"Recently, the asylum seekers from Sri Lanka have caused a lot of controversy. Those people were trying to escape from their own country, seeking refuge in Australia. The controversy emerges from the fact that many of us believe we don't have enough resources to support the asylum seekers. This makes us question our identity as a nation and whether we really are as accepting as we appear to be. Many believe that they shouldn't be denied the opportunity to start afresh. If they were accepted, they would become 'Australian', bringing the cultural boundaries closer together. Though why do we actually accept people from other cultures so easily?"
