False. I was paranoid about missing a wild shiny, but after 5 years of never using them I gave up and sprayed the entire region with repels.

The person below me has never turned off the game cos they were pissed cos a random NPC wanted to battle them out of nowhere.

True, I don't like Gardevoir at all! Always found the design creepy for a Pokémon...
