    Progress Report!

    Player: Malfoy
    Badges: 6
    Time: 6 hours
    Type: Dragon
    Current Version: Yellow

From Brock to Misty was easily the worst part of the game. I had to heal myself after every single trainer, and there was even a junior trainer or two I had to reset a couple times for. Things started looking up a bit when I grabbed the Water Gun TM, which let me handle hikers. I went back and healed after the Super Nerd, then went back and got poisoned by Jesse and James' Koffing. Guess who forgot to buy an antidote?

Misty wasn't as bad as I thought she'd be. I spent all my money on potions and had wrapfest. Luckily, her Starmie refrained from using Bubblebeam, and my strangely obedient dragonling got in a critical wrap. This ended the main obedience issues.

My rival was actually pretty easy, seeing as my Dratini was over level 20 by this time. I went from town to Bill with only 2 pokemon center visits.

I cruised through the S.S. Anne and taught my HM slave Cut. When I battled Surge, I had a level 30 Dragonair. It's actually lucky that I was able to avoid leveling it more. It promptly started disobeying again after the battle, but I came away with Thunderbolt.

Erika was pretty easy. I simply taught my little warrior Ice Beam and let her attacks just bounce off. This ended all obedience issues.

I cruised through the rocket bases, Pokemon Tower, and Silph Co. Funnily enough, I lost to Koga my first time with my Dragonair at level 50. Toxic and double team are a mean combo.

From there, I grabbed the HMs and made my way to Cinnibar. Blaine went down pretty easily, though it's interesting to note that his Arcanine survived my Dragonite's Surf. Maybe because it's level fifty-freaking-four.

    Current Team:

    :dragonite
    Dragonite
    Level 60
    Hp-----Atk---Def---Spd--Spc
    |202| |186| |149| |138| |155|

  • I finally continued after some time.

After just DESTROYING The third gym, I went to Lavender and then to Cerulean city to get teh Silph scope and get the rockets away. Then I went to Fuchsia city skipping as many trainers as possible. I went into the Safari zone to get the Teeth and HM Surf, but couldn't find a Rhyhorn with the few steps I had left. I did find AND CATCH a Chansey though(just for fun). I re-entered and I immediatly found one. Flew back to Cerulean to beat the gym, was easy with my HEAVILY overleveled Graveler. Then back to Fuchsia to beat that gym. it was surprisingly hard. My Ground attacks didn't work on the Kopffings and Weezing, and both graveler and Rhyhorn was Poisoned. My slaves died too. Graveler died by poison the way back to the poke center and Rhyhorn had 2 HP left!!!

    Team:

    Rhyhorn lvl 35
    Dig
    Rock Blast
    Substitute
    Secret power

    Grvaeler lvl 51
    Rock Slide
    Earthquake
    Brick Break
    Selfdestruct.

  • After too long, I finally picked up Emerald to continue my normal challenge.

Turns out rock pokemon are damn strong against a team of normals with only normal moves... so I got training and evolving until I had a vigoroth with Feint Attack - my only effective attack appart from the very crappy astonish. I managed to own Roxy's Geodudes and dudettes.

    Team after 1st badge:
    Vigoroth Lv19
    emesprani288.gif

    Scratch
    Yawn
    Faint Attack
    Slack off

    Swellow Lv22
    emesprani277.gif

    Wing Attack
    Quick Attack
    Double Team
    Growl

    Linoone Lv20
    emesprani264.gif

    Headbutt
    Tackle
    Sand-Attack
    Growl

    Loudred Lv20
    emesprani294.gif

    Pound
    Uproar
    Astonish
    Howl

Now to cruise through a portion of the game due to highly overleveled pokemon

    Second Progress Report

    Yellow Version Complete!
    Final stats:
    Player: Malfoy
    Badges: 8
    Pokedex: 6
    Time: 7:13
    Type: Dragon
    Version: Yellow

    Final Team:

    :dragonite
    Dragonite
    Level 78
    Hp-----Atk---Def---Spd--Spc
    |265| |247| |199| |184| |205|
    Body Slam
    Surf
    Thunderbolt
    Ice Beam

Geovanni was super easy. Nothing lasted longer than one round. From there, I trashed my rival's pokemon in 1 shot each and continued on through the plateau.

I engaged in some good leveling here. The trainers give buckets of exp, even with Repel usage conserving my PP. I bought myself 44 Full Restores with the money I accrued throughout the game and deposited my HM Slave into the PC. After all, it's cheating to use it for a Revive Staller.

