I always give them human names

so lets say Staraptor♀- Sarah

Actually in hindsight, giving them human names does seem a bit creepy now that I think about it

Bob (my Venusaur) used Vine Whip :shocked:

I do not recall giving nicknames to my other Pokemon. Although when I was younger I would give my Pokemon nicknames based off of how people would react to them. That is how Horsea who could use Smokescreen got the nickname "MY EYES!" =P
 
A few of my recently hatched/caught ones-
Snorlax- Gaz
Mudkip - Al
Cyndaquil- Snow
Chikorita- Flux
Larvitar- Night, and another called Sandstorm.
After trying to hath a good natured Bagon (TOO MANY BAGON! ARRGHH!), I used so many random names (Yes I name every one that I hatch :L).
On ROMs I tend to go for even more random names, like Dave, Terry, and them types.
 
These are the names I recall using in my Diamond file:

Luxray - X-ray (A play on his name, and I think that's where Luxray got its name from)
Starapter - Aether (Named after the Greek God of Air, Aether; though it fitted him)
Dialga - Tiempo (Named him after the Spanish word for time)


That's all I remember.
 
I name every Pokemon I catch. Usually, I have themes which I follow. Here're the names of my teams:

FireRed:
-Venusaur/Saur
-Electabuzz/Buzz
-Arcanine/Nine
-Lapras/Pras
-Togetic/Toge
-Alakazam/Kazam
(All nicknamed as a sub of their original names)

Platinum:
-Empoleon/Tsunami
-Starraptor/Rally
-Leafeon/Persephone
-Marmortar/Eruption
-Giratina/Giratina
-Electrivire/Electro
 
I've never been too keen on nicknames but I remember one time back when I first played Ruby I nicknamed my Medicham BIG BALLS as that's what it looks like it has haha.
 
I name all my Pokémon. Some from Platinum:

Cheetah (Infernape) The oldest-lived monkey
Guinevere (Gardevoir) The queen from King Arthur's tale
Lancelot (Gallade) The knight who ran away with Guinevere
Brutus (Garchomp) = Brutal
Omen (Absol) A word, duh
Tobi (Togekiss) Fits with name of the species, means Kite
Giratina (Hades) The god of the Underworld

each game that i start i have a general place where i get all the nicknames for the entire game. for my diamond i am using characters from books.
Rapidash-Mercy
Haunter-Stefan
Ponyta-Adam
Pikachu-Sophie

thats all i can think of right now
 
Everyone else has awesome names xD, I rarely actually name my pokemon, and if I do its only once there a final form and I want them in my party and I change it from say, "ABRA" "Abra" I hate how they make the pokemon names all caps -_-.
 
i finally got my own Milotic.


i named her Konata.

anyone get the2 reference? >:3
 
i don't usually nickname pokemon but if i did i'd give them one with a meaning.


Snorlax - Egg (he hatched from an egg when i got him)
Riolu/Lucario - Riley (Riley is the one to give you the Riolu (egg))
Starly- tall grass ((in pokemon diamond/pearl/platinum)like most people a starly is their first catch because it's really the first pokemon and it's found in tall grass)

and many more names and all with reasons

my fav nickname for a pickachu/pichu/raichu - mansion (you find it in the pokemon mansion)
 
I tend not to nickname pokemon unless they are useful like the team I am using now.

I have an F-etish. Lulz.
 
I named my Poochyena Demon Fido, but usually I leave it's name.
