Personally, I hate it, I always liked Pokemon games, because once you buy them, you don't have to worry about buying anything else.

I don't need more storage, but I want to send Pokemon over, and I don't think I should have to pay for that.

    Thoughts?

I hear you over the Transfer, i mean.. i know 5 bucks a year is not that much, i dont want the space, but really... 5$ just to transfer pokemon? Not cool... remember how in gen 4 you used the gba slot to transfer? Fantastic, From gen 4 to 5 two Ds were needed as much. Now you have backwards compatibility with the 3ds YET you have to pay? Not anyway cool... now i may sound cheap but hey its my opinion... i get the point that it was probably made thinking also about hacked pokemon but really. 5 - 6 hours to breed a pokemon at first its easy... but what if i want to try out 30 + pokemon? Breeding is fine...but the replay value gets low... and i lose interest in the game...

Really it's not a big deal to never have to deal with needing to borrow another DS or mess about with pokemon transfer mini-games or have to keep a chain of several old games around to transfer your pokemon between one step at a time ever again

It's not so bad. You don't need a 2nd 3DS or person in order to trade with yourself like you did in the past. It's also way faster than previous transfer methods were (and anyone who says otherwise has obviously not transferred Pokémon from Gen 3 to 4, or 4 to 5). And the storage is massive. 5 bucks a year is pretty good too, seeing how most other companies would probably charge you much more than that for a yearly service.

It is a little bit annoying how something that was once a free and entirely in-game thing is now not like that when it didn't really have to be (though it's probably impossible for the game or 3DS to hold the data of 3000+ Pokémon in it as well as the game itself).

    But it could be worse.

They have to pay for it somehow, and for $5 a year, that's not too shabby.

wow, so people complain about $5 PER YEAR as being horrible to store AND transfer pokemon (people keep forgetting it's not JUST to transfer pokemon from an old game to a new game) but when you start a new game you can get your old pokemon right away almost at the start of a new game. (so you can breed what you want and start a new game with what you bred)

It's also future proofing yourself so you can keep pokemon through subsequent games and keep transferring up and as the years go by saving all those unique or special pokemon so that when future games come out you have something good that you don't need now to trade for one of those new pokemon that come out in future games. (I myself have two boxes full of legendaries, including 3 Zygardes, that while right now no one wants, in the future could prove quite useful. I remember in gen 3 EVERYONE had a Rayquaza because it was in every Hoenn game, but now it seems like everyone wants one and Zygarde will likely be the same in a few years)

HOWEVER, $5 per year is just a horrible, horrible thing, and people would rather spend the money on a second DS or yet another remake in order to get pokemon not currently available? the $40 spent on a pokemon game pays for 8 YEARS of Pokebank. Just saying. Seriously, a large bag of chips is $4. Perspective! ;-)

I don't mind PokeBank being a paid service to use. In my eyes, it is just the most recent thing I have to pay just one month to be able to use for a year. As for it only costing $5, it is only one 12th the amount I have to pay for one year's Gold membership of Xbox Live.

I don't mind it at all!! The only reason I have it is for extra storage space and to clone. I find it useful and since it's only 5 bucks a month it's really not much

Well, a yearly subscription fee is only one step away from a monthly one. My worry is that the lack of significant backlash over this will send the message that future fees - perhaps larger, or on a more regular basis - will be seen as acceptable or even agreeable.

It isn't an unreasonable amount to ask, and if I didn't have a second 3DS - and now no need for the service, because I got everything I wanted onto my file during the trial period - I'd probably consider it. But it does make me concerned for what the future holds. I don't want to see Pokemon become a micro-transaction, subscription-fueled corporate goldmine. It's complete unnecessary considering how well the games sell, at the very least.

To be honest I don't mind it, I mean $5.99 a year? I find it usefull, now in a year or two from now or whenever it is that the next gen comes out, hopefully they update it so we can use it and so on and so forth...

