I hope I can use less than six pokemon? I will do Grass single challenge on Blue, using Venusaur, Tangela, Parasect, Exeggutor, and Victeebel, not like i had any other choice.

As far as I know, you can use any size team you want. I only used 3 for the Red portion of my challenge. Larger numbers doesn't always mean a better team.
___________________________________________________________________
Updating for Gold Normal Challenge: I chose Totodile, did all the introductory parts, got Poke Balls, caught Pidgey and Sentret, boxed Totodile for future HM use.
Did some grinding before Route 30, proceeded to Violet City fighting trainers on the way, did some training at Sprout Tower.
Fought Violet Gym and won rather easily.
Team is now:
Spoiler:
Lv12
- Tackle
- Defense Curl
- Quick Attack
Lv12
- Tackle
- Sand-Attack
- Gust
As with Red, I plan on making cuts to this team as better Pokemon become available. I eventually plan to have Ursaring, Granbull, and Tauros.
Did the Prof. Oak Stuff, got Bulbasaur. Didn't catch to use as HM slave yet. Got to pewter city. I was level 12 by the time I was battling Brock's underling, but Bulbasaur and I walked away in shame as we couldn't even beat the trainer. We trained up till he (or she, don't think there's genders in gen 1) got Vine Whip at thirteen. Then we OHKO'd everybody. Bulbasaur and I are now walking proudly towards Mt.Moon with our shiny new Boulder Badge (I think...)
EDIT:
Bulbasaur attemted to evolve but unconciously I pressed B. I fail at stuff.
Now for another Gold update for my Normal Challenge:
- Went south toward that one cave whose name I don't remember, fighting trainers on the way.
- Went through said cave fighting the trainers within.
- Fought the trainer outside of said cave.
- Healed, then did Slowpoke Well part.
- Some grinding was done to facilitate the gym battle.
- Beat Bugsy.
Team is now:
Well, seems like my Electric Challenge is over. Not because I've beaten it, because of Bruno. I just can't beat those two Onix. Once both go down, the game is basically won already by Hitmonchan. I've tried, like, ten times. Victory Road is not suitable to really grind in, either. Onix is the easiest pokemon to find and I barely kill those with Jolteon's Double Kick as it is. >_<
I'll try a little more, but it pretty much seems like my challenge is done and I'll be starting an Ultimate Challenge tomorrow.
Two gyms in one update for my Normal challenge:
- Went through Ilex Forest, got Cut.
- Went through the route to Goldenrod, fighting trainers.
- Went through the Underground, National Park, and routes around there fighting trainers.
- Beat Goldenrod Gym.
- Beat the Sudowoodo.
- Went to Ecruteak City, healed.
- Went west of Ecruteak, caught Snubbull and Tauros.
- Did some grinding on them.
- Beat Ecruteak Gym, taught Granbull Shadow Ball.
- Realized I forgot about the Burned Tower, going there now.
Team is now:
alright so defeating red is alot harder than it hought wud be so i have decided to put my bug type umc on hold for a while until i feel like going back to it. Now i will be starting a warter umc starting with fire red. Hope its a bit easier even though i love bugs
Update for Final Ultimate Monotype Challenge (Water).
Update #2 on HeartGold.
Spoiler:
Got through Union Cave with the help of a few Repels.
Talked to Kurt, and we went into the Slowpoke Well.
After beating a Rocket, I searched for a really long time for a Slowpoke. The first one I encountered, I killed. The second had an Adamant nature (ugh!). And finally, the third time was the charm. I named her Cleopatra, since I'm going to evolve it into Slowking, and she's a female (that's irony for you...).
Beat the rest of the Rockets and Proton.
Then I took on the gym. Cleopatra was able to beat most of the trainers with the help of Curse.
Bugsy was up next. She did beat me once thanks to crit hax, but the second time around Cleopatra set up 6 Curses on Metapod and swept all three of her Pokemon with Tackle (lol). Scyther only used Quick Attack for some reason...
