Greetings to everyone! I have a rather weird as some might call it kind of suggestion.
Its about implementing a fun new system for users. Its the TYPES system! (horay!!)

    So what is it?

    - Basically, there will be different 'groups' that will be 'types'. That is, Fire group, Water group, Grass group.. etc.
Users can join the group they wish to if they meet the requirements.

    How does this work?

    - So what happens is, the admins or moderators choose 18 GREAT members.. They will serve as Type Leaders for the type they choose. They will be the group moderators of their specific type as well. They will decide which members to take in and what is the specialty of the group (I'll explain about this soon).
Type Leaders will be allowed to create a set of minimum requirements for entering their group/type.
For example, atleast 100 posts, be active and friendly, don't have warns etc.

What will be the purpose of the types/groups?

    - They can serve MANY purpose, and its the Type Leader's choice of what specialty their group/type will serve. Some ideas :
Fire Type = For members that love fire type! (duh), for members that love roleplay games!
Ice Type = For members that make sprites and are artistic by nature!
    etc etc
I think you get the point.

    But but... why?

    - FOR FUN ofcourse! We can then meet different members of our same type (literally), share, have fun, discuss.
If its not much to ask the types will have their own little section in this forum, that only admins/mods/type-members can see.
Also we can have the usernames colored by the type we're in?
And more fun things are we can have monthly/yearly type vs type competitions for somethings (maybe online wifi-battles) etc.
We can even have specific inside pokeranks for members that will be given by type leaders, that is a newly joined member in Normal Type group will be given rank : zigzagoon or something (totally upto type leaders), advanced members with huge participation in inside group activites can be given someone strong like
    zangoose or something.

That's the basic idea.. I think we can all have a lot of fun with this! :) lets have a discussion on this.
    What do you guys say?

Also please reply with a specific reason if your answer is no, I spent a lot of time to think this through so please go easy on me :P

What you're describing sounds almost exactly like our Pokemon Clubs section. I'm pretty sure that there's a club for each of the 18 Pokemon types in there, as well as clubs for other Pokemon related things.

    OH!
I feel kinda stupid that I didn't know about that :P
(the forum is soo big i keep getting lost)

But I can still see some changes that I can recommend.. like giving MORE into the types system, almost making it global for the forum.
It shows in our profile what type we have.
We can only join 2 types and that too after certain requirements. Like to get the secondary type, we must have atleast 300 posts.
I mean this will still remain option for everyone, but still give it a slightly higher priority.

And how about type vs type competitions

(psst: lol love your siggy n avatar :P)

I do not see how this system could ever work, especially after reading the "group moderators" and "username colored by type" since I have two things to say.

What would these group mods even serve when we already have staff members who can pretty much do those jobs anyway? And there's higher staff that are already superior because they mod everything. Definitely can't see it working at all because it would just be nothing but clashing with existing staff.

Also, we don't want type-based name colors especially given how many name colors we already have thanks to several staff ranks and four different supporter groups. Secret forums also wouldn't work since you could always donate for supporter and get into the VIP Forum already.

So yeah, as cool of an idea it looks it just won't work here. Just my two cents, but it clashes with what existing usergroups already do in terms of perks and such.

You can have what clubs you're a part of displayed on your profile. Like this: https://www.pokecommunity.com/members/438994

Giving people colored usernames and rank images is just more work for the admins (and talk of username colors drives them nuts). I don't think there's much reason to have official type factions when you can just join the club(s) of the type(s) you want and basically accomplish the same thing. I personally also do not like the idea of splitting PC into a bunch of different factions (there's already the distinction between staff, supporters, and regular members anyway); the community should be more united, not more divided.

However, I think that a type vs type competition would be something cool for the Pokemon Clubs section to do. But that's something you would have to talk to the Pokemon Clubs moderator, Wiicked, about.

But let's see what other people have to say.

You seem to mis-understood this point :) By group mods I meant, that the type leaders will have the ability to moderate the threads in their clubs and the ability to take-in / kick-out the people from their groups. That's all.

Also, we don't want type-based name colors especially given how many name colors we already have thanks to several staff ranks and four different supporter groups. Secret forums also wouldn't work since you could always donate for supporter and get into the VIP Forum already.
I do see the point in here, that's why I said its optional, and I guess it can't be just implemented unless its forced, I believe no one will be agreeing to FORCE add the colors.
But just to give the point, Its very possible to diffrentiate between the special members and other members via easy CSS styles.. example :
members in fire group = just orange
Staff = BOLD, have an outer glow (using text-shadows). etc

I see your points. Thanks for the reply :)

    @Zekrom :

I believe that clubs has already incorporated most of the things that I had in my mind. But its not really popular in here (i feel).. ( or maybe not just more visible that people are part of groups)

Colors for type groups have just to be incorporated once by Admins, then its the type-leaders job to take members in and hence they get auto-colored. Not much of a hassle for them.
Pokeranks can be made to be changable by group-mods too.

I do see that it might divide the forum more and how united forum is better, but its not really as it seems.
I have been in some forums where something like this was incorporated, not only does it make things interesting for users but it really gives a more diverse interaction between people.. We can all raise our certain skills by friendly competitions and everything, I just don't really see how it will be problematic in future.

sorry if we're not allowed to double post

But we can raise our skills by friendly competition within the sections that house those skills too. Artists can participate in art contests, writers can participate in writing contests, battlers can Pokemon battle. What if I like roleplaying but hate fire types? I would do what it is now - not be in a type, but roleplay in the Roleplay Corner.

I think it would be cute to add a "type" feature to our profiles just like we have "Nature" right now. I think your suggestion would require an entire overhaul of the forums to make it work though, and personally I already think the supporters have too many colors. To add 17 more type colors to that would make my eyes bleed.

PC also has an issue with not being able to get enough activity in some sections; taking away activity by introducing a second forum that serves the same purpose would mean both forums deserted.

That is certainly true that I didn't really thought of it specifically for this forum, I let my mind flow without any limitations, and that's why I need you people who are much more active here than me to tweak it and suggest how it can be put to use. :)

like I said in the first post, I said the things like a specific section should be optional.. We can simply have it later on if this system of types become popular.

I completely disagree that colors can be eyebleeding though. Firstly, our Name occupies REALLY less space on the page.. Its no way that eye-grabbing at all. And secondly, there are always lighter and much more suitable shades of colors available of any particular color :)

I believe this system would be better than the clubs system we have (meaning no offense to anyone please), as it comprises of competitions, and all that a club has..

I actually wouldn't mind a new "Favorite type(s)" profile field that generates an icon corresponding to said type(s) on your postbit (perhaps beside the "currently online" indicator or below your usertitle/rank description), but a group system as complex as you describe would probably be a bit too ambitious and unwieldy...and there's also the fact that the "Pokémon Fan clubs" section probably covers all those bases already.

I'm not saying that there will be the Clubs AND the types system together. Ofcourse only 1 will stay if we think sensibly.
And I really feel a pokerank would be pretty cute too! The type leader's pokerank can be the strongest legendary of their type ..and other pro members inside can have slightly weaker legendary pokerank.
they can be in profile too, just a little sprite.
come to think of it, what's a forum all about? Great discussions of things we like and systems that makes our discussions interesting and overall things should look pretty. That's it.

Even more so, this system gives us reasons to role play.. Type Leader can easily role play their favorite elite of that type or gym leader of that type.

so anyone else have to say something on this?
    Perhaps any staff member?
