Ultimate Monotype Challenge Thread

Last Time, we saved Saffron, defeated Sabrina, and caught and raised our third team member!

This time on Kanto: Grass Edition:

We made our way from Saffron to Fuchsia, taking the eastern route to train our team. Then we made our way to Cinnabar Island where, after we searched the Pokemon Mansion, we took on the Cinnabar Gym. Despite having a strong weakness to fire, we defeated Blaine, the gym leader, easily. It just took a Psychic attack to each Pokemon.
After getting the Volcano Badge, we literally ran into our friend Bill outside the gym! He asked us if we wanted to go on a cruise with him, since he was unable to attend the previous cruise on the S. S. Anne. We agreed, and away we went!

When we arrived at One Island, Bill introduced us to his old friend, Celio. Like Bill, Celio was a bit... eccentric to say the least. He and Bill had us go deliver a Meteorite to a man on Two Island, because they were fellow collectors. So we made out way to Two Island.

Two Island was much smaller than One Island, so we had an easy time finding the man's house. However, when we arrived, he wouldn't even look at the Meteorite! He was all in a tizzy about some girl named Lostelle! He pleaded with us to go find her, on Three Island and reluctantly, we agreed.

When we arrived there, Three Island was being invaded by some gang of bikers from Kanto. They were blocking the entire road! So we put a stop to that with some good, old-fashioned Pokemon battles.

Afterwards, a girl came running up to us, saying that her friend, Lostelle had gone off to Berry Forest by herself with any Pokemon. She then asked us if we would go check to see if her friend was all right. Since we were looking for Lostelle anyway, we made the long trek to Berry Forest. When we got there, Lostelle was being attacked by a wild Hypno. We took it out easily before heading back to Two Island with Lostelle in tow.

When we got arrived, the man was overjoyed to see Lostelle and overjoyed to receive the Meteorite. Everyone was happy, so we headed back One Island to see if we could spread any more joy. When we got back, Celio said he had fixed the PC system. Funny, I hadn't realized it was broken. He thanked Bill for his visit and Bill and I returned to Cinnabar Island.

When we returned we headed north, towards home. After a nice meal, we then headed to Virdian City to take on the gym. When we arrived, the gym was actually open for once, so we headed inside.

Come to find our, Giovanni has been the gym leader here all this time! We took him out the same way we always do: Grass Power!

Afterwards, we headed to Victory Road when who should we run into but our rival! We took him out with Grass Power!

We then made our way through the Victory Road before arriving at the Pokemon League. After sustaining a couple of losses, we finally became champions!

Very useful first half of the game.Earthquake was unnecessary, but overall strong team member.

Quite the powerhouse. Took down most of the Elite Four, and Agatha all on her own. Having never used the Exeggcute line before, I was quite impressed.

Yes. When I started this challenge back in May the second book, Throne of Fire, had just come out, so that was what I was reading currently, hence Venusaur's and Victreebel's names (and a Paras I caught named Bast). However, when I caught Clio the Exeggcute, I couldn't think of any related names, so I named her Clio after Clio, the muse of history.

You can catch your first Ghost Type after your first badge, and that's Drifloon, which you can catch during Fridays . Then after your 2nd Badge, you can get your 2nd pokemon, Gastly in the Old Chateau. I think that's all the Ghost types you can get in Diamond.

ahh, thankyou. I wasnt aware that you could get Driftloon that early on. I am happy to go with any team that i can get. Since ill need two spots for HM slaves. Its gonna be difficult going only with Ghost but ill go for it :) hopefully ill play enough to get spritomb >_>

Hello, I'm sorry to say this, but there's NO WAY to beat Platinum unless I trade or hack (which I can't do anyway) or break the rules in some other way. I'll tell you why, because of Cynthia's ANNOYING TOGEKISS!! I'll list my team and, someone, please, PLEASE tell me how I can improve! Don't tell me to grind all night, I was gonna do that but I still don't think it would be enough. So please, someone help me!

Force Palm (STAB + Pure Power= Awesome) again, no need for this, give him ThunderPunch via relearner.

@Nothing give him an Iron Plate if you have one. if not, a Silk Scarf will work (for ExtremeSpeed)

Flash Cannon (STAB) Steel is a crappy attacking type especially since Fighting hits the same things, go with ExtremeSpeed (L51) for some priority against Togekiss.

Okay, I made some comments in the quote, they are in Bold. Let me know if you have questions, feel free to VM me or reply in this thread.

As far as how much you need to grind, L60 should be more than enough for this team, so try to find some trainers that upgrade their teams for rebattlng with the VS Seeker. you should also have some Rare Candies unless you used them already, so make sure to use those up.

Also, if you're using a cartridge, you can get shards in the Underground. If you aren't, well...

Good luck, and Cynthia isn't invincible, no matter how much it seems like it. Just be thankful that Tokegiss doesn't have Serene Grace!

From FireRed, to HeartGold, to Emerald, to Platinum, and now to Black. the Bug types have had helped me throughout my journey. With that, I thank you all. See you again! The Challenge was fun! :)

basic update to my ghost challenge:

caught another Ghastly (nicknamed it Spooks).
Defeated the fighting gym and trained up all pokemon.
Spooks evolved.
Defeated the water gym, easily with Boo's new electric type moves.

I think im content with this team for the rest of the game. I dont think ill bother catching another drifloom or ghastly.

Quite easily defeated the Ghost Gym.