I'm all right with it. Paying five to six dollars a year for a thing like this is definitely worth it. :] Plus, it's not that expensive at all; other games make a lot more money from us via DLC and such, but this isn't the case for Pokémon.

I'm not really happy that I have to pay money just to transfer Pokemon, that's why I still never tried to use Pokemon Bank today. My mother is way too much of a money-saver and therefore she forbids me from paying for unnecessary stuff.

That's the very unfortunate stuff that happens when you're the daughter of a pensioner.

Lol, funny because I feel pretty much the same way. It may just be 'pocket change,' but frankly, I'm tired of game companies taking our pocket change several times over to cover everything from "little" server fees to extra DLC. (Especially when the DLC is regarded as the 'real' ending to the game. Seriously guys?)

Anywho. Sure, it's only $5. It's the same cost as soy milk. But it's still $5 I'd rather have in my pocket for that soy milk.

I like to think of it as spending $5 a year so I don't have to buy a 2nd console. In that regard, it's SUPER cheap. Oh, it's $6.50 p/a here in Australia and I still think it's super cheap! :D

How many years have games had online monthly services though? It's not a new thing and just because some games have monthly services doesn't mean anything will. $5 a year is actually more than just one step away from monthly fees (How many games have 6 month and 3 month payment options? ) but again though, people tend to panic when they charge $5 a year for a service like this, yet how many of those same people bought both X AND Y (when they're basically the exact same game) then will buy the alleged Hoenn remakes, then will buy pokemon Z, then the Wii U version, and tried the pokebank trial just to transfer their pokemon from Black 2 because they had the pokemon stored in that game from when they collected from White 2, Black, and white who in turn got a bunch of pokemon transferred to them from Heart Gold, Soul Silver, Diamon, Pearl and Platinum, WHICH IN TURN had pokemon in there collected from Ruby, Saphire, Emerald, Fire Red, Leaf Green, Collosseum and XD? So added up (with taxes) spending around $1,000 over the past decade or so is fine, but when it comes to $5 a year for an online service people are worried that it's going to become too focused on money? Come may 20 you won't be able use any online features on any previous Pokemon games anymore, so I think $5 a year for a permanent online solution is pretty great and very worth the money.

I really don't mind having to pay the fee. $5 isn't that bad at all and it's necessary to keep the servers working since that isn't cheap. It's not as bad as needing two DSs to trade which would ironically be more expensive than the Pokébank if you don't have a friend with a DS handy.

At first when I heard about PokeBank I was a bit miffed it was going to cost JUST to store Pokemon and transfer them. But the idea grew on me a bit more once I began to collect shiny Pokemon and EV train some too. Now I can keep them and transfer them when I want to start my game over again to do a challenge or something. The only thing I am kinda of annoyed about is the fact that I couldn't just pay the £4 odds, but actually had to deposit £10, since it will only accept certain amounts. I'm not cheap or anything, but it was the last of my money ><

If you don't really grow attached to your Pokemon at all, it's a waste though.

Compared to the microtransactions in other online video game content, especially those on Xbox live, 5$/year is absolutely negligible. In addition, it's granted me the ability to breed a couple of baby pokémon, super train them, transfer them to my bank, restart the game, and withdraw them so that I can run through the game with new and interesting pokémon combinations. :D

You fail to take into account that not everyone WANTS to use the PokeBank service and ONLY wants to transfer their old mons into the new game. If the PokeTransfer feature was something completely seperate from and not a forced option to go with the PokeBank, no one would be complaining.

Five bucks is indeed cheap, but spending any kind of money on an app you don't give a damn about just so you can enjoy having your old buddies back into the new game is a bogus method of bilking on Game Freak's part.

PS: Have you guys heard of cases where the springs of the 3DS cartridge reader gets damaged due to this new method of transferring Pokemon? Almost further proof that Game Freak screwed up with this gen.

I don't think soy milk can last a year though. :P
