Ultimate Monotype Challenge Thread

After being completely inactive for over 8 months (bleh school), I will return with my ice-monotype run. I might start Johto all over or I'm hoping I can find my old data which was on an emulator. I'm fine either way.

Off-topic: Wow my post was #2222 which seems pretty special for my return.

Darn, I just found out that my file and emulator have been lost so I will start from the beginning of Crystal when I get the chance. Lots of restarting, I think, for most of my challenges.

Noooooooo.... I don't wanna get rid of 'lil Elekid now, he beat the first gym and got to Floaroma before I read the posts here :(. I've become attached to him now... sniffle...

This should be a rule. "If there is a pokemon not available till after the seventh gym, you may hack it's first form in" or something. Because then you miss out on valuable pokemon. Most people think "Right, he appears too late, stuff that, I ain't getting him.

I've seen people use pikachu in johto, and myself planning on using Durant though. :I I don't know, the late Pokemon are usually very good Pokemon, that can be used like in your Lanturn in hoenn Zeus :)

Fire Ultimate Monotype Challenge - Update #1

Fire Type UMC - Blue #2
Ok, Blue update number 2.
-Beat all the trainers up till Bill, and got the SS ticket.
-Challenged Misty and lost. Crap.
-Ground Firestorm up to level 33, where he learned a horribly overpowered Gen I supermove: Slash. Destroyed Misty, then moved on to the SS Anne. Firestorm dominated the SS Anne, evolving into a Charizard along the way.
-Got Cut, then completely forgot about Lt Surge whilst catching 10 pokemon for Flash.
-Went through Rock Tunnel, to Lavender, where I caught the first new addition to my team: Alaria, the level 16 Vulpix (aww, no Growlithe...).
-Hurriedly ground Alaria up to 22, then moved on to Celadon, where I grabbed the Eevee and evolved it into the next member of the team: Flaria (shut up, it was late).
-Ground Alaria and Flaria up to level 35 after a considerable amount of time.
-Saved and went to bed, like a normal person... only 6 hours late.

It's here at last, my first update and its a lofty one for my ice-monotype.

-Started the game as Cyndaquil as my starter.
-Did the parcel business including fighting the rival.
-Got Flash in Sprout Tower.
-Defeated Falkner in Violet City.
-Defeated Team Rocket at Slowpoke Well.
-Defeated Bugsy at Azalea Town.
-Defeated Rival prior to entrance to Ilex Forest.
-Got Cut and taught it to recently caught Oddish.
-Bought a Thunderpunch TM for my Typhlosion.
-Defeated Whitney in Goldenrod City
-Got the spray and got to Ecruteak.
-Got Surf at Dance Theater.
-Defeated Rival in the Burned Tower.
-Defeated Morty at Ecruteak Town.
-Headed east to Olivine City but while at that...
-The egg from the daycare hatched into a Smoochum!!

Well, my update wasn't really long but it's one-fourth the game already. I was a bit surprised to have an ice-type this early since my first one would be after the Team Rocket incident in Mahogany Town. Now it's up to my Smoochum until I get into the Ice Cave to level up.

I'm just not motivated to play much Pokemon nowadays. The last two generations are my least favorite to play for challenges, due to the length, and all I have left is them.

That being said, I am playing black right now. I have a level 24 Tranquill and Herdier (Bird and Dog). I'll eventually add a Deerling to my team, and then maybe like a Boufallant or whatever its name is.

I just beat the Chairman dude in the Battle Company, and have already driven off team Plasma.

Yet another quick update. I just beat Burgh quite easily with Bird. Dog soloed Dwebble, and Bird took out the other two.

Here's my Elite Four Update.

-Raised Delibird and Sneasel to Lv. 40
-Defeated Team Rocket at the Radio Tower.
-Caught Suicune in the Tin Tower as an HM Slave who replaced Krabby.
-Made it to Blackthorn City and defeated Clair although a bit underleveled.
-Grinded my entire team to Lv. 50 south of Blackthorn.
-Completed task at Dragon's Den.
-Trained against trainers along south path of Blackthorn.
-Took my first steps on Kanto.
-Trained against trainers along path to Elite Four.
-Defeated the Elite Four with ease.
-Defeated the Champion Lance quite easily with Lapras.

Well, my journey doesn't end until I defeat Red though so I'll finish that next time. I also found out that there was no Water Stone to easily obtain (Fisherman Tully finds them in Johto unfortunately) so my Shellder will not evolve yet. I wonder if Kanto has some.

Decided to get started on the Unova part of my Ground UMC.

Update #1 on Black.

