Screw hau's raichu, i set up sunny day and smashed everything with a hella strong Lava plume from Magmar got a burn on slowbro which eventually went down, bruxish was next and it KOd magmar and then KOd raichu who decided to psychic it. brought in marowak which got hit hard with crunch and hau's decidueye finished it. hypno was the final poke, KOd marowak and took a spirit shackle from hau's decidueye. brought in Torkoal and a 2nd Spirit Shackle finished it.
smashed through some skull grunts, got to Guzma
vS Ya Boi
hoped magmar could hit hard enough with lava plume to trigger emergency exit, but nope then Razor Shell OHKO. then oricorio came in and air slashed it to death, masquerain tried to bug buzz and died to a straight OHKO from Revelation dance, Revelation dance OHKOd ariados after a sucker punch hit me, finally came Pinsir which died to air slash> revelation dance
went on further and fought Lusamine
VS Lusamine
clefable and magmar had a hard hitting match before she switched for milotic, i switched for torkoal, dodged a hydro pump, blocked a 2nd with protect, dodged a 3rd and got amnesia up, baited another with protect, took a final hit and got another amnesia up, got a burn off flamethrower and started hitting body slams and tanking its flails easy. finally KOd it, then she sent in mismagius, incineroar took a power gem and slammed darkest lariat to OHKO. lilligant was next and it hit teeter dance, then oricorio's dancer hit teeter dance back but own tempo did nothing, the 2nd hit broke out of confusion and OHKOd with revelation dance. clefable came in and died to a revelation dance. and finally bewear took an air slash, got flinched and a 2nd air slash took it down.

Went on to seafolk village, grabbed a Magmarizer, traded with a friend to evolve to Magmortar then took it back and stopped.

- Trained Glassworm up to 19 and kicked down the gym door.
- Glassworm FINALLY evolved into a damn Wormadam on the last gym trainer, but before Gardenia...
- IT'S TIME FOR ANOTHER ROUND OF... WHAT'S YOUR HIDDEN POWER??? Today's contestant: Glassworm the Wormadam-Trash! Let's see what we can find today... - Well that was useless. I mean, HP Grass hits Ground, which is nice, but it isn't helpful against an overlevelled as hell Grass/Poison Type. At least in my Grass mono Wormadam got HP Ice. Oh well. Tackle spam it is.
- So fun fact: Sinnoh's level curve is arguably more wonky than Johto's. While Johto's is just Bad, Sinnoh is fine minus the five level jumps between Leaders and their minions.

- Got the TM for Bullet Seed, which would be useful if I had anything that could learn it
- Dracus learned Smokescreen, perhaps it'll be useful for stopping Misty?

- Got through Mt. Moon successfully!
- Allowed Dracus to learn Mega Punch on Route 4, which is vital for beating Misty.
- Defeated Hydro (third time!)

- OK, Misty was really tough, it took me at least 11 tries to beat her. So let's talk about her! I came into this battle with Dracus at level 25, but eventually I used two Rare Candies that I had to bring him up to 27. Either way, it takes two-three Water Pulses to bring Dracus down at this level, so Staryu is a non-issue. However, Starmie is fast and can hit hard. The best move for hitting Starmie was Mega Punch, but I initially found that it didn't do enough. I needed a way to make Mega Punch at least a 2HKO. You can't buy X Items yet, otherwise I would've bought two X Attacks and called it a day. So I settled on going for the luck based strategy of using Metal Claw on Staryu to get an Attack boost. Many things could go wrong; Charmeleon can at most only handle two Water Pulses, so if I came into Starmie with low HP I'd be finished. Furthermore, at level 25, Dracus was getting outsped, at 27, he only managed to tie with Starmie. This means that
I could just get outsped when trying to finish Starmie. Of course, there's the problem of Staryu wearing me down during the initial Metal Claw spam, among other things...

TL;DR: this was a pain in the rear. (And no, Smokescreen didn't help at all since Water Pulse and Swift can't miss.)

But I did it. I beat Misty!

Maybe I'll get a new party member soon... right now, it's just a Charmeleon solo.

- Made it to Vermillion City! I'm not doing Lt. Surge just yet. At this point, I'm avoiding trainers to keep Charmeleon from becoming super overleveled.

- Beat Hydro (4th time!)

- Got Cut, and taught it to an HM slave.
- Got a Bike!

- Entered Rock Tunnel, which I have to do flashless.

Here comes a very big update!

The Ultimate Monotype Challenge!

