It deserved to be pure steel or pure rock with higher HP. Where it stands, it is only slightly better than Bastiodon. Emphasis on slightly. Rock/steel is perhaps the worst combination for defense given how common it is to run fighting type moves with priority and earthquake.
I like Dusknoir's design, but I do believe it is a flawed pokemon. What's the point of having high defenses but low HP? It's base HP is at 45 making it lower than Probopass!
Its defenses are still very high though, meaning it can still tank hits at a high level. It's also a pretty good bulky attacker in Trick Room, which it is capable of setting.
A running theme when it comes to ghost types is their low HP stat, and there is one thing Dusknoir can absolutely take advantage of: Pain Split. This alone is one of the few things carrying this pokemon. That and its pressure ability. Walling with an ability like that and your opponent must rethink their approach.
