Bryce and Mankey watched in anticipation as the Pokeball began to shake from side to side. To Bryce, this was the longest three seconds ever. The ball shook once, twice, and finally, it stopped. Bryce ran to the ball and picked it up. As if showing it off to the whole world, he yelled,
"Alright! I caught a Shinx!" Mankey only jumped up and down, sharing in his owner's joy.
The two continued walking down the road. He had been down this route countless times on his way to the Jubilife Pokemon Academy. His old friend was probably still there. Still getting picked on, he thought to himself as he smirked. He would surprise all of his old classmantes with his two new strong Pokemon. They would be terribly jealous. He smirked again at the thought of someone being jealous of him.
Finally, Bryce and Mankey passed through the two lampposts that marked the entrance into Jubilife city. Jubilife city was the most advanced city in all of Sinnoh as far as technology was concerned. Not only did it sport an awesome Pokemon Academy, but many new additions were also being added, along with some that were already there.
Past the Pokemon Academy was a lot where the proposed Global Trade Station stood. Right now, trainers from all over the world could travel to this spot and trade. They were planning on implementing a system that allowed trade without having to travel such a long distance.
There was also Jubilife TV station, formerly the Jubilife Radio Show station. Right next to that was the Poketch Company. They were proposing a watch that would aid all sorts of trainers during their travels.
He entered the Pokemon Academy. He was immediately greeted by familiar faces.
"Look, it's Bryce!"
"Hey, Bryce! How's it going?"
Bryce only proceeded to release his Pokemon. He was surprised when everyone else had Pokemon too.
"You didn't think you were the only one who actually became a trainer. Did you?"
After a couple of hours of watching battles and showing off moves, Bryce left the Academy and entered the Pokemon Center. He saw the familiar Nurse Joy there, along with her Chansey. He walked up to the counter.
"Hi, miss. Could you heal my Pokemon for me?" He asked her in a polite manner.
"Of course," she replied. He handed her a tray that held his two Pokemon. "It'll take a couple of minutes. Why don't you go and grab a bite to eat?" She went to the back and began attending to his Pokemon.
Bryce decided that a bite to eat sounded good. He hadn't eaten since he left Sandgem Town. On his way to the cafeteria, he passed by a bulletin board in the Pokemon Center. It read: LOOKING FOR RATATTA. OFFERING RARE POKEMON AS REWARD! It explained how his mother would not allow him to travel and catch his own Ratatta.
"Darn!" Bryce exclaimed. "I knew I shouldn't caught one of those Ratatta!" Now his day was ruined, he could have had a good Pokemon, but no, he wanted a Shinx! However, he brushed it off and continued toward the Cafeteria.
As he took a seat, he saw a bunch of kids crowded around an older kid. He was holding a disc.
"This is a technical machine, or TM for short," he explained. "I won it at the battle tent outside of the city." The younger kids listened, amazed, as the older kid continued to brag about his prize.
"TMs teach Pokemon how to use certain attacks," he continued.
"What attack is that one?" One kid asked.
"This? Oh, it's just an Earthquake TM. Nothing special." The kid tried to sound like he was nonchalant about the whole thing, but he was actually all bubbly inside. Bryce stood up and approached the boy.
"Hey you!"
"Who me?"
"Yes, you! Where did you say you got that TM from?"
"Oh, I got it from the Battle Tent. It's right outside of town." The boy pointed towards the direction of the tent. "You're not thinking of going, are you?"
"Yes, what of it?"
"Well," he turned his head. "You're not going to be able to beat them." Bryce looked at the boy. What did he just say?
"I can beat them, and I will!" You could see fire in his eyes. He was determined to prove this kid wrong. "Just wait and see. I'll even come back and show you the TM that I win."
"No need to, I'll come with you." The kid followed Bryce out of the door and toward the tent. On the way, he asked Bryce an important question.
"Do you even have any Pokemon?"
"Oh, right, my Pokemon!" In all of the excitement, Bryce had completely forgotten about his Pokemon.
"I was wondering if you were ever going to come back," Nurse Joy remarked as she gave Bryce back his Pokemon. "They are now fighting fit. We hope to see you again!"
"Chansey!" Chansey replied in agreement.
Bryce exited back out of the door and went his way to the Battle Tent. The trainer followed behind him. The tent was nothing like Bryce had seen before. There were small battlefields surrounding it and a pond for water battles. He and the trainer entered the tent.
"I would like to sign up for the competition," Bryce told the attendant. She led him to an area outside. There was a rack full of ApriBalls.
"Here's how it works, you will select a random Pokemon. All of the Pokemon are at level 10. You will then face a challenger." She led him to the rack of ApriBalls. Bryce picked the one with the number 7 on it. Another kid approached the rack. This was his challenger. The kid picked the number 4 ApriBalls. The attendant led the two to a nearby battlefield.
"The battle is over when one of the Pokemon are unable to battle. Begin!"
Bryce and the challenger both threw their Pokeballs to the ground. Out popped a Ponyta and Bidoof. Bryce let out a grin because the Bidoof wasn't his. The trainer on the other hand was pretty upset.
"Ha," Bryce laughed. "You and your weak Pokemon are going down! Ponyta, use Tackle!"
Ponyta's speed was unmatched. She sped towards Bidoof and charged right at it, knocking it off of its feet. The Bidoof landed and waited for its temporary owner's command.
"Bidoof, you use Tackle also." Bidoof charged at the Ponyta, only to miss. Ponyta used Tackle again and hit Bidoof once more. However, Bidoof hung in there.
"Bidoof, use Defense Curl," the trainer ordered. The Bidoof curled up into a ball, thus raising his defense. When Ponyta charged it again, the impact barely left a dent.
"Bidoof, use Defense Curl until you can't anymore!" Bidoof continuously used Defense Curl, until nothing happened anymore. Bidoof's Defense was at a maximum!
"Ponyta! This guy's an idiot! Knock him out!" Ponyta raced toward the Bidoof one more and landed a hit. It then ran back toward Bryce, who ordered another Tackle attack. However, as soon as Ponyta started charging, the trainer did something unexpected happened.
"Bidoof, use Aqua Tail!" The trainer had checked his Pokedex only to find that this particular Bidoof had inherited an Egg Move from its father. Bidoof charged at the charging Ponyta, while water spiraled around its tail. When both Pokemon hit each other, only Bidoof was left standing.
"Ponyta is unable to battle. Bidoof is the winner!" The attendant, as well as everyone else there, was completely in shock. They were all expecting Ponyta to win.
Bryce stood there in a daze. He couldn't believe he had lost. He had the Speed advantage and the stronger Pokemon. How could he have been beaten by a Bidoof?!?!
"Both of you did well," said the attendant. "I would like both of you to follow me so that I can hand out prizes." The two boys followed the attendant into another area inside of the tent where there were loads of discs.
"Alright! I caught a Shinx!" Mankey only jumped up and down, sharing in his owner's joy.
