Ultimate Monotype Challenge Thread

[Elder Trainer]

Because I was unable to proceed further in my Unova Fire type challenge due to being unable to get past the double battle at the day care, I have decided to start a different challenge, this time a Single Fighting type challenge in Platinum. Will start posting my progress soon.

First Dark UMC update!
I missed playing 2nd gen..

Spoiler:

Started by picking cyndaquil to make it somewhat more difficult. After i got the egg from mr.pokemon and defeated my rival, i hacked in Flint the houndour, then i grinded him to level 10 and breezed through the route. I went into sprout tower and easily defeated everyone in there, getting flash from the last monk guy. Then i went to the gym and battled falkner, i was at level 13 at this point. I had to battle him twice since he got a few mud-slaps on me and i kept missing. I ended up winning quickly the second time.

I leave the gym, sit through elms call, and i pick up the egg and deposit it, along with cyndaquil, since i have no use for him at the moment. I continue with my journey through the next route and make it to azuela town. I see kurt and follow him to the slowpoke well, confronting team rocket. Im about level 18 at this time, so i just stomp on every one of the rockets. After that i get the pokeball from kurt and challenge bugsy, the gym leader. This battle was extremely simple, since Flint had ember to begin with.

I leave the gym, heal up, and i fight my rival. I thought he would be more troublesome since the type disadvantage, but i acquired bite, so i took out his totodile within a few shots. Easy battle, like always. i go through ilex forest and lead the farfetch'd to his master, get cut and search for a paras.. even though i had a cyndaquil waiting for me in my box. It took me a while to find a paras, especially since i accidentally killed the first 2. But i do catch one and continue through the forest. I make my way to goldenrod and i challenge the gym right away. i die the first time, but i found a way to beat whittney easily. I was at level 23 when i fought her, so i leveled Flint up and he evolved into Houndoom. I challenge her again and beat he in a flash.

After whittneys defeat, i go to the radio tower and get the radio app for my pokegear. I see the florists sister trying to move the sudowoodo and i go get the squirt bottle from her. I fight the pokemon and win easily. I get to eucreteak(?) city and enter the pokemon center, find bill there and he leave back to his settlement in goldenrod. i go to him and pickup Moonshine, the eevee. I go back up to the city and enter the burned tower. I find my rival and i fall down the whole, encountering the three dogs. Eugene rambles about suicunne and leaves. i go to the dance studio thingy and i fight the kimono dancer chicks and get surf from the old man. I then enter the gym and fight morty. i started with moonshine to get his happiness up and Flint kills his whole team with bite and faint attack.

I leave and go back to goldenrod and grab a bike. I ride and fight with Moonshine for a while, checking his happiness every now and then. I run into a shiny snubble, but i accidentally killed it.. Geez. I keep on fighting until he was about to level up to level 30. I ride my bike until he got happy enough, then i leveled him up and he learned bite and faint attack at the same time, evolving into an umbreon. I continue with my default task and i go to olivine. I run up the light house and find jasmine. she asks me a favor, and i surf across the ocean and enter the gym to fight chuck. I fight the first two trainers and realize that im in trouble. i train Flint to level 41 so he learns flamethrower and fight chuck. I picked up the chuckle for strength. His primeape was easy. It took only one shot from flame thrower i think and it was down. Poliwrath.. it wasnt to difficult to beat. A couple flamethrowers and he died.

i went to chucks wife and got fly. To bad i didnt have a flying type to learn it.. So i surf back and enter the light house to give jasmine the potion.. that i forgot to pick up. so i caught a noctowl and flew back, to cianwood, grabbed the potion, then i gave it to jasmine. The i fought her. Moonshine tool out her magnemites and Flint took out her steelix. Easy battle.

I went to mahgony and walked up to the lake of rage. i kill the rare red gyarados really fast and find lance. i go back to town and help him take out team rocket. It took me a few minutes, lance didnt really do anything it seemed like. After that, i enter the gym, decipher the puzzle, and then challenge pryce. I beat him really fast with flint.