• Beat the first gym with Oshawott and Pansear.
• Caught Driller the Drilbur in Wellspring Cave (took FOREVER).
• Reached Nancrene City, and caught Resonator the Tympole.
• Beat Lenora, then got the Dragon Skull back from Team Plasma.
• Got to Castelia City and beat the Battle Co.. Resonator evolved into Palpitoad.
• After training a bit, I was able to beat Burgh (took four tries!) with 6 Hone Claws against Venipede to OHKO Leavanny with Slash.
• Beat Bianca and Cheren, then caught Rock Star the Sandile at Desert Resort.
• Beat all the trainers, then went to Nimbasa City and got a Bike.
• Beat N again, then beat the gym and Elena easily with just Rock Star. Ground <<<< Electric!
• Rock Star evolved into Krokorok just afterwards on Rt. 16, and I taught him Strength.
• Currently saved just outside Nimbasa City before the Driftveil Drawbridge.

Carrie's Charizard was a pain to battle when he challenged me outside of the Pokemon League. He was very Fire Blast happy and, if my memory is correct, I defeated him with a combination of OpiumPoppy's Reflect and Mandragora's Wrap. Defeating Carrie's Charizard when he became the champion was MUCH easier. He continually used Fire Spin, which basically had no effect at all, because he was under the effects of Oleander's Leech Seed. Fire Spin did very little damage, even against my Grass-type, so the energy I got at the end of every turn was enough to bring me back to 100% health.​

My sweet, sweet Jumpluff is incredibly weak. ;A; This wasn't a problem until recently. Before, Chamomile was great at defeating teams using a stall method. I'd have her use Sleep Powder, then Leech Seed, then Flash as many times as possible. Now, she can still take a hit but she doesn't last long after that. :/ However, so far all of the boss battles have not been very difficult. I'm waiting for Gina to call and offer me a Leaf Stone so that I can evolve an Oddish I have in the daycare into Vileplume. Mint continues to be awesome, and Rosehip has exceeded my expectations. I thought Rosehip was going to be the weakest link but she's actually quite tough. My only complaints are her lack of moves. Her movepool is very bland in Gen II. I could have taught Rosehip Sludge Bomb when she was a Gloom, but I didn't get that TM until after I had evolved her. u__u I plan to teach her Giga Drain after beating Erika.

APRIL 25 2011
IT'S FINALLY OVER. x__x Kanto is such a drag the second time around. :/ I rushed through all the gyms with just three Pokemon because Gina never gave me a Leaf Stone. After getting all 18 badges, Red kept kicking my ass so I challenged the E4 two more times... but it wasn't enough to survive Charizard's attacks. I was too impatient to challenge the E4 again so I just gave Jumpluff a quick claw and used my Sleep Powder/Leech Seed/Flash spam strategy to beat literally over half of his team. Charizard, Espeon, Snorlax, and Blastoise fell victim to this annoying tactic. The weakest member on my team beat the strongest Pokemon on Red's team. It just goes to show you that Pokemon really isn't just about brute strength.​

Fire Ultimate Monotype Challenge - Update #3

Okay, time for the third update!
-Went to the Game Corner, and swept through the Rocket Hideout.
-Beat Giovanni, got the Silph Scope, then headed over to Erika's Gym.
-Naturally, she was a pushover, by virtue of my STABed Embers.
-Went back to Lt. Surge and beat him, then flew back to Lavender Town, where I waltzed through Pokemon Tower, beat Doofus, Marowak, the Rockets and a bucketload of Channelers along the way.
-Got the Pokeflute, then flew back to Celadon, where I woke up and slew the Snorlax, then cycled on to Fuschia City!
-Went to the Gym, beat Koga and his ninja-wannabe's. Most memorable quote: "Are our invisible walls confounding you?" umm... no. Try not tattooing them on the floor, then you might annoy me.
-Went to th Safari Zone, made it to the center, picking up the warden's Golden Teeth along the way. Got Surf, then got Strength from the Warden.
-Moved on to Saffron City, where I went to Silph Co, easily slipped past all the losers, got the Card Key, beat Doofus /again/, got a Lapras, whom I taught Surf and Strength, then moved on to Giovanni for Round II. Needless to say, Alaria destroyed him with no trouble whatsoever. Thankyou STABed Flamethrower.
-Went to the Psychic guys house, got Psychic (for Magmar in Cinnabar), then beat the Fighting Dojo, then on to the big shot herself, madam Sabrina! Her excellent special comes at a price: atrocious defense. Firestorm dominated here with his ever-critical-hitting Slash.
-I taught Firestorm Earthquake from Silph Co, and he learned Flamethrower after dominating Alakazam, then I taught Alaria Dig and Toxic. Flaria Learned Fire Spin somewhere in there too. I healed up, then flew to Pallet Town, where I save and turned off my PSP for the day. Uni calls!
