster. He was busy stalling with Sleep Powder and hitting Maplestreet with Eggs. I switched out Maplestreet with Yoonie since Earthquakes weren't dealing any damage to him
- Yoonie still took those eggs like a man but she has Aerial Ace to for some super effective damage.

VS Rhydon
Spoiler:
- Oh, he's back from the Lighting monotype challenge? Nope. Spored by Yoonie
-
-My Lightning Monotype challenge of the past week ended with Rhydon almost giving us hell, our Kanto Grass monotype challenge ended with him knowing the inevitable. Victory was OURS!

Let me introduce Mega XinZhao's Kanto Grass monotype champions! Maplestreet, Yoonie, Keekfl, HideinBush, LittleJenny and MileyDyrus!!
Final Movesets, levels, and thoughts
Spoiler:
Maplestreet, the Male Quiet Venusaur: Level 66
Overgrow
held item: Miracle Seed
Razor Leaf, Earthquake, Growth, Frenzy Plant
= Easily our team's highest leveled Pokemon. He was needed to get as fat as possible to carry the whole team on his back. Miracle Seed enabled his Frenzy Plant to deal enough increased damage to one-shot the likes of Gyarados and Aerodactyl, who's part flying type made Grass type moves neutral damage.
Yoonie, the Female Relaxed Parasect; Level 61
Spore Effect
held item: Scope Lens
Slash, Aerial Ace, Leech Life (lol), Spore
= She could have been our team's second best pokemon as the physical brawler, a type of damage our team desperately needed, with sleephax Spore. But her horrible Nature made Parasect's already low base speed even lower. Spore was the move that made her a valuable asset against the most threatening of monsters (especially Pidgeot).
MileyDyrus, the Naughty male Exeggcutor, level 57
Chlorophyll
held item: Quick Claw
Psychic, Sleep Powder, Reflect, Explosion
= He was obviously the late game MVP for a couple of reasons: He was the poison slayer with Psychic, he has the move to hit most other pokemon that are not Psychic resistant or immune the hardest, and his Reflect saved the likes of Yoonie and the rest. His highlight was Explosion, a move that i never thought was useful until I realized that Explosion deals so much base power that it can remove threats as soon as possible. Dragonite and Charizard, two of our most challenging opponents were victims of MileyDyrus' antics.
ALittleJenny, the Careful female Victreebel, level 54
held item: None
Acid, Razor Leaf, Sleep powder, Toxic
= She was our team's secondary damage dealer and support. She found her calling after a few levels and was able to go toe to toe with some monsters from the Elite Four. I also liked how she has a lot of damage with poison on STAB and her unusually high base attack helped. If the Sludge Bomb TM would be obtainable earlier before the Elite Four, she would have been a beast that shined and tore through ranks. I was happy working with her. I'm also a big fan of the Bellsprout pokemon family and Victreebel happens to be one of my favorite grass types.
Keefkl, the Docile female Vileplume, level 44
held item: none
Acid, Sleep Powder, Poison Powder, Petal Dance
= To be honest, if i had the time to make her the team's battery for Sunny Day (and activate the passives), she would have been a great support. But I lost the patience to raise her, knowing that I've had enough of playing FireRed and Kanto. She was there in the times she was needed to tackle weaker threats and her sacrificial baits to some big threats such as Charizard was needed to complete the run.
HideinBush, the BRAVE Tangela, level 40
Growth, Sleep Powder, Secret Power, Mega Drain
= BRAVE IS RIGHT. Along with the best ever nickname that could be given to a pokemon, he was the 6th hour ranger who once again helped defeat a big threat. While his use may have been short, he was still there to offer help. I call him one of the Lucky Rangers (along with Goldenboy, the lucky Electrode from our Lighting monotype run)
All in all, my grass monotype run could have been better have i gotten Pokemon with better natures. I was inhibited from completely owning our foes for that. Natures that hinder a pokemon's speed is already a bad choice in most scenarios, especially to those pokemon that are slow to begin with, Parasect for example. The reason why I was some how annoyed with playing this team was that all of them didn't have the natures that i wanted. Breeding may have helped but that's not even accessible before the E4 and champion in FRLG.
With Kanto officially conqured, our Tri-Regional Grass monotype run with Hoenn (Emerald) will be continued and Johto (Crystal) can now officially begin!
Overgrow
held item: Miracle Seed
