Pikachu is the franchise's mascot, so of course it'll get the most exposure. It's not a matter of fairness, just marketing.

And it's not like Ash is scared to evolve Pikachu, it's been repeatedly established that Pikachu doesn't want to evolve.

Pikachu does get the most attention, but like jabberwocky said, he's the mascot. Even people who know nothing about pokemon know what a Pikachu is.

I would agree that it's a bit unfair that Pikachu's popularity doesn't carry over to the other evolutions. But for what it's worth, Pichu gets a lot of my attention. Especially the spiky-eared one. I mean just look at it, with its silly arms crossed like that. And I've thought Raichu's design was really cool ever since the RBY days.

Also, I think Pichu plays a pretty big role in one of the movies. And I think Gold has a Pichu in the manga.

I think Pichu gets a lot of attention too. Not as much since Pikachu is the face of Pokemon, but a pretty good amount. I always felt like they don't do much for Raichu because it's not viewed as cute as its previous evolutions, which I find unfortunate because it's my favorite of the line.

I personally would be for Pikachu finally evolving even though I haven't watched the anime in a million years, but I'd imagine the people who do watch would rage and cry endlessly so I doubt it will ever happen.

Pikachu's both the series mascot, and is owned by the main character of the anime, so of course it gets all the love. Pichu gets recognition due to being in a Super Smash Bros game, and it's a baby Pokemon. They're cute, and the fans love cute, so Pichu's brought to attention. That, and the Pichu Bros. Those two were adorable, and boosted Pichu's recognition a bit more.

If Ash's Pikachu evolved, I wouldn't really mind as I don't watch the anime often, but I'm sure the Pikachu fanbase would be mad lol.

Anyone that knows what Pokemon is knows Pikachu, so I think it's easily justified that it gets as much of the spotlight that it currently does. Sure, it might get a little old for those of us that have been following the series (whether it be the games, anime, etc.), but I can't imagine how many people got into Pokemon after first seeing that little electric rodent.

And while Pichu isn't nearly as popular as Pikachu, it's still faired much better than Raichu has. We've gotten special event Pichu in HeartGold, and the Pichu brothers in the anime. Though, it seems like with every passing generation, we get new cute, electric rodents to be featured alongside Pikachu (Pichu in II, Plusle/Minun in III, Pachirisu in IV, Emolga in V and Dedenne in VI). They'll never be able to replace Pikachu at the mascot, but at least they keep it from being the only Pokemon in the spotlight.

It's the way the cookie crumbles. The anime can only feature select Pokémon, Ash can't have all the Kanto Pokémon as his starter, and they can only have one protagonist for the anime. The same way, Ash can't be followed by a hundred people having all types of Pokémon.

When they started the anime, they probably had in mind the idea of starting another generation, with new Pokémon and a new journey. So they wanted someone that is Ash's partner forever, and the effect would be ruined by evolution, since Ash would have to start afresh. That's probably when Pikachu became Pokémon's mascot.

It's just too bad Pikachu evolves at all, really. Pikachu should have been a standalone, so that they don't associate Pikachu with other Pokémon.

I can't stand the anime. Pikachu is pretty much as normal as any other pokemon in my eyes.

Either way, I like pichu better :)

I happen to like Raichu most out of the three! I always evolve my Pikachu in the games if I can (obviously in the first game I ever had a Pikachu in, Yellow, it wasn't possible). And I don't really feel like breeding and get Pichu, I'd rather just capture a Pikachu and level it from there.

In the anime, they made Pichu kind of useless by taking its pokédex entry literally and making it hurt itself (even fainting) when it used electrical attacks. And they made Pikachu seem more badass than Raichu early on by letting the fast Pikachu win against Lt Surge's slow Raichu, meaning that it had evolved too soon.

So I totally see where you're coming from saying this, but personally I love Raichu and I still prefer Pichu design- and movepoolwise to other electric rodents such as Plusle/Minun and Pachirisu.

While Pichu is adorable and Raichu is also adorable and stronger than Pikachu, they do not and will not ever get as much "special treatment" because Pikachu is the mascot of Pokemon and the other two are not. Pikachu is my all time favorite pokemon and I can't say I mind all of the attention he gets, though I do know it annoys some people, but no matter who they picked as the mascot, I have a feeling people would still think the same about whoever they chose.
It doesn't mean Raichu is no good or anything (he is) but they only have one mascot, it doesn't mean you can't like Raichu or Pichu or use them, just that they will never be exploited as much as Pikachu is.

I actually really like Raichu's design. Pikachu is a mascot like everyone else before me has already established but it's also the main protagonist's first Pokemon so for most people who've been playing for a while, Pikachu was probably one of the first Pokemon they saw. Firsts tend to have a fonder spot in the heart.

Agreeing with most of Rika's post here. Pikachu is the mascot so therefore gets special treatment such as having its anime voice for its cry in Yellow and X/Y, along with also being Ash Ketchum's main Pokemon in the anime. It's also a Pokemon that can appeal to both genders when it comes to the targeted market, unlike the original intended mascot that was Clefairy.

And yeah Pichu is pretty pathetic, they even made it hurt itself when it attacks in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

But Charizard is a mascot of Pokemon too, and Charmander is just as famous as him. Same goes for Venusaur/Bulbasaur and Blastoise/Squirtle. So maybe OP has a point in saying Pichu deserves a bit more attention.

Thing is also that Pichu and Raichu are very similar to Pikachu. Why give more similar pokémon attention when we have Pikachu? It makes more sense to put attention to Charizard or Lucario or some other semi-mascot.
