Do you think the story will be a fusion of the original pair and Emerald's? Be purely like the originals? Have a few add on never been experienced in any previous story in Hoenn? What are you looking forward it terms of the storyline.

I'm thinking they'll be heavily incorporating Emerald's stuff but I guess with the R/S split of Magma/Aqua prevalence? It would be weird if both games had an equal amount of importance on both teams.

Perhaps they could have it follow Emerald's but then have the team that's after the mascot appear more towards the end. Maybe they could have something to do with the new Mega/forme. If it's a forme they could activate it. If it's a mega evolution they could look for the Mega stone and have it mega evolve. Perhaps the megas have permanent weather abilities like the original games and the evil teams are after permanent weather...

It's peculiar since although the games are the same, the storylines differ depending on the version and then there is the Emerald storyline which could throw a spanner in the works. I'd imagine that the Emerald storyline would be incorporated into both games, but with OR being more focused around Team Magma, Groudon and the drought and then AS being centered around Team Aqua, Kyogre and the drizzle. It does seem that these two require a third game to tie up the storyline as Emerald did for the originals, so it will be interesting to see just how they plan to structure the storylines. I am hoping for two slightly altered storylines depending on the version, that would make the games differ slightly from eachother.

What I'm hoping is that it follows the stories from Ruby and Sapphire rather than Emerald.

I'm hoping for Emerald as I want to see Rayquaza stop them. Maybe after Rayquaza comes the story takes a new turn and the mascot hyper beams Rayquaza and the opposite version mascot into the water after they Mega Evolve (or change forme) which will escalate things... as the player and NPC's will be at a loss after their ace to stop the conflict has been dealt with. After that the player will battle the mascot in Origin Cave and capture the mascot like the originals in order to stop it (hopefully it'll be a difficult battle).

I can see Groudon or Kyogre winning their feud depending on the game you have and one of the teams 'succeeding' in their plot, only to have you summon Rayquaza from its slumber on Sky Pillar and it come help quell them, leaving you to clean up the evil team. I don't think that would require a third game to wrap everything up.

I think that may be the case except for the evil team 'winning' as they'll probably regret their actions anyways. Perhaps they try to help us stop the monster they unleashed.

I'm thinking it is a mix of R&S,Emerald and new stuff. Not sure how much new but FR/LG felt newer compared to HG/SS. The fact the mascots look newer makes me think something is going to happen. Not sure but I have a feeling the teams may use the names Alpha Aqua and Omega Magma.

I feel like they would be infusing a lot of stuff from Emerald but also adding in a few new things to spice it up. I'm looking more forward to the after game though, R/S/E had one of the best after games in the Pokemon franchise (In my opinion) and now that we have Wi-Fi and 3 other generations of Pokemon ahead of the originals, I'm excited to see what will be thrown at us!

I guess they'll have to make a distinct fusion between RS and E, but they'd mostly keep to the RS storyline. It's going to be tough, considering with the whole Rayquaza story, people wouldn't like to see it missed out, but they need to keep the spotlight on Kyogre/Groudon.

Maybe they'll make it so that Rayquaza comes but something happens involving the mascot. Maybe it doesn't leave and instead it attacks the player! Rayquaza could come and protect the player, and be flung outside of Sootopolis into the sea. The player then challenges the mascot.

Considering that they are Ruby and Sapphire remakes, I think that they'll keep the events of R/S instead of building off of Emerald. However, it would be enormously awesome if they just mixed some of Emerald's elements and story into Ruby and Sapphire. Top that with some of the new stuff that we'll get, and they would be flawless, IMO.

Unless they're also planning an Emerald remake, but who knows.

Something about the plot has to change, because gen 6 mechanics have destroyed the original story.

Drizzle and Drought no longer bring permanent weather, so how will Magma and Aqua achieve their goals? I believe this has something to do with the "new formes" (which I'm certain are Megas, but that's another topic altogether) we see on the boxart.

As to whether or not the story will focus more on RS or E: the games will certainly have Emerald aspects, no doubt about it. But I'm sure they will retain the major plot elements of RS. I know a lot of people love Emerald, but to me it was very clever to have a team that wasn't evil. Up until RS, only Lance tried to help you stop the evil team. But in gen 3, someone had the common sense to say "wow, this group is pretty evil. How about I gather some people to try and put a stop to them?" In gen 4, Cynthia goes back to being the only person who helps you (granted, that could be in part due to Galactic's strategic use of lame outfits to make people think they weren't threatening), and it was only until gen 5 that we really saw characters besides the player take a stand against the villainous team again.

As great as Emerald is for introducing the Battle Frontier and having Match Call, I'll always prefer RS's plot since it really takes advantage of version differences and makes it known that there are actually people out there who are willing to risk themselves trying to stop an evil organization, not just a 10-11 year old child. I would honestly be very disappointed if these remakes do not have obvious version differences the way the original RS did, and instead took a DP approach to the story.

Not only that, but Drizzle and Drought aren't exclusive to Kyogre and Groudon anymore. Story-wise, why bother with them, you can just get a batch of Politoeds or Vulpixes... and then the main character comes along and cancels out all weather effects with Swablus and Psyducks instead of Rayquaza.

All I'll say is I'm disappointed if those are megas, considering they are so very much the same. They very well could be new formes still, just because mega evos exist doesn't mean every knew forme will be one, especially for legends and especially especially for cover legends.

Very good point! The story and those legends' abilities went hand-in-hand, but now it just sort of falls apart.

They can keep the vast majority of the plot the same but a little bit of change is highly likely, and honestly welcomed, at least by me.

The vast majority of the plot is what made the Hoenn region long. Like we had to go all the way back to Petalburg after going to Lavaridge and then taking the journey right of Mauville, and accomplishing all this without Fly. I think that's what made the games interesting. That being said, the legendary Pokémon focus should be put more on shifting land/sea rather than eternal sunshine/rain.

I agree on the point of expanding the land or sea, but my main concern is that the way Team Magma and Aqua had planned to do so was by using the legendaries' abilities. Groudon and Kyogre were very integral to the plot because of their abilities, and even though they now "don't work" (so to speak) I still can't imagine Team Magma and Aqua would try to reach their goal a different way.

That's where their mega forms should come into play. Perhaps they'll once again get new innovative abilities or something else of that sort, and the plot can be based on their Alpha/Omega forms.
