These games need continuity

I don't know if there is another thread on this or if it's been discussed before but I got to thinking...

I can't really get into the games like I used to because I'll put all of that effort into the game and then, essentially, start over when the next game releases. What I think would be cool is the idea of continuity as a trainer in the game. Instead of starting the next game as a "newbie" trainer with a level 5 pokemon..simply port your prior trainer, pokedex, and pokemon. That way you'll start in the next region with your prior 8 gym badges and you can build your trainer up that way.

    What do you guys think?

It would make the games boring as hell if there wasn't any risk of losing.

    Agreed.

What would be the point of playing if you're just going to plow through the game with your team of ubers? :\

    It'd be ok....

IF: You started off, with, like the 1st gym having levels of around 50-55, and you only being allowed to import pokemon lv.50 or below. That way you'd still work at it, but they'd know you as the champion of (in this case, Sinnoh, if it was the 5th Gen).

But what fun is it if you don't have any other games?

@the first two posters: The game would be scaled. New players would face opponents like they do now and "continuing" players would face teams leveled appropriately.

Still isn't a good idea, as eventually you would hit the roof of level 100. Since everyone would be in the 95-100 area range, it would be boring.

I'd rather see that disk space include more minigames, sidequests, and larger maps rather than a scaling of levels according to your own.

I don't know what but for me something needs to be added. I hate shellin out 40 bucks to redo what I just did in the prior game..

Its pretty stupid to be fair...
Think, You get all your pokemont o level 100.
Next game you would have level 100 pokemon pwning level 10s - 90s

Either that ro you could get pokemon over level 100s.

I like starting over completely new.

There has been one game that did this actually... to a vague extent. Pokemon Colosseum has you start with a pair of level 20-odd Pokemon - and they're Espeon and Umbreon. However it's not a ported-over trainer or anything, and the opposing Pokemon match your Pokemon's levels more or less anyways.

As said prior to this- things would get boring, and fast. I dunno about you, but part of the appeal of Pokémon, for me anyway, is starting out as a total nobody with a level 5 Pokémon then rising up the ranks, putting a gang of criminals in their place, and becoming the undisputed champion of your region.

It's the most cliché story ever, but it has its appeal.

pokemon is a growing franschise, and gigantic, so, as with Zelda games, the game maintain their high sales by being able to be picked up in no particular order and not missing anything because the story repeats in different games, it works, and quite frankly, not many stories would last this long

I've got here a great game that had continuity and a great game that didn't.

    Golden Sun and Final Fantasy.

Where Final Fantasy is now up to its 13th mainstream game with who-knows-how-many spin-offs, Golden Sun has one sequel and a planned DS game.

Also, my good friend, it's called trading.

    I agree!

But I can see where you're going with this. I would like the idea of keeping my old badges and character and just kind of move to a new region. I think they should just let you import your starter, badges and character.

Thats not really a problem for me because the game are so diffrent for different Pokemon I don't mind.

I agree that the games could use a little more continuity. I don't think importing your trainer is the best way to go about this, though. I think something like mixing records from R/S/E, where you can battle your old trainer with your new one, who is now the champion, like Red in G/S/C/HG/SS. You somehow connect the two games, it reads your current party from the older game, and makes a level-scaled version of them in the new game, hidden away somewhere, waiting to battle you.

Or, even better, have it unlock a new side-quest where you help your old trainer with something, like defeating the evil team from the first game's region who have started invading the new game's region.

Then don't. If you get bored, don't play it.

    Duh?

Silly, jason, if Pokemon has continuity, the cartridge would explode in your DS, hahahah. But seriously, no. What's the point?

I like starting over. It brings a new challenge every game. Seriously, if they did that whole continuity thing, there would be no challenge, especially if you're like me and get a full team of level 100's. What you could do is import your multiplayer battle records, trainer name/ID, pokedex info, and badges from the previous region, but then move to a new region to start over and leave your rival in the old one to take your place as champion. Then, everyone refers to you as the (insert region name here) champion who wanted a new challenge, so they moved and started over.

    That'd be neat.

Because my only problem with it is that, you're the champion, you've defeated the Battle Frontier, completed your pokedex, then you just hang around battling the same people again!!

I wish in Hg/Ss you could battle Blue/Green (the female character) aswell as Red.

I do like that idea of importing your trainer from another game, and battling him/her and/or helping them defeat some evil people.

I reckon it'd be possible if nintendo did a survey, found out what pokemon people'd had in their team when they started out, and put their starter plus the 5 most popular choices (or the region Legendary, to make it more of a challenge). And insert the rivals from the previous game.

So, in 5th Gen you'd battle:

    Diamond/Lucas: Torterra/Giratina/???/???/???/???
    Platinum/Dawn: Empoleon/Palkia/???/???/???/???
    Pearl/Barry: Infernape/Dialga/???/???/???/???

I chose them starters going from the credits on D/P/Pt intro