I get a call from elm telling me to go back to goldenrod. i say screw that and i went to the ice path. i ran around for about 20 minutes looking for a sneasle, then i realized i need to look at night. So i end this update here.

Have already completed the game. The Speed Button FTW.

In the end, I didn't use an Arcanine, as by the time I got to Route 8, I was so over-levelled that I didn't see the point of getting a Growlithe, and having to level it up to catch up with Charizard.

I personally can't believe that I've managed to complete my first challange. Well, I say challange, it was much easier than I was expecting it to be, I have to say. But, I completed it, and that's what matters in the end, after all. ;)

I have actually completed my UMC Electric for Crystal....I had a super dumb brain fart using the speed button on my Visual Boy and forgot to take a Print Screen of my beating Red....So I took two, one of where he used to be...and one of my final team. The gym leaders and Elite Four were A LOT easier than Kanto...but Red proved a challenged for sure!

Probably going to start UMC Electric in Hoenn next. Emerald will most likely be my choice!

UMC: Heart Gold (Ground Types)
Update 8

• Went up against Will. Nieds critical'd the first Xatu with Thunder. Hoover beat Jynx with Earthquake. Nieds beat Slowbro with Thunder, then beat Exeggutor with Sludge Bomb. The final Xatu fell to Thunder and Shadow Ball.
• Koga's next. Razer beat Ariados with Earthquake, then Zippy did the same to Forretress. Nieds went out against Venomoth to get rid of Toxic Spikes, then used Earth Power to take out Venemoth. Muk fell to Hoover's Earthquake, and Nieds finished off Crobat with Thunder and Shadow Ball.
• Next up was Bruno. Razer spammed Swords Dance and beat Hitmontop with an amped up Earthquake. Razer got HItmonchan with Slash before going down but Zippy followed up with Slam to win. Hitmonlee went down to a pair of Waterfalls. Machamp was tough, but I poisoned him with Sludge Bomb and then wittled him down slowly. Hoover finished off Onix with Avalanche.
• I expected Karen to be a lot tougher than she ended up being.. Umbreon fell to a Swords/X-Scissor combo, and Houndoom, who I expected to be really hard, went down to an Earthquake. Vileplume fell to a pair of Slashes… seriously Karen? Gengar fell to a pair of Shadow Balls, but Nieds went down too thanks to Destiny Bond. Hoover finished off Murkrow with Avalanche.
• Aaaand finally, Lance. Nieds beat Gyrados with Thunder. Hoover beat the first Dragonite with Avalanche. Zippy beat Charizard with a few Waterfalls. Hoover beat the second Dragonite with Avalanche. For the last Dragonite (level 50), I had to send out Razer as a pawn to heal Hoover. It took out Razer with Outrage, which then confused Dragonite, allowing me to step in with Hoover once again and KO it with another Avalanche. One more to go!!! And I figured hey, what the heck? Hoover deserves the honour, and took out Aerodactyl with one final Avalanche. Boom, league champion.

Pokemon Crystal Fire UMC - Part 1

I decided to continue the UMC, and so have started Gen II, using Pokemon Crystal.

My progress so far:

* Started a new game, picked Cyndaquil, did all of the boring inroduction stuff.
* Kicked my Rival's ass, as I'd trained Cyndaquil to Lvl 10
* Eventually got to Violet City, whilst fighting against all the wild battles and trainers, where I caught a Growlithe on Route 36.
* Tained Growlithe against the Sages in Sprout Tower in preperation for the Gym.
* The Gym wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. Although Mud-Slap caused a lot of damage, Cyndaquil and Growlithe were troopers, and managed to pull through to get me my first badge.
* Healed up, diposited the Togipi egg into the PC, and made my way to Route 32.
* Whilst training here, Cyndaquil evolved into Quilava.
* Union Cave was very easy. what with Ember on both Pokemon and Bite on Growlithe.
* Reached Azalea Town. Healed up, talked to Kurt and sent Team Rocket packing.
* For obvious reasons, Bugsey was extreamely easy. Four Embers, 3 KO's.
* My Rival was a different matter, however. Although his Gastly went down without a fight, his Croconaw managed to KO Quilava. Fortunatly, Bite's a stronger move than Tackle, so Growlithe managed to save the day. And like Gastly, Zubat went down with no problems.
* Healed up, and visited Ilex Forest. Solved the stupid FarFetch'd puzzle, and got HM01 as a reward.
* After getting myself a slave, got through the forest and rewarded myself with TM02, which I immediately taught to Quilava.
* Fought all the trainers on Route 34, reached Goldenrod City, and saved my game, ready for the arduous task ahead of me.

I'm currently attempting to get a shiny Magby. Wish me luck.

Well I started the Hoenn run of my Bug UMC in Sapphier

Named myself Ciax and met may. Chose torchic and after an 1 and half i founf flitwick the surskit. Caught a female wurmple named Elaine and she evovled into a beautifly. After some grinding and saving the devon worker I beat Roxanne with bubble and absorb. Saved peeko and caught kimmi the nincada.

Travelling to dewford i do some more grininding and own the gym with Elaines gust. Delivered the letter to steven. Continuing to slateport I rescue Capt. stern and win some soda pops. Beat may fairly easily because elaines absorb was 4x effective against marshtomp. Arriving at mauville i beat all the trainers and will soon tackle the gym. Not looking forward to it ;D

Ultimate Monotype Challenge- Fire
I've been putting off this update for too long now. It's now or never.

So I started Fire Red, and got my first Pokemon for the challenge Charmander, I named him John. My rival (Ray) picked Squirtle and we battled. I won and John levelled up.
Then I was training on Route 1 until I got to Viridian City, I got Oak's package and got a Pokedex, not that I use it.
Then on Route 22 I battled Ray again:
John (lv11) OHKO'd Pidgey (lv9) with Ember, then I used Scratch repeatedly for Squirtle. Eventually, me and John prevailed, and John levelled up again. Thanks Ray!
In Viridian Forest, I trained in the grass until John was lv13, so he'd definitely know Metal Claw for the Rock Gym. Then I defeated all the trainers and went to Pewter City.
In the Gym, the trainer proved me right with Metal Claw OHKOing Geodude. Sandshrew took slightly longer, but me and John won... again. John levelled up, and evolved! Yes he was Lv16. So now he's a Charmeleon.
Then I battled Brock:
His Geodude got OHKO'd, and his Onyx nearly OHKO'd John. But I used a Potion, and spammed Metal Claw. I soon won, and John levelled up again.
I got the Running Shoes from Professor Oak's Aide, this should make the game slightly faster, and a cheesy note from mom.
Now I'm fighting a bunch of trainers to level John up.

Oh, and I also learned that my next Pokemon should be Vulpix, I like Vulpix. I like Ninetales even more, wink, wink.

Flying UMC Penultimate Kanto Update The End Is Nigh

I know last time I updated, my team was all Lvl. 38's. Well, a mixture of a boaring 4 hour car ride, and no internet access, has left my team all Lvl. 50.
I remember some of what went down, but it's gonna be vague. Here it is:

*Beat Ganon and Giovanni in Silph, both were easy.
*Beat the Dojo, and beat Sabrina. Did you know that her gym puzzle is as simple as going up and down repeatedly!
*Beat Koga relatively easily. OFC I did the Fushia Safari Quest, and got surf & strength.
*Beat Blaine, went to Sevii, remebered Skarmory, Delibird, and Xatu are AFTER you beat the elite four. Cried.
*Beat Giovanni in an intense brawl, and destroyed TR for good.
*Beat Ganon again and solved the Victory Road.
*For training, I decided to beat the 3 Legendary Birds, to prove my birds are superior.
*Sheik Vs. Moltres - Winner Charizard!
*Ganon Vs. Zapdos - Winner Zapdos..... but of course Sheik came through and beat Zapdos's butt.
*Navi Vs. Articuno - Winner..... Navi! Intense battle though.