3. Pokémon Sigma Σmerald Fighting Monotype update No. 7!

It took me so long, but at last!!

Grinding everyone up to level 70 for the E4 rematches (they have lv 70+ Pokémon in this hack) has been a nightmare. It was done with rematches at Route 117, where trainers had lv 47-51 Pokémon, and the Pokémon Breeders gave a lot of experience. After this, I went to challenge the E4 again...

First up was Sidney. Sharpedo Vs. Breloom. He hit me with Poison Fang, and I got poisoned, but Seed Bomb destroyed it. He sent Tyranitar, and with Drain Punch I healed the damage Sharpedo made while beating it! Hitmontop, with Fake Out + Brick Break, defeated Absol, and with Protect to get the Speed Boost and Flamethrower, Blaziken took Shiftry down. Finally, after flinching due to Needle Arm, Hariyama beat Cacturne with a single Brick Break.

Next up was Phoebe! 2 Knock Off from Hariyama defeated the Dusclops, who used Future Sight. Blaziken suffered to beat Banette due to Psychic and the Future Sight attack, but with 2 Flamethrowers after the heal he got the job done. Breloom had to suffer a Thunder Wave and a Pain Split from Misdreavus, but 2 Seed Bombs were enough to take it down. 3 Knock Off from Hariyama beat Dusclops, and with 2 Surfs, even after the Berry heal, Poliwrath defeated Sableye. Her final Pokémon was, of course, a Gengar! She outsped and beat Medicham with Shadow Ball, and Blaziken also fell despite the Protect + Overheat almost beating it. Hariyama came out and with 2 Knock Off (the second with Quick Claw helping!) beat Gengar after the heal.

Glacia was next, and it started badly... Lapras survived Seed Bomb with almost nothing and beat Breloom with Ice Beam.

Medicham avenged Breloom beating Lapras with Hi Jump Kick after the heal. Blaziken, with Protect + Flamethrower, destroyed Jynx, and after Jynx a Cloyster came and it could not survive my Overheat. With Hi Jump Kick again, Medicham beat Walrein. Hariyama needed a few Brick Breaks due to Glalie using Protect every time, but in the end she took it down. Finally, Hitmontop defeated Dewgong with Fake Out and a Critical Brick Break.

Next up was Drake, who was a nigthmare the first time I faced him and I expected this one to be no different... and I wasn't wrong. He sent Altaria Vs. my Poliwrath, and hit me with Moonblast. My Ice Beam didn't kill, and he healed. I was then very lucky! Ice Beam froze Altaria and Poliwrath beat it with 2 Ice Beams. Moxie Salamence was next. Hariyama, with Fake Out + Rock Tomb, slowed it down before falling to Aerial Ace, and then Medicham outsped and beat it with Ice Punch. He sent Kingdra. With Yawn he forced me to switch a lot, and in one of the switches he destroyed Breloom with Ice Beam. I kept using Hitmontop and Brick Break, weakening him, but then... he switched out and sent... ANOTHER SALAMENCE!!!!! A lv 75 one, and again with Moxie. He proceeded, without missing a single attack, to sweep my whole team with Dragon Rush, Aqua Tail and Zen Headbutt. I was in shock and didn't react, so I lost...

I'll try again soon and my next update will focus on that!

I started my challenge a couple of days ago.

I'm starting with Monotype Ground on Leaf Green.

Part 1:

There are no Ground starters in this game, so I picked Bulbasaur as my starter.
He's good against Brock, and that forces my rival to take Charmander, which will be nice down the road. Within the first hour, I had beaten Brock and picked up my first three Ground-type Pokemon. I'm using Game of Thrones as my naming theme for this run. My Nidoran (F) was named Needle. My Nidoran (M) was named KingSlayer. My Geodude (F) was named Greyjoy.

About an hour later, I was able to collect my two Moon Stones, exit Mt. Moon, and grab a Sandshrew on my way to Cerulean City. I named my Sandshrew (F) Sansa. On the way to Bill's house, I was able to evolve Needle & KingSlayer into Nidoqueen & Nidoking. Then, I got majorly walled. Misty's gym was even harder than I remember. Starmie is just too fast. I had to run around and fight all the trainers I could reach before coming back to fight her again. I also picked up a Diglett (F) that I named Lil'Finger along the way. Even when my party was at Lv. 21, Starmie was too tough.

