Theming etc

Okay, so, first and foremost, we need to settle on a theme. The main options for what we want to lean into seems to be

1. PC's Anniversary

2. Spooky month

Does anyone have a preference? I actually do have an idea for how we could combine the two into something really cool there as well if anyone is interested.

Both? Spooky Anniversary!

So, what if we did something almost day of the dead-esque for the theme? I don't want to lean into that aesthetic or anything, but it's the closest real world example I can think of right now. Maybe we can do something based around the clans from PL:A (chuck in a Platinum group if we want a third "team" or something) conducting a traditional summoning of their deity into the world/sending spirits across to its domain on a set anniversary. Maybe it's even a competitive thing, only one side gets to do so and if they lose they have to wait for the next special anniversary?

It's only a really loose concept right now.

I actually kind of like the Day of the Dead idea here -- or at least something inspired by it. It's on brand for what Pokémon GO has done in the past and I don't recall us ever using that theming before? Plus, it's observed in enough unique ways all over the world that pulling team and event ideas wouldn't be terribly challenging. Obviously ghosts / skeletons make a generous appearance in terms of imagery, but flowers and fire are also fundamental to the celebration of an "all souls day". We could choose Pokémon as team mascots (ghost/grass/fire) and redesign them to match (if we want to go with teams, that is). Winning team is "sacrificed" for another year of good blessings for PC. :p

Another thing we could consider is doing a "Classic Movie Monsters" theme, which can sort of tie in a bunch of supernatural imagery without tethering anything to a specific irl holiday/nation. Plenty of Pokémon can be interpreted as being inspired by old school Monster designs and it also celebrates media that is.... a little outdated! Like black & white films and internet forums, lol.

I'd prefer something more in this direction than just a movie-monsters kinda theme because we can lean hard into it being a PC anniversary thing. I'll see if I can get something written up more properly over the next few days for review if that's cool with you guys?

Sounds great! I'd be happy to draw up a few designs for restyled Pokémon for everyone's approval too. :D Excited to see what kind of narrative you can put together, hehe.

This will fit in nicely with both a competitive and co-operative GT so I'm on board. I know you're putting something together but what do we think about said deities? Do we tie them into PC itself or no? I'm kinda thinking a tie-in somehow back to GT 2016 (I think) where we had the 4 houses and maybe relating back to those? Not saying we need 4 teams because that for me is a LOOOOOOOOOOOOT but just more of an example.

I would prefer to perhaps go to Scarlet/Violet rather than P:LA if we're doing that just because it will be the more recent game at the time. We could almost incorporate both in the sense of using SV's timeline themes and having like the team of the 'Past' trying to summon/do something whilst the team of the 'Future' is trying to prevent that from happening by going back or something.

I have to say, I just love the idea of the winning team "losing" for the 'greater good' of PC, so we really have to include this in some capacity! Happy with both aspects, I definitely would look into alternate Pokémon forms and such.

Sorry that I cannot also contribute something á la writeups/art, but I may start putting some threads together just to start off discussions around the GT itself.

So... something like

There is a special time for the PokeCommunity. Every X years, on the anniversary of the PokeCommunity's formation, the barrier between the world of the spirits and the mortal realm is at its thinnest. It is only during this time that people can pass from one side to the other. It is only during this time that [deific figures here] can reach beyond the veil and impart their blessings upon us.

Of course, such blessings are not free and [figures here] will not give such boons if enough spirits do not pass into their waiting grasp. Of course, not everyone wishes for the same blessings and only so much can pass through the barrier, even at this time. So it was that a festival was established - the Get Together, where mortals can ask for blessings and give themselves to the world of spirits to obtain them.

Every X years, the clans of PokeCommunity compete for the honour of having some of their membership ascend to join the spirits and beseech their deity for its blessings. The Scarlet Clan ask for the wrongs of the past to be righted, while the Violet Clan ask for good fortune in the future. Neither will concede to the other. So it is that the competition begins anew as a new Get Together is upon us.

I tried to incorporate all that we talked about (assuming something competitive) and make into something cohesive. If we do go with this, I'll need to refine the wording further still because that could be better, but for now it'll do. Thoughts?

I love that. Bringing in S&V lore, staying true to the anniversary, and throwing in some spooky entities that judges the participants fate? Perfect.

If y'all don't mind, I'm gonna start just loosely working on these "deified Pokémon" under the whole "day of the dead" umbrella. I'm still thinking we go with ghost/fire/grass type Pokémon, but I'll post a few sketches, get some feedback, and we'll see where it takes us.

Amazing! I like that it's managed to stay spooky whilst also sticking to both Halloween and Scarlet/Violet (and Cats) as influences. Plus, it's super easy to change depending on the teams we have or whether it's a competitive or co-operative GT!

Only thing is maybe change the clan names? But we can flesh that out a bit more once we have more details in; I think something akin to the mascots Jo is putting together would be nice!

So just to keep this updated - we've decided to keep it to two teams and stick with the PC x Day of the Dead x ScarVio vibe, with Decidueye and Marowak being the mascots of choice.

What do we want to do regarding naming the two teams etc? Do we go with names akin to say Doctrina/Vestigo etc. (so a name in another language that's the general team vibe) or maybe play more into the spooky side? Something like, these are placeholder names don't hurt me, Cult of Marowakus vs. Followers of Deciduosa? Just firing off in directions again to get something going, obviously happy to look at other suggestions!

Honestly, I'd be fine with just "Scarlet and Violet". If we want to do something more flavourful though, I'd be up for trying to lean into a spookier vibe. Flowers are pretty commonly used in day of the dead-themed art and there's a lot of spooky imagery related to them. Maybe we could do something using that? Alternatively - Cult of Clubs/Bones and Cult of Thorns/Feathers?

I definitely want something other than just Scarlet/Violet - this is a special anniversary for PC if nothing else!

I could go with something to tie into that theme for sure - I have been looking at like "themes" and such of Day of the Dead and I agree that it would be cool if we can somehow incorporate them into our theming; three things (to try and keep it simple) I picked out were marigolds/chrysanthemums/gladioli and therefore orange/white/purple as something to focus on?