The E4 was a bit harder than I thought it would be for a level 71+ Dragonite, which means it was still pretty easy. I managed to survive a Blizzard from Lorelai's Lapras, which blew me away. Dragonite held together after a quadruple-effective STAB power attack. That thing's a beast.

The rest of the E4 offered little opposition. One of Agatha's Gengars survived a few turns with a Substitute, and the other one was surprisingly hard to kill. I can't complain, though, the noncombined special saved me at Lorelai. Unfortunately, however, I hit some trouble with my rival. After his Magneton barely survived a Body Slam, it proceeded to repeatedly paralyze me with Thunderbolt. I said screw it and bumped it off. His Cloyster, however, used Aurora Beam as I Full restored and managed a crit that OHKO'd my poor Dragonite.

I then went through the E4 again, and they offered even less resistance. 31 moves knocked out 26 pokemon, and troublemakers like Magneton and Lapras were OHKO'd this time around.

    Player: Malfoy
    Badges: 3
    Pokedex: 6
    Time: 3:15
    Type: Dragon
    Current Version: Silver

Current Team in less boring, more compact form:

    Thing One level 26 ♂
    :t147:
    Headbutt
    Dragon Rage
    Thunder Wave
    Twister

    Thing Two Level 18 ♂
    :t147:
    Wrap
    Leer
    Thunder Wave
    Twister

HM Slave: Quilava, L22: Cut/Rock Smash

Starting out was a breeze. I basically incinerated everything in sight on my quest for the Game Corner. My rival posed a bit of a challenge in Azalea, managing to get in repeated Water Guns even after 3 or 4 Smokescreens. From there, I snuck past the trainers into Goldenrod.

If you've ever tried to get a Dratini that early, it's not fun. Pooling all my resources, I was able to amass a surprisingly large fortune, but definitely not enough for 2100 coins. The slots proceeded to mock me, and I don't know how many times I ended up with 2 7's in a row and the last one 1 slot away. After a lot of frustration and soft-resetting, however, I managed to obtain Thing One, then promptly stuck him in the Daycare. After the ditto pooped out its egg, I withdrew both and released the ditto, as well as the togepi that had hatched in the meantime. I trained Thing One a bit and cycled around a lot while Thing Two hatched. Once I got bored of that, I nudged Thing One up a few levels to get Dragon Rage, then proceeded to clean the floor with Whitney. Currently en route to Ecruteak.

Side note: Why exactly is the use of legendaries disallowed? I'm not complaining (I think I'd only be able to get usage out of Giratina), just curious.

I think it's because a) It would make the challenge too easy and b) It would make it easier for users of, say, the Psychic type which has lots of legendaries to choose from, than for users of Poison or Fighting types.

Loaded up Yellow again today. Oh, right, Viridian Gym.

Note to all enemies: If you can't knock out Chitose after setting up to sweep her, YOU WILL BE BIDESWEPT. It's too bad that bide isn't a TM in future generations, though.

Flash: Only useless on attackers. Useful on Deathscale.

You know, the Foobats may have crappy specials, but against something with equally low specials (and type vulnerability), even Golbat can do decent damage with Mega/Giga Drain.

If you don't have a rock type attack, you're not going to beat me. Just sayin'. Although you might scare me into panicking...

Deathscale was the first to break level 40.

Why isn't Karate Chop a fighting move in First Gen?

    Blaster vs. Dugtrio:
Blaster wins with full health left. Hooray for AI Typing exploits!

    Blaster vs. Persian:
Blaster wins with 65 hp left.

    Blaster vs. Nidoqueen:
Where the hell did that thunder come from?

    Skye vs. Nidoqueen:
Did Thunderbolt the first round. What was I thinking? At least (1) thunder missed and (2) Skye's faster. 2HKO with Surf coming right up. Good thing I don't have Rain Dance, I'd be dead by now.

    Skye vs. Nidoking:
Nido was frozen on round one. Surf'd to death from there. NEXT!

    Deathscale vs. Rhydon
Figured I'd try this for the lulz. Poisonpowder before Guard. Spec could be used, so no flash-stopping. He rock-slided me before I could finish Psybeam Spamming.

    Skye vs. Rhydon
STAB'd Surf + 4x weakness + Faster Gyara = Dead Rhydon. Gimme that Earthbadge and Fissure TM, you silly English Kan~nigit!

Now for mah Rival. Why am I underlevelled?

Edit: AI Typing Exploit + Agility on the Jolteon + Metronomed Hitmonchan pulling Rage out of nowhere = Win? I'm redoing that, it's not a legal win. BUT IT'S PRETTY FAMN DUNNY!