I slept on it, and I came up with a solution this morning. Dugtrio is blazing fast, and the party hadn't been disobedient so far, dispite being over level 20 (which I thought was the cutoff). So I went to Diglett's tunnel and trained up Lil'Finger until she evolved. The plan worked, but just barely. Misty wiped me on my first attempt with Dugtrio leading, but we had good luck with Magnitude on the second attempt. Lil'Finger swept her, and we're ready to proceed on to Lt. Surge.

Update 4

Spoiler:

- Headed over to Celadon to get Eevee and pick up two Fire Stones in preparation for later.
- Obtained Roy the Eevee!

- Got the Fly HM in preparation to head back to Vermilion City.
- Shared the Tea with the guards to make it easier to head back to Vermilion.
- Made it back to Vermilion, and began the process of defeating trainers I purposely avoided in order to level Valle up.
- Evolved Roy the Eevee into Flareon after considering that there's no other moves I really want from Eevee.

- Taught Roy Dig in preparation for the Vermilion Gym.
- Got the VS Seeker (can't believe I forgot this before.)
- Defeated Lt. Surge! Quite easy since I taught Roy Dig.

I guess we'll start Lavender Town/Celadon City for real? I forget, I kinda muddled up the way I'd usually play FRLG. Also a shorter update because the next ones will probably be longer.

Update 5

Spoiler:

- Explored Diglett's Tunnel to get to Route 2 to check if I'm eligible for the Flash HM. I should've done this before but hey, better late than never, right? Oh yeah this place is hell because of freakin' Arena Trap.
Yeah... this was not a fun time. (Just kidding, I used Repels)
- To get Flash, I needed 10 species registered as "caught" in my Pokedex, and so far I had 8... So, uh, I went and caught two more, just to bump up that count to 10. I don't even know why I want Flash, but I got it. Time to fly over to Lavender Town!
- Why can Bellsprout learn Flash, but not any of my Fire types?
- Went back to Rock Tunnel and surrounding areas so Valle and Roy can gain some EXP.
- In the middle of Rock Tunnel, though, I remember that I'm allowed to trade in version exclusives, which means I could get the much more hard hitting Growlithe/Arcanine. I quickly scramble out of the Rock Tunnel and switch to a FireRed that I completed the entire game on normally, and trade it to LeafGreen. This also makes me realize that I could've had a second party member MUCH MUCH sooner... ugh.
Anyways... welcome to the team, Kamui!

So, let's talk about Growlithe and Vulpix and their differences. Vulpix doesn't hit very hard and its HP is low and it can't really take hits. However, it has good moves in Confuse Ray and Will-o-Wisp and the speed to use them. Growlithe can hit hard and is fast, so while I would just drop Valle there's only one issue: Growlithe doesn't get Flamethrower until level 49, Vulpix gets Flamethrower at level 29. I don't want to evolve either of these without a decent Fire-type move. So there's a chance that Growlithe could get outclassed unless I pick up the Flamethrower TM from the Game Corner (good luck with that!)
I'll use them both for now and see what happens...
- With that, I return to training in Lavender Town, Rock Tunnel and their surrounding areas. Eventually, I come to a point where all of the trainers I skipped when only Charmeleon/Charizard
was in my party are defeated. It's time to head into the Pokemon Tower for the first time! I meet up with Hydro, and...
- Defeated him for the fifth time!

- During our battles with the possessed Channelers, Valle learned Flamethrower. With that, I decided to evolve her into Ninetales now.

- I soon reach a dilemma: right now, only traded Pokemon up to level 30 will obey me. Kamui's quickly reaching that point. Good thing we're going to Celadon soon, eh?
- We meet up with a ghost (Marowak) that won't let us pass, because we need the Silph Scope. Time to go to Celadon!
- In Celadon, I waste no time and make a beeline for the gym. I don't want Kamui to start disobeying me. This almost makes me reconsider going inside the gym, though...

- Defeated Erika! She's objectively the easiest gym leader in this run; Just click Flamethrower/Ember to win.

Up next, we take on Team Rocket.

3. Pokémon Sigma Σmerald Fighting Monotype update No. 8!

If you read my previous update, you'll see my team fell to Drake in the E4 rematches. I prepared better for the battles (still no Battle Items like X Attack, I like winning with my Pokémon moves!) I grinded everyone up to lv 73 (the Salamence that beat me was lv 75), and took the E4 challenge again. Not going to talk here about Sidney, Phoebe and Glacia, they went pretty smoothly, a remarkable moment was that with the 3 levels he has gained Blaziken beat Gengar with a single Overheat, so I didn't rely on Quick Claw with Hariyama this time. So I arrived at Drake again! I taught Blaziken Rock Tomb for the battle, to slow down his Pokémon just in case Hariyama couldn't do it. With Protect and Speed Boost, he will outspeed Drake's whole team. Well, time to have my REVENGE!

