  • Whoa, didn't know this was a thing. Still, it'll keep me updated while skipping some of the more tedious parts I was talking about earlier. Thanks, fenyx!

    No problem! :D Additionally, you can also visit the Twitch Plays Pokemon subreddit for more TPP hi-jinks and stuff. Each day of the stream has a "daily thread" used for discussion, along with neat artwork and other tidbits that come up. In my opinion, the best time to visit the subreddit is whenever something important is happening/has happened (like when we've just defeated a Gym Leader, found an important item, suffered a devastating loss, or screwed something up majorly).

    Also, for those who don't want any of the future randomized stuff spoiled (like what the legendary Pokemon have been changed into, if at all), beware of the Twitch Plays Pokemon chat (the Reddit live-updater should be safe, though, unless some jerk goes and abuses his or her reporting powers). Apparently, someone has posted what the third starter Pokemon (that wasn't chosen by the player or the rival during the FireRed run) would've been and what the Helix Fossil would've revived into...and then subsequently posted spoilers for a good chunk of stuff (primarily, what the legendary Pokemon will be, what the Dome Fossil will be, and what the teams of future Trainers like Gym Leaders, the Elite 4, and the Champion will consist of); all of which was done by reverse-engineering the seed that we received from the random-number-generator (RNG) of our current game file for FireRed. Currently, the TPP subreddit moderators have removed or encoded any spoilers in that particular thread (and I'm guessing in other subreddit threads), but keep in mind that the spoilers have essentially been spread with wild abandon across the Internet (mainly, some rogues spoiling the contents in the TPP chat)..

    I'm surprised that someone managed to decompile all of that information already; I thought we would have to wait until we at least beat the game (deductions were seemingly made based on the Abilities and moves of some of the Pokemon we have captured and/or encountered and fought)! I really wish the original decompiler had just posted the identities of the third starter Pokemon and the Helix Fossil and left it at that (since those Pokemon will be unobtainable in our current run, unless the file has been modified somehow)... But now, as others have said, the damage has been done, and Pandora's Box has been released. T_T This occurrence greatly saddens me; the chat is one of the best things of TPP, and now I don't think I'll be able to look at it at all (which frustrates me because the chat is one of the more significant/crucial sources for the memes that we've encountered). One person has suggested Operation Random Is As Random Does (re-randomize the seed that we're used), although I'm unsure how I feel about it - it feels divisive and "alters" our journey in a manner that seems excessive to me (with the lore being fragmented, as certain entities will hail from different "seed segments" of the run)..

    On a optimal note, the newfound/newly-developed lore will be quite interesting due to the "spoilers".. Some people are dubbing the act of posting spoilers in advance of their occurrence as "The Prophecy".. It's also startling how we can liken the run to a videogame...the "unattainable stuff" (like the third starter Pokemon) could be seen as Dummied Out (unused) content (stuff that's usually mined and discovered after people get hard at work in decompiling the data on a game's given cartridge/disk), while the spoilers themselves for stuff that can/will happen could be perceived as "leaks" (similar to the ones that occurred with Greninja and Hawlucha in the weeks prior to the official Pokemon X and Y release of October 12, 2013.

    Finally, I'm guessing the "ROT13 cipher" (a cipher that shifts letters by 13 positions) is going to become a little memetic in the TPP fandom, since that is what is being used to encode a lot of the "spoilers" on the TPP subreddit. Woo-hoo; today I learned about ciphering! ^^ Team Cipher relevance..?
    ROT13 Cipher Explanation:

    Map A-Z for values 0-25. He said ROT13, which means rotate 13. So add 13 to the number you currently have and that's your new number. It wraps around once you pass Z = 25.
    For example, A = 0 -> N = 13

    I just noticed that there's a Hyperbug flair (a small icon of Surskit using the move Hyper Beam) on the TPP subreddit; so adorable! {<3} Also, I can't wait to see what the Sevii Island wild Pokemon have been randomized to!

    (TL;DR - BEWARE OF TPP FIRERED SPOILERS)

    Platinum will begin in 14 hours, is anyone able to watch at that time?
    Better question: Is anyone still watching the stream, even occasionally?

    I kinda stopped watching mid-way through the FR run. Just lost interest. I will be watching Platinum, though. I wonder how the controls for that game are going to work. There's definitely going to be more then FireRed.