Anyway, I healed up, then Tyson showed up. This was an easy win for Torrent, who had Ice Fang to 2HKO Bayleef.
Then it was time to go through Ilex Forest, which wasn't too difficult. I taught Cut to Bellsprout, then used some Repels.
Taught Headbutt to both Cleopatra and Torrent.
Arrived in Goldenrod City, then beat all the trainers around the city in preparation for my next gym match.
Finally, I took on Whitney. Cleopatra easily beat Clefairy, but Miltank was too much for her. Torrent fought through his Attraction to Miltank (God that's such an annoying move, especially when combined with Stomp's flinch rate) and survived four Rollouts to take her down with Headbutt.
And now I'm on my way to Ecruteak City after dispatching the Sudowoodo with Cleopatra.
Team Devin:
Cleopatra the Quirky Slowpoke, ♀ - L24 @ Quick Claw
Ability: Oblivious
Moves: Headbutt, Confusion, Yawn, Water Gun
Torrent the Naughty Croconaw, ♂ - L25 @ Shell Bell
Ability: Torrent
Moves: Headbutt, Bite, Water Gun, Ice Fang
Ground Monotype Challenge for Emerald Update 1:
Got Mudkip and trained it to level 7. Then beat May and got the Pokedex and Poke Balls.
Did the stuff in Petalburg and then headed for Petalburg Woods. Defeated Team Aqua guy, got to level 13. Left the woods and trained a bunch. Mudkip evolved into Marshtomp and then a caught a Nincada for no reason. Then I OHKO'd all Roxanne's Pokemon and defeated the Aqua guy again. Obtained all the stuff I need to deliver and saved in the Pokemon Center. So far, my team consists of a Lv. 18 Marshtomp.
Update, two gyms in this one too:
- Realized I forgot about the Kimono Girls, took care of that and got Surf.
- Went to Olivine City, fighting trainers on the way.
- Fought trainers in the lighthouse.
- Surfed to Cianwood, fighting trainers on the way.
- Healed, then beat Chuck with minimal difficulty.
- Got SecretPotion, healed, then flew back to Olivine.
- Gave SecretPotion to Jasmine.
- Went to the gym, got stomped by Jasmine.
- Got stomped by Jasmine again.
- Got stomped by Jasmine yet again.
- Beat her like this: Tauros takes out Magnemites with Strength, while getting lucky once with a critical hit. Tauros then uses Tail Whip on Steelix to lower his defense, then gets struck down with Iron Tail. Then, Pidgeotto used Sand-Attack on Steelix repeatedly, and Iron Tail never hit, and ran out of PP. Meanwhile, I'm repeatedly using Wing Attack. After a Hyper Potion on Steelix, and a whole lot more Wing Attacks, Steelix finally lands a Rock Throw, but now Steelix is at red health. Granbull finishes with Headbutt.
Caught Lillipup (Now a Herdier LV 25) at route 1
Caught a Pidove (Now a Tranquil LV 28) and a Audino (Now LV 24) at route 3
Just caught a Minccino (Now LV24) at route 5
This is my team so far, with snivy there for HM Cut.
Tomorrow i plan on defeating the 3rd Gym and gaining my 5th team member sawsbuck :)
I used a random generator to choose these pokemon, so dont judge my pokemon choices ;)
EDIT:
Will post a more in depth update next time, because right now its 3:30 am and im tired >_>
So for my water umc i haev nearly decided on my team i have
-Blastoise
-Gyarados
-Poiwrath
-Vaporeon
-Lapras
Who should the last member be Tentacruel or Omastar, please help
Update for Final Ultimate Monotype Challenge (Water).
Update #3 on HeartGold.
This one's pretty big. Lots of screenshots, yay!
Spoiler:
Made my way through to Ecruteak City.
After defeating the Grunt in the Dance Theater, I got Surf! <3<3<3
Taught it to both Cleopatra and Torrent, then headed to the Burned Tower.
Torrent beat Tyson again rather easily.
After I released the legendary dogs, I went to the gym.