Now I'm ready to show the elite four who's the best.... but Loreli scares me....

Final update for Dark UMC Johto!

Where to begin.. I caught Sneezy the Sneasel at last, and i grinded her up a few levels. I went back to goldenrod and saved the radio tower real quick. After that, i bought ice punch and taught it to Sneezy and started to grind her to level 45. After she reached the appropriate level, i challenged the gym. Claire was an easy battle. I think i could've done it without Sneezy, but it would be a little bit more difficult. Sneezy took out all the dragonaires and Flint beat the kingdra. After she threw her little fit, i proved myself to her and got my eighth badge.

I flew back to newbark and grabbed my useless master ball that i never use, and i surfed to Kanto. I breezed through all the low leveled trainers and grinded them all to.. 50 i believe. After that, i made it to the end of victory road and my rival challenged me one last time. I beat him quickly and entered. I made it past the first 2 easily, but bruno proved to be somewhat of a problem. I died once and bought items to help and then i beat him with some effort needed. Karren was some trouble, but i managed to beat her still. And lance was extremely easy. Ice punched half of his team(his three dragonites) and Flint took care of the rest.

After sitting through the credits, i jumped on the boat and arrived at vermillion city. I challenged and beat Lt. Surge with my whole team being involved in the battle(excluding my slaves)

I looked around the corner at the snorlax and i walked up to saffron. I picked up psychic, taught it to Moonshine, and fought Sabrina and beat her without breaking a sweat.

Next, i stopped by lavender to get a fly destination, then i made my way to celadon and beat Erika with Flints flamethrower.

I got to the power plant and figured out the location of the missing part, so i entered mistys gym and beat the rocket and found the part.. except the other way around. I found Misty and forced her back to the gym and beat her really quick.

Next on my list was Janine. I rode my bike down to fuschia and proved moonshines new attack useful. Even though i didnt need it since she was at such a low level..

I flew back to vermillion and killed the snorlax that was in my way. I ran through diglet cave, running into one as i was about to leave, and i enter brocks gym and use Sneezy to fight him. I win, of course.

I go straight to cinnabar and find blue there. He says something useless and i go find blaine in his little cave. I beat him and take my badge.

I fly back to viridian and enter the gym. At first, i thought i might have some trouble with him. It turns out he's a total push-over and couldnt take it.

I go down to pallet town and get the ok from prof. oak to go to mt. silver. I get to the pokemon center near the entrance and grind to 60. i enter and challenge Red.. When i saw his pikachu i thought they were all gonna be in the eighties, so i thought, "damn, i'm screwed..." but then i start to take his pokes out without any trouble. I kinda got nervous with snorlax since he beat Flint, but Moonshine proved himself with his confuse ray and psychic once again. And his last pokemon was venusaur. One ice punch, frozen. That was basically the end of him. I defeated the best, once again.

I was excited about using an Umbreon, but i was excited about getting one. Trying to evolve Moonshine was a real pain, but it ended up being worth it. Even though his defenses were way better than his attacks, he still proved his worth with his ability to learn psychic. I would definitely use an umbreon again... If i could get one right away, not really willing to evolve one again.


Sneezy/Sneasel

Level 60

-Ice Punch
-Faint Attack

Even though she came in late, she was extremely useful. She made Lance and Claire a whole lot easier. It was kind of a pain to train her up, but she proved to me that it was worth it. Looking forward to Weaville in my 4th gen dark, and maybe my 4th gen ice run!