The battle started very well! Medicham beat both Altaria and one of the Salamences with Ice Punch, she outsped both and destroyed them with Ice Punch! Kingdra was next, and the same thing as the last time happened. After taking 2 Brick Breaks from Hitmontop, he switched out to Salamence, the strong one. I sent Hariyama and was lucky because Zen Headbutt missed. Before falling, Hariyama slowed it down with Rock Tomb, allowing Medicham to beat it with Ice Punch... So I got past the moment that made me fall last time! We go on! Kingdra came back, but he was weakened. He used Dragon Pulse but didn't defeat Medicham, and with Zen Headbutt, it was taken down. Flygon was next, and he was easy for Poliwrath, because he did little damage. After 2 heals, 2 Ice Beams were enough. And time for his last Pokémon, Dragonite!! Blaziken fell to 2 Outrages but slowed it down and also weakened it with Rock Tomb and Overhead (with a crit from the former). With him slowed down, Poliwrath finished it off with Ice Beam! So I beat Drake!

But of course this was not over, Wallace was waiting! I didn't make the same mistake like last time, I knew it was Wallace and not Steven, and therefore equipped a Magnet to Medicham and sent Breloom first to beat Wailord with Seed Bomb. The Wailord was lv 78, so yeah, high levels here! And he sent a Lv 80!!! Milotic I tried to beat it with Medi but he was faster and survived the ThunderPunch. I had to sent Poli, who was not afraid of any of his attacks, only Toxic, which made me heal once. Little by little, he fell to a few Brick Breaks. Team work was used to beat Ludicolo! A few Brick Breaks from Hariyama, who took a lot of damage from Surf, were not enough, so I sent Poliwrath to take Surf with Water Absorb, and then Blaziken to take the predicted Grass attack (Energy Ball). Protect + Overheat (he was weakened) and bye bye Ludicolo! Whiscash was a pushover (why does he have it?), a Seed Bomb from Breloom was enough to beat it. And again, Hitmontop Vs. Tentacruel like last time! This time it was much easier, I survived comfortably the Hydro Pump + Toxic combination and beat it with Earthquake. You can compare!

Gyarados was his final Pokémon and had to face my whole alive team to win. Medicham took it down with 2 ThunderPunches after an Icy Wind (lol), a couple of heals, and a desperate attempt to set up Dragon Dance. So I AM THE CHAMPION (again)!!

And finally, the last battle of the game, Steven. I was curious to see the levels in this hack, I thought he was going to have lv 90 Pokémon or something, but he didn't, he was in fact weaker than Wallace, and with Fighting-types the battle was extremely easy!

Blaziken beat Skarmory with a single Flamethrower, and Breloom did the same with Aggron with Drain Punch. Medicham came and destroyed his Cradily with Hi Jump Kick. His most troublesome Pokémon was Claydol, who used Reflect, and hit Breloom with Psychic, leaving her with 23 HP, but 2 Seed Bombs defeated it. Metagross (lv 79) was taken down by Blaziken. He attempted to use Earthquake but I had used Protect, and after that a single Overheat beat it. Finally, Poliwrath beat Armaldo with 2 Surfs, surviving a weak Crush Claw first. Sadly, I forgot to take a picture from this battle... But yeah, challenge complete!!

I am having very long challenges, HeartGold was very long and this one was too. The grinding for the E4 rematches has been a nightmare, thankfully VBA-M makes things go much faster. The final in-game time was 78:39 (in HeartGold I checked it and it was 78:32 xD), but with the speed-up button it was much less than that. I have to say that again my Fighting-type team has lacked Speed, and that was problematic in a few battles. It was cool that the TM you get in the first gym, Rock Tomb, was so useful in important battles. The mechanics of reusable TMs of the hack helped me a lot. Time to talk about the team!

Blaziken was my starter and a solid member throughout the whole game. His Blaze Kick and Sky Uppercut have missed quite a lot, so I ended up using Flamethrower and Brick Break! His Overheat has been insanely powerful and has helped me take down some very strong and sturdy opponents. With Speed Boost, he was also the fastest in the team, and this helped also against fast opponent thanks to the use of Protect.

