My parents don't know I like Pokémon. Shoot me for saying this, but I am embarassed to play Pokémon. You see, if I want to buy the $30 SoulSilver game, I will spend my own money. At GameStop. Where I can't go alone, where my parents would come with me.

I would be embarassed, and I know my parents would talk to all of my friends about it when they came over; also, if somebody at school caught me playing with my PokéWalker, than I would be ruined for life.

Kids in my class talk about Pokémon and have the PokéWalker, but the are the kids considered nerds in my class. I was talking about it with them today, and they didn't seem to care.

So my main question is, should I buy Pokémon SoulSilver or not?

Too old to play pokemon at 13? I turn 21 next month! Then again, I'm a loser. :paranoid:

Seriously, though, just buy it. You only live once, and you can't base decisions off of what other people may think of you, in my opinion.

I've always found sainso's own brand vodka mkixed with their cheap Gin will fix that, it's worked wonders with me.

Listen here kid. I'm 18 and play Pokemon and dammit I like it.
Do my parents know?

Do my friends know?
Hell no

If I was caught with my Pokewalker, I'd be the laughing stock of everywhere. It's something I like to do, and if you're that worried about your social status, then just don't tell anyone and you'll be fine! You've got your friends on PC if you feel lonely :) If it wasn't for my friends here and on IRC, I wouldn't have HGSS (although I would have wanted it). Looks may be decieving as well. Everyone (including myself) will admit to thinking Pokemon as for little kids in public. But duh, I moderate a Pokemon forum. There has to be one person at school that likes it too, but is afraid to say it. Unless you're 95% sure though, don't ask them. I found a friend at college who likes Pokemon too. We kinda got into a talk about how we liked it when we were little, and he mentioned the remake, I said HGSS, and it took off from there.

Hope this helps. You don't need to FLAUNT you like Pokemon, but do what you enjoy!

All my friends know i like pokemon and my perants know, im 18 and im not ashamed of what i like! :D
i some times even play it in college :P and id so wear a pokemon walker in class too!
 
I talk to my mom about Pokemon which is weird, actually. We were talking about HeartGold the other day...haha

None of my friends know I like Pokemon. So before someone comes over, I hide PokemonBattleRevolution, Diamond, Platinum, HeartGold, my stickers(lmao) and my PokeWalker.

Also my DS. JUST to be safe.

i'd actually like to take the time to answer this even though its a bit old ^^

My parent's know i play pokemon, and they don't really care. some of my friends and even people i don't talk to at my school know i play pokemon, and they dont really care. heck, i even pulled out my PokeWalker in homeroom, and people either told me i fail, or it looked pretty cool. but do i care? absolutely not. i only pay attention to the positive comments, nothing else. i don't care about being called a nerd, because i have many friends who can back me up and not all of them are "nerds". i'm going to be a freshman pretty soon, and i'll most likely still be playing pokemon, maybe not as much, but i still will.

so my answer to your question is, Yes, buy SoulSilver if you like playing pokemon. it dosent matter what other people think about you, what matters is that you want to play a game you enjoy, so why not just go for it? nothing is holding you back from buying it except yourself.
btw, i bring my pokewalker EVERYWHERE i go. but not my ds, since i will most likely lose it.

Well, for starters I'd figure out why you feel this way. After you figure that out, find a way to combat it so you don't feel like running into traffic. :)

And to Hotn'Cold, if you like playing Pokemon, then get the game you want. You shouldn't worry so much about what others think.
 
Dear Dr. PokeCommunity,

Everyone thinks I'm one of the happiest guys in the world. I always smile, I never have bad days, I am on the road to academic success, I always make people laugh and nobody has any issues with me. Or, so everyone thinks.

Since I have this stereotype of being an optimist, I'm not allowed to be sad. If I have a bad day, even for trivial reasons, people freak out, or at least they used to. I've for a long time learned to shut up when I'm down. Instead, I'm always cheerful and bright for everyone, that way I don't drag anybody else down or force them to ask uncomfortable questions.

I have been alone for quite a long time (longer than I care to admit). I live with my family, so I'm surrounded by people, but none of them ever take the time to ask how I'm doing. I dropped out of school because of poor grades, my hobbies aren't progressing and I can't get a job.

I leave on a Mormon mission in 2 months for 2 years. I have no real way to meet people IRL, since I don't go anywhere except to my fencing 3 times a week, where I don't really fit in and kinda stay away from other people. My family isn't an option as far as people I can turn to. I spend most of my time reading, watching TV and using the internet, and I am constantly reminded that I am alone.

I've been kind of waiting for someone to come along that I can be close enough to to talk about my problems with, but nobody has come along. And as great as the internet is, ranting about it online isn't gonna help.

How can I cope with the next 2 months? Should I try to contact people from high school last year that I had occasional conversation with? Should I just deal with it? What to do?

LOL, actually seeing myself post this online makes me laugh. I'm usually posting smilies and whatnot all over my post.

Similar situation with me.

I, also, am 13. None of my friends like Pokemon. But I do. I never tell them, so it's an "at-home" thing.
Still, I have every Pokemon game from the original Silver and over 1000 TCG cards.

My parents don't care for Pokemon, my friends don't either. But do that stop me from buying EVERY GAME SINCE SILVER? NO!

I LOVE Pokemon more than a lot of things. So if I love it more than something, so should you. Don't let things get in the way of what you love. Embrace it.

If you want to meet new people try going out into public more. Shift your activities to some place where there are more people around. Do your reading at a park, a coffee shop, or a library. You could try giving the people you do fencing with another chance. Honestly, two months doesn't sound like a very long time to get to know someone so I wouldn't expect you to become best friends with anyone, but it sounds like you're in a rut and anything new and different would probably help you feel better.

So, yeah, go ahead and call up those people from high school. If they don't want to do anything with you you're no worse off than you are now. If they do then you have someone to hang out with.

You can't at this point, really.

I know how you feel though, I kept mine secret for a pretty long time. But I can say from experience that people knowing is really only a problem if it threatens to end your relationship. If not, you really don't have anything to be ashamed of for it. Don't worry about what other people think, and believe it or not a lot of them probably wish you well.
 
If you're embarrassed then just try not to make a big deal of it :)

Who knows though - people won't neccissarily make fun of you if that's what you're worried about.

Kids mock what they don't understand, and a lot of the time in this case they don't do it to be cruel, although you do have bullies and such.

I remember as a kid I would give my older cousins flak when they brought their dates over. XD Be all like "EWWW cooties!!!"

Yeah, I had this kind of relationship when I was 10. From personal experience I can tell you that ignoring them is your best bet. Secretly they just want a relationship, and they are jealous..... XD

But yeah, either they're jealous or don't understand the concept of a romantic relationship yet.
 
That's why you shouldn't give info to someone who even you don't trust itsy bitsy.
Also, go aheard and laugh at him saying "I have a girl and you NOT, how's that feel, wimp?" then proceed to kick him in the face, thus solving the problem and then pretend you and your gf break up.
