Is that why they weren't present at the assulting of N's Castle?

    They weren't present during N's castle, because they were apparently off fighting the Shadow Triad. Whilst I don't believe that they are the Triad, it was suspicious of the Shadow Triad and Cilan, Cress and Chili not to show up; hence the rumor of them being the Triad. ;o;

    A LITTLE CONVENIENT NO?

I don't think they're one and the same either, but it sure would be an interesting twist.

If the three gym leaders were really the shadow triad, there would have been a bit more hints to that within the game. That's what I would think at least.

If the Striaton Gym Leaders really are the Shadow Triad, then I would have liked to see more evidence in the games that they are, other than the fact that the Striaton Gym Leaders weren't around when the other Gym Leaders held off the sages.

But then, that's what a third game's for, right? Going off topic a liitle, the three orbs that they give you indicates that Ghestis has something planned with them, that the third game will inevitably explain.

(Yes, I know that they give them to you so that the player can (at the very least) access Giritena's Origin Forme. But why did GameFreak make the Shadow Triad give them to you? Why not find them lying on the ground somewhere in a cave? That's the point I'm making.)

Ok... Just because they happen to be a trio and weren't present with the other gym leaders during the endgame doesn't mean they were another trio on the other side. In addition, the Shadow Triad declares to the player "Never shall we meet again," on Marvelous Bridge. As well as that... How can one be a butler and a ninja at the same time?

Or, they could just be three brothers of a sextuplet.

Fire, Water and Grass versus er, Dark, Psychic,Ghost or something?

Either way, they're two trios battling it out, so hopefully we find out more in Gen 6

If it were true (and I hope sooo much it is) what would that mean for the anime? What would Cilian do when Ash tries to stop team Plasma? Will he stop or let him attack?

Personally i think the conclusion has a reasonable claim. A) there are 3 gym leaders in striation city
    B) There are three masked people called the shadow triad
    C) we have no history on both of them, so they could in fact be the same person
    D) The shadow Triad show no aggression toward the main player, they keep it semi friendly.
    F) The shadow triad are loyal to Ghetis because he saved there lives, which could explain why they didnt show up to fight team plasma or why they didnt show up to fight the gym leaders. And why really there only act of aggression was breaking Ghetis from custody

So it makes perfect sense that the gym leaders and the triad COULD BE one in the same

if cilan was part of the shadow triad it would show inner conflict. It would show him helping his friends but also serving someone who saved his life.
The more i think about it the more i love the idea. I mean how are they gonna top B/W story in the third game? I think this would show that these are real people. They can show back story on them and the rest of team plasma.
It would fit in with why they do what they do, I mean like they say everything isnt always Black and White ( Grey !!!!!!!!!!!!!!) lol

Well I hope that they give a more backstory to the Shadow Triad in the possible Third Game, what ever it may be called.

But I hope it isn't them (more new characters equals more fun).

I finally started putting stock in this theory once I saw the Shadow Triad in the manga. Each mask of the Triad in the manga looks like the fur patterns on the monkeys. There's also the fact that even though the manga is in black and white, their outfits are black, and you can tell because they're literally pitch black. The masks aren't, which implies there may be a color there. They're also not all shaded the same shade of gray.

All of those combined with the minor game hints makes me think that there may be something to the theory.

The Striaton Trio are too underdeveloped as characters to give this theory any sort of precedence, especially because the game doesn't do anything to reinforce this either.

Basically, they're the least developed characters in the game because they're only the first Gym Leaders, and the game doesn't make you spend that long hanging around Striaton City. When you're there at the start of the game you're wrapped up in what happens at the Dreamyard and that's concerning Team Plasma and foreshadowing the very obvious plot twist. Otherwise, the three serve their purpose as introducing the player to Gym Battles.

Fast forward to the end of the game, and every other Gym Leader has done something other than hang around in their Gym all day, so it's not a surprise to see them at the end of the game. I wouldn't be surprised if by that point some players would have forgotten about the Striaton trio if it weren't for their gym badge. It would have looked a bit funny if these three suddenly re-appeared out of nowhere, and if you remember that scene where the other Gym Leaders confront the six sages they would be out of place there too.

Basically, Cilan, Cress and Chilli don't do anything at all after you leave Striaton City. If they'd suddenly disappeared or even moved around at some point during the game, then yes that would be a very suspicious thing to do, but as it stands they never get developed.

The same can kinda be said for the Shadow Triad - there's nothing ever mentioned about their backgrounds which makes it hard to justify any connections between the two groups.

Personally I believe we're barking up the wrong tree here. The two groups are similar because they're triplets or whatever, but there's a far more important occurrenceof the number three in Black and White - Triple Battling. Triple Battles as they stand are very under-utilised in the game, maybe in the next game we will see the player battling Cilan, Chilli and Cress all at once, and engaging the Shadow Triad in triple battles in separate occasions?

Well you did say you felt the game wasn't finished, so all the points you brought up could be resolved in a 3rd( finished) game. And I believe that the fact that the gym leaders and the triad are undeveloped in the main games would make it more likely that they could in fact be one in the same.

Well we never got to fight the triad, so that lets me to believe they may have a connection with the Striaton City gym leaders after all. I bet we will get to fight them on the 3rd game, a bit disapointed we didn't get to this time around. Only time will tell, we have about 2 years left until its all revealed...such a long time *sigh*

Bianca actually says in game that by the time she made it to Striaton City Gym, the events of the castle were over. Its her fault they weren't there.