Breloom, in my opinion, has been the best Pokémon in the run. She didn't have the best coverage moves, being unable to hit Poison and Bug-types, but he helped me catch a lot of Pokémon with Stun Spore, her priority with Mach Punch was pretty nice, and most importantly, she was extremely strong, the strongest Pokémon in the team with cool moves like Drain Punch, Bullet Seed and Seed Bomb throughout the game.

Hariyama arrived at the team much earlier than in HeartGold, so I enjoyed her a lot more. She was very bulky, and despite being slow, with the Quick Claw and key moves like Knock Off and Rock Tomb, she remained helpful during the whole game.

Ah... Poliwrath again in my team! Very useful for HMs, I prefered having her than a HM Slave. Her Water attacks has been useful during the whole game, and Ice Beam was important in some battles as well. She was also very hard to take down with Water-types, something Wallace's Milotic suffered!

And Hitmontop rounded the circle! I had Hitmonlee in Yellow, and Hitmonchan in HeartGold, so it was Hitmontop's turn to shine! He was quite weak but did pretty well thanks to balanced stats and Intimidate. His moves like Fake Out, Brick Break or Earthquake have been helpful and put to good use. So yeah, pretty happy with this Pokémon!

And finally, a powerhouse, the last Pokémon to join the team, Medicham! His moveset was amazing and easy to teach with Heart Scales. BoltBeam coverage and 2 great and powerful STAB moves, what more could I ask for? A bit more of Speed maybe, but Hariyama did that job for him with Rock Tomb. Medicham has been pretty important, his Hi Jump Kick (when it doesn't miss!) is insane, and with his coverage and power he has beaten many important Pokémon, like some of Drake's dragons!

So that's it! Quite a cool run, not as fun as the HeartGold one in my opinion, but close to it, which is great! I am quite happy with how things are going, really enjoying Fighting-types, they are making me think a lot, I recommend this type to everyone! Next up will be Platinum! Here is the final team, without spoiler, of course, it's the final update and they deserve to be seen!

- Start off by obtaining the Coin Case from the man who lost it all at the slots. I won't be losing it all at the slots though, because I know a trick. See this slot machine?

We're going to mash A until things happen. Things like this:

Eventually, through lots of mashing, I have enough to buy a single Flamethrower TM...

Now, here's my dilemma: Who do I give Flamethrower to? Growlithe and Flareon both eventually learn it... but Flareon doesn't have any STAB right now. And the next time it gets some, it's Fire Spin of all things.
It's settled, this TM goes to Roy.
- With that button mashing over, I go and fight Team Rocket in their hideout. And discovered that we're *really* overleveled for this. Whoops.
- Giovanni is fairly easy until he sends out Kangashkan and I discover that Flamethrower doesn't really do as much. Valle gets knocked out, but not before burning and confusing it to make things much, much easier.
- Roy finishes off the Kangashkan and we've defeated Giovanni!

- Got the Silph Scope! To Lavender Town!
- This time, we're able to identify the ghost that wouldn't let us pass. None of my Fire-types except my Charizard has any business against a Ground-type, so Dracus comes out and easily defeats--er, I mean "calms" Marowak's spirit.
- We easily defeat all of the Team Rocket members on the top floor and rescue Fuji, who gives us the Poke Flute. This means we can go to Fuchsia City now.
- I decide to take the scenic Route 12-13-14-15 path to Fuchsia City. (We'll go back and do Cycling Road later, of course.) Kamui uses Roar on the sleeping Snorlax, making it go away. The reason why I don't defeat it instead is because Thick Fat would make it take too long. I make it to Fuchsia City with relative ease. But I leave no stone unturned, so I return to Routes 15 and 14 and defeat the trainers I missed. But considering my levels, I don't defeat all of them and even decide to leave Cycling Path alone for now--perhaps they'll be useful for grinding future team members. I, instead, decide to go to the Safari Zone and pick up the Surf HM first.
- Got the Surf HM and the Gold Teeth on my first Safari Zone try--super proud of myself! The Warden, of course, gets his teeth back.
- Took on the Fuchsia City gym and defeated Koga!

- But this update isn't over yet. We're going to go defeat Team Rocket again and defeat Sabrina.
- We storm Silph Co. and liberate it from Team Rocket. On our way through, we meet Hydro who's also here and seemingly doesn't care that Team Rocket's here--he only showed up because I'm here. Whatever...
- Defeated Hydro (6th time!) And apparently he does kind of care.

- Got Lapras, who we will be surfing on later.
- And finally, we've defeated Giovanni and gave Team Rocket the boot!

