The NEW Rom Hacking Newsletter Team

I'm up for some more reportin'.
By the way, "Kawaii, Inc." should be changed to "I'm Betting On Alice." Ummm, did Mac_Mini mention the ideas I had? They were contests and "Reader Reports." I can explain in more detail, if you need. I just don't feel like typing a lot if it's unnecessary.

Crap I forgot!
Sorry I'm betting on Alice.
Well seeing as your here, why don't you explain it to the rest of us?

"I'd suggested doing some sort of contest. It'd get people more involved with the newsletter. It could be something from "Most Original Character Sprite" to "Best Looking/Most Comprehensive Rombase." That'd also be a good way to spur the community towards more innovation.

We could also have a Submit-An-Essay [I like the title "Reader Reports] section for people to PM their own articles to you/Darthatron. You can then choose the best written one to put in the Newsletter. Then some of the team could write responses, or their opinions about the essay. It wouldn't have to be for every newsletter, but I think it'd be a good way to get people involved."

I just copy-and-pasted, but I thought I did an adequate job of explaining. What do you all think?

I agree, I think that would be fun! Also, letters to the editor would be a cool section, like in the backs of some comic books!

Seems like a pretty fantastic idea to me.

I agree.
Thank you~ -Bows gratefully-

Think I could get it to you this Friday?
Sure. Send it before Sunday, and it might even be in the next issue.

Mac_Mini suggested that we stop reviewing every HotW, and I must admit, I agree. Most of the hacks that win HotW aren't that fantastic, to be honest.

Discuss.

I think we should still review them. Without doing that, what would we have to review? Would we cut back on our reviews?

Hmm..

I can't really say for sure. HotW provides us with a steady supply of *somewhat* decent hacks to review, as opposed to HotM, which'd only give us one hack to review over two weeks.

Maybe we could review all of the options for HotM for each month, but that would only cover one of the two newsletters we have to make per month..

I'm leaning more towards stopping reviewing HotW, unless the hack in question is particularly impressive. :/

I don't think we should fill the newsletter up with garbage. If it says, "Not a lot of scripting done...the ROM Base is okay. It's average." over and over, I wouldn't want to read it.

Quality, not quantity. I suggest, only reviewing hacks at the reviewer's choice. Let those people decide (meaning, I shouldn't have said anything...)!

You might want to add an article, since you're applying for reviewer.

>_> Hey! I write the Tips/Tricks!
*giggle* Just kidding, I really wouldn't mind having a partner here on the RHN to help me out, ya know?
Write a good article about something, you want to join as though.
(Do an interview for interviewer, Hack Review for Reviewer... etc...)
If you do end up being my partner, then you could write something for Tips / Tricks, and I could do Beginners Corner, and we could alternate!
But I am jumping the gun, you gotta get accepted first!

Up Up Up, Darcy and I have the final say about this!
Well link, you should add some proof (as the othes have been saying -_-)
But you seem like a great candadate, just write a tip or trick that Darcy or I didn't know and your in!

Nobody sends me their articles to edit. -_- I am an editor to ya know!

Hey, I have a great idea!! How about we review HotW, but we keep it strict! We criticize and poke at the little things, and make some points on how the author of the hack could do better.
Therefore, the winner of HotW gets some pointers, we look helpful and become a nice way of saying 'DO THIS BETTER'.

I think it would be a good idea. But we can't forget about the good things that HotW sometimes gives us, you know?

Yeah, that's good thinking.. but we also don't want to not have anything to fill the RHN up with. Maybe we could create different sections on what we're seeing with the most recent HotW winners, and what future generations of hacks could do well to see. Though, reviewing hacks at the reviewer's choice is also a good idea.. :)

Yeah, that's a great idea! We could also include a little bit on how to improve on those specific points for everyone (i.e. Winner_of_HotW wins HotW with his hack "Pokemon: Hahahaiwinz". Mac_Mini thinks that the tiles are too common, and suggests to newer hackers that they should select tiles not too commonly used, but not way over their heads.).

I think we should also allow the reviewers to review a hack that appeals to them, as well. Y'know, throw some personal choice in there.