  • Finally someone else posted. XD Regarding the Pokemon FireRed run, congrats to A and her team for triumphing over the Kanto Pokemon League! The only Gym battle I got to watch was the one against Gym Leader Blaine (whose specialty was randomized to Steel-type Pokemon), and I only got to watch the beginning of it as my computer lab had to close just as the battle was getting underway. Talk about timing. ;-; (Sigh...at least I got to hear the FireRed/LeafGreen rendition of "Battle! VS Gym Leader (Kanto)", though!) The chat got through Kanto's Victory Road and the Indigo Plateau insanely quick; I think one time I checked they had just entered Victory Road, and like 12-15 hours later, I found out that the game was beaten already (or maybe that I found out that we were already battling Elite 4 members; it's hard to keep track - all I know is that insane progress was made in a 12-15-hour time period when I later checked the stream).. The FireRed/LeafGreen Elite Four was beaten laughably quick compared to how many retries were needed for the Hoenn Elite 4...I think the Kanto Elite Four needed less than 10 challenges total! {XD} (Hoenn supremacy, wut wut)

    The 3 "hidden" legendary Pokemon apparently got swapped with Latios, Mew, and Mewtwo (I was really hoping for a Regi or Jirachi/Deoxys...sigh..) Apparently, we knocked out Latios (who had used Perish Song) and immediately fled from Mewtwo in terror. {XD} Wow...for all the spoilers that I was trying to avoid, I didn't even see any of the legendary encounters as they happened.. :(

    I liked that Gary/Green/the rival received a different type specialty for some of (each of?) his battles (except Kingdra line, which was consistent across the battles due to being his starter Pokemon); he was apparently a Normal-type specialist in his Champion role...

    Too bad that Truant Machop didn't receive that much use! Amusingly, the Pokemon who normally gets Truant, Slaking, still ended up as a part of our team (only that he didn't XD).

    Platinum will begin in 14 hours, is anyone able to watch at that time?
    Better question: Is anyone still watching the stream, even occasionally?

    I doubt I'll be watching much of this run... I'm going to be unable to watch the actual start of the Pokemon Platinum game file, and I have final exams in the upcoming week (requiring rigorous study), all of which take priority over Twitch Plays Pokemon... :( I might find time to tune in during study breaks, but I doubt it.. I'll probably have to resort to skimming the TPP Platinum TVTropes webpage..

    During intermission, I watched Peggle Dual Shot (a DS game) being played for a while.. It was, ah, quite something, sporting a unicorn named Bjorn who seems to be endlessly walking.. {XD}

    In the meantime, prior to Platinum's beginning, Pokemon Stadium 2 CPU-vs.-CPU matches are underway, and players/the chat can bet at least $100 "Poke Dollars" (IIRC) on Red team or Blue team. I honestly like the setup of it; the match outcomes are fun to watch unravel! Recently, there was Butterfree, Cyndaquil, and Chinchou vs Tentacruel, Lanturn, and Flaafy. Chinchou was a bit dumb by using Rain Dance repeatedly, and Cyndaquil surprised many people by using Dig as a last bid against Lanturn (but Cyndaquil also dimly used Flamethrower against a Water-type Pokemon, Lanturn, during heavy rain battle conditions). We also had "Chinchou vs. Lanturn" very briefly, although Chinchou was already worn down..

    There was also a battle involving Kabuto (DOME's embodiment) and Articuno on the same team! Although Articuno never got sent out... In any case, I hope someone is archiving these Pokemon Stadium 2 CPU battles; they're quite amusing!

    The Platinum touch-screen controls will be quite interesting to witness (reminds me of when I suggested Twitch Plays RuneScape one time, which is similar in concept requiring clicking on a large grid rather than simple directional inputs and basic-button inputs), let alone how the Distortion World is handled with its offbeat physics... Also, I'm wondering how the chat will take on Professor Rowan's "diabolical" tutorial...

    EDIT: ROFL, there was just a battle of Pikachu, Wartortle, Zapdos (Blue Team) vs Sneasel, Weepinbell, Ledyba (Red Team). Pikachu (who somehow got frozen) got thoroughly assaulted by Sneasel using Beat Up. The last 2 combatants were Zapdos vs. Ledyba. For some reason, Zapdos kept on spamming Flash even when it could have ended the thing easily with Thunder. Ledyba managed to avoid getting electrocuted and nailed Zapdos with a frightening Ice Punch. It's a dark day for Zapdos (and legendary Pokemon in general).. I mean, I knew the Pokemon Stadium 2 rental Pokemon were suck-ish, but not by that much. XD

    EDIT 2: I really wish that the Pokemon Stadium 2 audio (which has battle music and Pokemon/Poke Ball/victory fanfare sound effects) was being played rather than the current Pokemon Platinum audio, which just loops the Platinum arrangement of the main Pokemon theme ad nauseum. :/

    TPP is in Distortion World now. I wonder how long this will take.

    Oh and, they have a Flareon called Solareon. Highest level, decent moves, no disasters had happened since it joined. First Fire-type to make it to the Hall of Fame?