- For our efforts, the President of Silph Co. gives us a Master Ball, which I'll promptly never use because I hate Master Balls. There's one more thing left in Saffron City: Sabrina. Oh and the dojo I guess. Wait, that's two things...
- But before Sabrina, we first take on the Dojo, which is made really easy thanks to Charizard. We don't take Hitmonchan nor Hitmonlee-- they aren't Fire-types, ew.
- NOW we take on the Saffron Gym.
- Defeated Sabrina! She was easy too, although Alakazam got two Calm Mind boosts and began to be troublesome. Luckily, Dracus was able to knock it out before I got swept or something.

Now we just have to go to Cinnabar and beat Blaine. Maybe get new party members next? I dunno.

The Vermillion Gym was a joke. Sansa cleared out the smaller trainers and evolved into Sandslash. Then, Greyjoy swept Lt. Surge's team. Greyjoy also evolved into Graveler in the Rock Tunnel. Unfortunately, I don't have a means to evolve her all the way into Golem, so she'll probably be swapped out for a Rhyhorn/Rhydon eventually. That makes me kinda sad, because she's wracked up the most KOs in rival battles & gym battles so far.

The Celadon Gym took a bit more patience, but after a couple of tries, we got our badge. Needle & KingSlayer couldn't be hit for super effective damage, the way the rest of the team could. Needle's Body Slam was useful for paralyzing and eventually beating Victreebell. I also taught Aerial Ace to Lil'Finger, which allowed her to beat Tangela. KingSlayer had a tough fight with Vileplume, but he struggled through being confused and paralyzed for most of the fight, and eventually Thrashed his way to victory.

The Rocket Base was easy enough, but it was long and boring. This is my third time fighting through a Rocket Base this month. We got the Silph Scope and moved on to Pokemon Tower. I'm currently hunting for a Cubone with a Thick Club. I've caught about a dozen of them so far, but still no luck finding the Thick Club. Maybe it's dumb to waste this much time looking for it, but I really want to see what it's like to have a Marowak with a Thick Club on the team.

Mari | Pokemon Crystal

Normally I update before this but I haven't been on the computer. For the most part I'm sticking with Johto Pokemon with the exception of the Igglybuff that I got from the Odd Egg (for being Shiny haha). Everything has been pretty smooth so far! I'm actually in Mahogany Town right now fighting Team Rocket rather than going and beating the Cianwood City gym. Figured going and beating the ice gym would be easier than fighting the steel and fighting gyms so I'll backtrack and do those after. Yay for GSC not being so streamlined.

One thing I am doing is holding off on training Igglybuff until it's friendship is higher from running around and grooming. There's a move that I want as Jigglypuff by level 14 so don't want it to get any higher than that. Thus why it's still so low leveled.

- We fly back to Pallet Town after getting Lapras from the PC and teaching it Surf and begin our trek to Cinnabar Island.
- It's not very hard to make it to Cinnabar Island, and so we do. But the gym's locked, which means we have to go to Pokemon Mansion...
- Exploring the mansion, we eventually make it to the bottom floor and collect the Secret Key that's required to enter the gym without issue.
- Defeated Blaine! Most of his team was made short work of except for Arcanine, who gave me a little trouble but nothing that I couldn't handle.

- As soon as we step outside, Bill is here to take us to the Sevii Islands. I heard that we can find more Fire-types there, so I'm all for it! I agree to go with him to One Island immediately.
- Here on One Island, Bill introduces us to his friend Celio and gives us some errands to run. It's worth noting that if you didn't get a Town Map from Daisy, Celio gives you a Town Map here.
- We ain't goin' to Two Island just yet, though. We've got some exploring to do! To Kindle Road!
- Out on Kindle Road, we find a potential party member: Ponyta. I catch it, although I'm not sure about using it since there are two other Fire types we can find here and one of them is pretty darn good.

- Moving on to Mt. Ember after avoiding all trainers, I seek out a rare encounter here. Eventually, we find it: it's Magmar!

- We fly back to One Island and prepare to take on the islands for real. Welcome to the team, Perry! First thing's first: defeating the trainers on Kindle Road and Mt. Ember. This is to mainly allow Perry to gain some levels, as he comes to us at level 40.
- We also get the HM for Rock Smash and teach it to Lapras.
- There's a cave in Mt. Ember but I decide to explore it later. After defeating the few trainers there, I go back to One Island and head south to Treasure Beach, where lots of hidden items are and oh boy I don't have the Itemfinder.
- Moving on to Two Island to give that Meteorite to whoever Celio wanted me to give it to... and of course, the guy's missing his daughter. Onwards to Three Island... (yay for fetch quests)
- Oh and the Bikers pick a fight with us and they get burned. Yeah, that's a thing. I'm more excited about the fact that there's a real Pokemart on this island. Perhaps I'll explore the cave on One Island after all?
- We rescue Lostelle. Hurray. And delivered the meteorite.
- Back to Kanto for our last gym badge!!

