Name: James 'Skidred' Kenway
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Pokemon Species: Zangoose
Newborn or Entrenched Mechanists: Newborn
Job Title: Field Technician
Appearance:
Skidred is a capable free-runner, able to climb trees and swing from one to another, as well as cliff faces and pretty much everything else in the wild. He can move through urban enviroment just as easily. Accompanying his capacity to move fluidly, his skill in battle is only visible by his outfit - he wear a light plate shoulderpad on his right shoulder and a tough, black fur on his left, which runs down to his neck.
A thin red sash is fastened on his belt, which bears a silver symbol of a Braviary. Long, black leather boots with leggings that extended past his knees cover his legs. He also wears a short leather cape.
A belt with many slots and sheaths crosses his chest from his left shoulder to his right ribs, overlapping with the red sash. Right there, there is a special sheath he uses for his pistol, which happens to be a 18th century revolver. Next to the pistol slot, there is another slot where he hangs his hatchet. His hatchet has a one sided beak-like blade on it.
Another slot on his belt contains his magnetic compass which apparently doesn't work thanks to Skidred's body structure (but he still doesn't let go of it). Binoculars hang down with a small rope from his neck, along with a round, silver pendant. Also, three flares are tied with his red sash onto his left ribs.
*he has peculiar green eyes.
History:
James Kenway was born into one of the families which resided in the camp of Creelic Valley. His parents were raising Mareeps in the pasture lands of the area, just like the rest of the camp - James grew up in this kind of enviroment, spending his childhood learning all about the life in the wilderness and how to protect the Mareeps from the wild Mightyenas who had declared a war on the camp. He was taught how to fight by his father, Derek, who would take him to the forest to train him againist wild Pokemon - sometimes, they encountered a Mightyena and he would show off his skills to his son who idolized him. James showed incredible combat skills from a very early age, as well as a talent for manipulating aura; it was clear that he would serve the camp as a guardian like his father was doing, to protect it from the Mightyenas' attacks.
Years passed and a teenager James was now responsible enough to watch over the Mareeps the family owned all by himself, being a 'tough puppy' thanks to the hatchet he wielded. Although he couldn't fight the Mightyenas, he could fight multiple Poochyenas, who were alot more and attacked often. That way, he was trained daily, pushing his limits to the max. The young Zangoose was developing into a fearsome warrior with unique battle style, a very dangerous asset of the camp againist Mightyenas. So, they started setting ambushes all across Creelic Valley for him and his sheeps - but he was always managing to avoid them, using his powers and wits. The Mightyenas, seeing their subtle tactics wouldn't work, went for a full-scale assault on the camp, aiming to kill every relative of James' they saw - James protected his two sisters valiantly, using his speed to his advantage.
James was deemed the hero of the camp, as he had fought and killed more Mightyenas than any other guardian - his parents could not be proud enough. They gifted him an old pistol saying they had stolen it from a trespasser on their forest; James figured the hatchet and every other weapon in the camp were stolen by other trespassers as well. Eventually, James was promoted into a ranger, adopting the name Skidred to accompany his duties to the camp. As a ranger, he would watch over all of the pasture lands and beyond, all of Creelic Valley, its small lake, the forest in the north and the mountains of the east.
Two more years passed, marking Skidred's 20nth birthday - he was doing his job as a ranger so well, the Mightyenas had retreated to the far back of Creelic Valley; Skidred was about to be elected the youngest leader of the camp, although he 'had much to learn'. Just when his parents admired him the most, a hostile group of powerful Pokemon invaded the valley from the forest. Those Pokemon were dressed with heavy armor - they came across the camp, saw human technology and accused the camp of being 'mechanists'. The term was unknown to everybody, who denied and defended their lands againist the self-proclaiming Knights. But it was all in vain, as they were extremely skilled and armored and Skidred saw that and ordered everyone to flee. However, his father claimed that the residents would die on the lands they grew up. Skidred, being the cynical person he is, left the camp thinking that the value of Pokemon lives was much stronger than the lands, and that they would find house elsewhere.
When the Mightyenas united with the Knights, the camp was truly doomed. Skidred watched his hometown burn and his sisters being thrown high into the air by the Knights, left to die under their own weight when they landed. His cheerful, positive side was compressed that day as he departed for the mountains of the south, leaving Creelic Valley behind.
Having nowhere to go, Skidred wandered in the mountain range in the south for two years, killing every wild Pokemon on sight to release his anger. His peaceful, kindhearted self had died with the others in Creelic Valley - he was starting to become violent and cruel, although he maintained the wisdom his father passed down onto him. He hadn't spoken a word those two years; he only aimed at survival and training through the harsh enviroment of the mountains. He discovered his love for heights, and that the snow and view had helped him synchronize with himself, calming his spirit a bit.
Skidred took the sudden decision of returning to Creelic Valley to see what had been left of his previous hometown. He discovered only ruins, but no signs of Pokemon - only a silver pendant under his house. After all the time he spent being alone refusing to accept the truth, tears just weren't enough to show his sorrow; he figured they would mix with the rain, nobody would see them. The idea of revenge was beyond his train of thoughts which had prevented him from sensing the pack of Mightyenas who were circling around him and attacked him when it was time.
Fully ready and trained, he killed every one of them without his rage clouding his mind; only giving him strength.
He skinned the biggest Mightyena, probably their leader, and announced to the corpses of his enemy that he was now a freelance fighter, the last of the Creels. After that, Skidred crossed Creelic Valley with the Mightyena's fur on his left shoulder; he was headed towards the forest of the north, where he resided until the recent years of his life. He was attacking outsiders and trespassers, but he didn't steal their technology as he was blaming it for the destruction of the camp. He still had his hatchet and his pistol though, and couldn't resist stealing other peculiar objects.
All this fighting he did to steal had made him a veteran of combat, as he had developed his powers to a big extent. In his later years in that forest, when he was 25, he met somebody who promised to take him to some 'Kanto Enclave', where Skidred established bonds with those 'Mechanists', partly blaming them for his sorrow, but siding with them againist the Knights who were directly responsible for what happened in Creelic Valley.
Personality:
Skidred has a natural sense of justice carved into his spirit and a strong passion for righting all the wrongs. He was raised to be focused and dedicated to his cause, and with all the time he spent alone, he has developed great wisdom and an entirely different kind of thinking. Although signs of his old, cheerful side can be often seen, he prefers to be alone and do things himself more than he likes the company of others. Most of his life he spent on fighting, seeing blood almost every-day; he was always cynical, exactly because of that.
Being a Zangoose, Skidred is prideful and thoughtful, his connection to the aura forging his own spirit with a special material; he is also intense and expresses himself that way. He appears to be intelligent and has an extreme understanding of the world, even though he lacks knowledge. Most of all, he is wise although he seems violent at first - the words he does not speak are just as meaningful as the ones he does.
Apart from the flaws of his personality one can see with one look at his behaviour, Skidred is kindhearted and strives for the greater good; he is often seen as the protector of the young and the innocent. Skidred himself does not admit nor comments on that truth, for some strange reason.
Ever since he was young, he is extremely energetic and athletic. As for his battling style, it is rather unique; it heavily depends on his intentions, his goals and the concept of the cause. Skidred will viciously fight for the prevailance of peace, claiming that sacrifices are needed, and his opposition is always required dead. "We do what we must", he is driven by that particular saying his father taught him to follow.
Although he is merciful and believes in the reforming of bad people, those who challenge him into combat are considered dead. He will fight to kill, despite being merciful.