Cleopatra was the star here, beating all the trainers with Confusion.
Morty was handled by both Cleopatra (beat Gastly/Haunter, fell to Gengar's Shadow Ball) and Torrent (Bite beat Gengar/Haunter).
Headed to Violet City, where I caught Kermit the Poliwag.
Then I went to Union Cave, where Lapras is found on Fridays.
Soon Kermit evolved into Poliwhirl at L28 (learned Mud Shot), and Torrent also evolved into Feraligatr!
I eventually found Lapras and caught it, naming her Rider again.
Escape Roped out, and made my way back to Ecruteak and continued on to Olivine City.
Then I fished up Pincher the Krabby (another ironic female, lol).
Scaled the Lighthouse and talked to Jasmine, then headed across the sea to Cianwood City.
I found Suicune to the north, and after it ran away, Eusine challenged me. Rider was up to the task.
Then I healed up and went into the gym. Pincher evolved into Kingler after the first trainer, and after she beat all the trainers, was able to take down Chuck as well, thanks to Hypnosis missing twice, along with several failed Focus Punches.
I got Fly from Chuck's wife, which I taught to a Farfetch'd I caught earlier, then saved.
Next I'm gonna fish up Chinchou (urg, 7% rate...gonna be fishing for a while), then will go trainer bashing.
Team Devin:

After getting the S.S. Anne Ticket, I headed through the Underground Path to Vermillion City.
I boarded the S.S. Anne, where I beat my Rival.
I then got Cut.
I entered Diglett's Cave to catch a Diglett. Unfortunately, I caught six ones, all with horrible natures, until I found a Dugtrio. I used ten Pokeballs and failed to catch it. Stocked up on Pokeballs, used the Repel Trick to find one, and caught it using only two Pokeballs. >_<
Afterwards, I went into the Vermillion Gym, where I beat Lt. Surge, training Sentinel.
After beating Lt. Surge, Sentinel evolved.
I went through Diglett's Cave, where I got Flash from one of Oak's researchers.
I went back to Vermillion, headed back to Cerulean through the Underground Path, and went on Route 9.
I entered Rock Tunnel and got through it, reaching Lavender Town.
I went East on Route 8 before going through another Underground Path.
I entered Celadon City.
|Team|
Helen the Nidoqueen
Level 31
Sassy Nature
~Bite
~Body Slam
~Water Pulse
~Shock Wave
Tria the Dugtrio
Level 29
Lonely Nature
~Dig
~Cut
~Mud Slap
~Aerial Ace
Working on Tria's moveset, and still deciding if I want to keep this team as it is or add a Rhydon. I neglected to catch Sandshrew, because, let's be honest, it basically sucks (doesn't learn one good ground move?).
Update for my Ultimate Normal Challenge:
- Flew to Ecruteak City, headed east to Mahogany Town, fighting trainers on the way.
- Went to the route to the north, caught a Girafarig, for whom Pidgeotto got cut and demoted to Fly slave.
- Did some grinding with Girafarig to bring it to Lv33 to match the rest of the team. And, surprisingly, encountered Suicune during the grinding.
- Fought the trainers on that route, went to Lake of Rage and beat the Red Gyarados.
- Talked to Lance, then flew back to Mahogany Town, healed, and headed to the basement of the shop.
- Did the quest there, then healed and went to the gym.
- Pryce fell rather easily to a Headbutt, Strength, and Iron Tail, one for each Pokemon.
Team is now:
Did all the formalities at the beginning. Got Pikachu, beat Gary, delivered the parcel, etc etc.
Followed the rules here... went onto Route 22, caught a Nidoran (m), nicknamed it Nieds. I plan to evolve it to Nidoking when I can. As a result, Pikachu gets deposited into the box and cries about it.
Grinded Nieds up to about Level 10, then went to face Gary on Route 22... Spammed Horn Attack; Spearow and Eevee were no match!
Fought my way through Viridian Forest. Nieds is cranked up in levels now. Next update will be me against Brock.