- It's time for some training before we take on the last gym leader. First thing's first: beating any trainers we missed.
- During the training, Kamui finally hits level 49 and learns Flamethrower. This means Kamui can finally evolve into Arcanine! As a bonus, he learns Extremespeed upon evolution!

- While we're here on Cycling Road, we also defeat the second Snorlax.
- Defeating all the trainers on Route 20 concludes Trainers that I purposefully missed. Now it's time to take on the eighth gym leader! And to do that, we must go back to where it all started... Viridian City.
- I wonder who's the gym leader of this gym... Whoever they are, they either use Ground types or Fighting types. Hopefully it's the latter.
- After beating all the gym trainers, we find out that the leader is none other than...!

- Defeated Giovanni! We now have all eight badges... now the only thing that's left is to prepare for the trek to the Pokemon League. We're getting to the end of our adventure...

Must have spent about 30 minutes trying to catch a Bronzor with Metal Coat to evolve Onix into Steelix. Realised soon after that I'll need another for Scyther to evolve but I might just wait to get to the Iron Island instead of trying to catch another Bronzor with Metal Coat. This has been going quite smoothly, this monotype. There is decent coverage and I'm still hoping to add Magnezone and Probopass to the final roster. None of the gyms were too hard, the 4th maybe the hardest because of the weakness, but Scyther had that sorted out with Wing Attack.

- Before taking on the League, I went and caught Moltres.

- I also beat Hydro for the seventh time.

- And now, the League!

- Arguably the toughest member of the league for us because of her dual Water/Ice types and Surf, I tried to make use of Confuse Ray and Will-o-Wisp to wear down bulky Pokemon like Dewgong, Lapras
and Slowbro. Her Jynx was a pain as well; Attract makes it so that you only have a 50% chance to move (and 4/6 of my Pokemon are males) and Lovely Kiss makes your Pokemon sleep, effectively
rendering them unable to move. I'm surprised this didn't go worse, it really could have.

- A lack of decently powerful Flying-type moves for Moltres and Charizard makes this match a lot tougher than it should be. To get around Rock Tomb and Earthquake I made use of Intimidate and Will-o-wisp to render Onix and Machamp null. Overall pretty easy but it could've been easier if Moltres and Charizard had, say, Air Slash from Generation 4.

- I think of Agatha as a Poison-type E4 and not a Ghost-type E4... Anyways, Agatha's really annoying, with her status spam and all. And Roy (Flareon)'s Shadow Ball isn't very strong... I just basically brute forced her. There's really no other way around it.

- Scratch Lorelei being the toughest, LANCE is the toughest. Lorelei is just threatening. All of Lance's Pokemon resist Fire-type moves, and Aerodactyl is speedy and has AncientPower. Gyarados is rocking a Fire resist and has 100 base Sp. Def so Sunny Day didn't really help.
Will-o-wisp, relying on Lance's dragons confusing themselves using Outrage, and Dracus's Dragon Claw once the dragons came out were key to winning this battle. There's nothing I could hit Gyarados or Aerodactyl with. In fact, those were the most threatening Pokemon on Lance's team and they're not
even dragon types. Nice job.

- Oh man, this was the toughest fight by far. Blastoise resisting Fire and its great defenses to boot made it into a real wall for us. It's got Hydro Pump to boot and none of our Pokemon can really take one--it's too strong. So the easiest option is to basically stall until it runs out of PP for Hydro Pump.
Rhydon was also a challenge for us with Earthquake and Rock Tomb. Other than that there's not much else to say about this battle...

But at the end of the day, we came through.