End of this one! Not gonna start on the 3rd gen dark run yet.. I should focus on my normal platinum run first, which i have started. I havent gotten far enough for an update though. And it'll probably take me a while to get it going. The pokes i have for it currently are Starly and a Bidoof. So, until next time!

Today I will begin the UMC in Emerald. I have been thinking about it for a few hours and I will end up hacking an Electrike due to the lack of an early electric Pokemon. I will most likely make an updated post on here tomorrow morning! :)

Pokemon Platinum, single Fighting type monotype challenge-First update:

-Started the game, followed Barry out of Twinleaf Town. Met Professor Rowan and chose Chimchar as my starter Battled Barry and won.
-Went home and talked to mom. Followed Barry to Lake Verity and met Cyrus. Went to Sandgem Town and talked to Professor Rowan. Nicknamed my Chimchar Blaze, got the Pokedex and Return, followed Dawn through town then went back to Twinleaf Town.
-Talked to mom, got the parcel from Barry's mom. Headed for Jubilife City, stopping for the standard Pokemon catching tutorial from Dawn and received the five Pokeballs.
-Battled a few trainers, then entered Jubilife City. Talked to Dawn, then met Looker and got the Vs. Recorder. Gave the Parcel to Barry and got the town map. Got the Poketch and traveled down Route 203. Battled Barry and won again. Battled a few more trainers. Blaze evolved into Monferno just before passing through Oreburgh gate.
-Got Rock Smash from the hiker inside the gate, then battled the two trainers inside and passed through to Oreburgh City. Caught a Machop just north of the city and nicknamed him Flex. Went to the Oreburgh Mine and started leveling Flex up. After beating all the trainers and talking to Roark, went to the gym.
-Beat the two trainers and Roark and earned the Coal Badge. Returned to Jubilife City and battled the two Galactic Grunts. Captured a Bidoof to use as an HM mule, then taught it Rock Smash and broke through the rocks inside the Ravaged Path. Passed through to Route 204.
-Traveled to Floaroma Town and boxed Bidoof. Battled the Galactic Grunt outside the Valley Windworks. Battled the Grunts with the Windworks key and battled the Grunts inside. Battled Mars and chased Team Galactic out of town.
-Travelled along Route 205 to Eterna Forest. Escorted Cheryl to the exit, then traveled to Eterna City.
-Followed Barry and went to the Eterna City statue. Met Cynthia, then battled my way through the gym and beat Gardenia, then chased off Team Galactic and saved the owner of the bike shop. Got the bike, then went to Route 211 and caught a Meditite, nicknamed him Yogi. Flex evolved in Machoke at this point; traded him back and forth to evolve him into Machamp.
-Went down Cycling Road to Oreburg City and got Bidoof from the PC. Battled the trainers and met Dawn outside the entrance to Mt. Coronet, obtaining the Vs. Seeker from her. Passed through to Route 208 where I caught a male Ralts. Nicknamed him Scrapper in anticipation of his evolution. Headed on to Hearthome City.

Update #2:

-Caught a Bibarel to replace Bidoof as an HM mule. Leveled up Scrapper, who evolved into Kirlia.
-Went to the Contest Hall in Hearthome City and met Fantina. Worked my way through the gym and earned the Relic Badge.
-Went through the gate to Route 209 and defeated Barry again. Traveled along the route to Solaceon Town.
-Captured a Noctowl for an HM mule to travel with Fly (after I obtain HM 2). Boxed it along with Bibarel.
-Traveled along Routes 210 and 215, battling trainers along the way. Am currently outside the gate to Veilstone City, with only a double battle to go before entering.

Will likely be some time before I battle, need to grind a bit before I will be ready.

Bug UMC

After beating Lt Surge I collected HM05 and headed to the rock tunnel beating all the trainers on the way. After getting through rock tunnel i went to face my rival and won. After this i headed to Celadon and beat Erika and the team rocket from the game corner, then I bought Scyther from the game corner. :D