And our adventure comes to an end... for now.

i have to catch like 60 pokemon to continue the story so maybe round two will come later okay

Steel Monotype - Platinum (Complete)

An incredibly fun challenge, the coverage that Steel has in this gen is quite nice. The gym leaders weren't too bad, with the exception of the last gym purely because of the speed and power of the Pokemon, but apart from that I was fine. It's also easy to grind Steel types in Victory Road so I was able to gain a few levels for each Pokemon there before I went into the Pokemon League, knowing I had to deal with both Ground and Fire type teams. Aaron wasn't too hard to deal with, Bug isn't exactly strong against me so that wasn't much of a problem. Bertha's Ground types should have been a lot harder on paper, but Empoleon was able to OHKO 4 of her Pokemon after surviving two super effective attacks. Empleon had to show up against Flint too, since they were all fast and used super effective moves against me. Bronzong's Hypnosis-Confuse Ray combo helped out a lot there. Lucian was probably the easiest to deal with. I just set up Swords Dance on Scizor, full restored and almost swept the team with it. Cynthia wasn't too difficult either, especially since Empoleon's Ice Beam OHKO'd Garchomp. Overall a very fun challenge, I'll be doing more monotypes on Platinum for sure.

I've been playing a lot this week, and I was able to finish up my Leafgreen MonoGround Challenge today.

I moved on and started playing Monotype Ground on Sapphire, but that's a different post for a different day.

Here's a quick rundown:

I ran around in Pokemon Tower for probably 6 or 7 hours to get that thick club I was looking for. It was nice having a Marowak with huge attack power, but I just felt like Dugtrio outclassed Marowak & Sandslash completely. I did manage to get a shiny Gastly while searching for that held item, though. I named my Cubone (F) Morghulis. She didn't take much grinding to catch up to the team, but she wasn't much help in the tower. All the Gastly & Haunter were immune to her.

After I got the Pokeflute, I went to the Safari Zone and grabbed a Rhyhorn (M), which I named Mountain. I swapped out Greyjoy for Mountain, and he immediately became one of my greatest assets. Between his bulk, his ATK stat, and his STAB Rock Blast, he was outstanding.

The remaining four gym leaders weren't much of a challenge. I had to rematch a couple of them, but it was easy enough to come up with winning strategies & carry them out.

The real trouble came when it was time for the Rival Battle after the Viridian gym. His team was much higher level than mine. Grinding to catch up is tough at that stage of the game, too. It took a few hours, but eventually I got the team to a decent level and taught Nidoking & Nidoqueen some vital TMs.

Victory Road was challenging, at first. I started out trying not to skip any battles, even random encounters. Eventually I started running from fights in order to get to Indigo Plateau faster, but I was unprepared to take on the league. I had to spend a long time grinding after reaching the elite 4. I had to buy loads of max potions & revives, too. We struggled, and we just barely survived several of the fights, but eventually we won.

MVP(s) for this run: It's a toss-up. I was keeping up with victory points for rival battles, gym battles, and elite 4 battles, and Nidoking tied with Rhydon. Even in the elite 4 battles, they were roughly equal. Kingslayer was vital in taking down Lorelei & Lance, while Mountain was the key to defeating Agatha & our Rival Champion.

Sapphire Mono-Ground Challenge Progress (Part 1):

It's Sapphire and I'm playing ground, so I started with Mudkip. I'm going with meme themed names for these guys, so my starter's name is Pepe. He was the only monster I had for the first gym, but it was a rock gym, so no problem.

Before the second gym, I caught a Nincada and named it BugLife, and I caught a Geodude and named it StoneSteph. Nincada can't evolve, and its stats are garbage. So more-or-less, it's just a Cut buddy. Again, my Geodude can never turn into a Golem, since I have no way to trade between GBA games. I've underestimated the combo of Ground & Rock for years, though. That combo is slow, and it has tons of weaknesses, but it gives our team some much-needed coverage against Flying types. Pepe did all the work in the second gym, as well, but Steph got some good exp there.

The second rival battle was pretty tough, since both of my decent mons had 4x weaknesses to grass, and May had a Grovyle. Pepe got a lucky crit with Mud Shot on our fourth attempt, and her other mons were no real threat.

The third gym was another cakewalk. Those electric mons couldn't even touch my team. I let Steph steamroll them.

After the third gym, I did a lot of wandering, plot progression, and grinding. I caught a Sandshrew and named it SuccessKid, but I probably won't be using it much. I also caught a Numel and named it HumpDay, and it has been a great addition to the team. I think it's going to be especially useful for dealing with May's Sceptile. The fourth gym was fire, so that was another easy win. Pepe did most of the work in the Flannery fight, just because he needed the exp the most.

May gave us the go-goggles, and we went into the desert. I caught a Trapinch and named it Toothless, and I caught an Baltoy and named it Creepy. I had to swap out BugLife to fit my new team members, and I'm still working to grind them up to around level 31 (the level of my highest-level mons). I still need to get a Whiscash, so I don't have to have all the water HMs on my starter. I'll probably replace my Graveler with a Rhydon again, too.
