Ultimate Monotype Challenge

Not open for further replies.
Hm...since I had already completed a Water mono-type in Ruby before this I should probably erase that, no? XD

-Ter
I am not sure what you mean by that. o.o

I am facing Red right now, he is nearly impossible, so Im going to grind, a lot.

P.S. Is there anyway to evolve my Haunter on the VBA?
I was about to say I had no idea how that works, so thank you jigglypuff8 for having a better answer. :D

Time for my first update!

So I've been playing since Saturday, and haven't had as much time as I'd like. With that being said, my team's moves are ... well, they just suck. .__.; I've beaten all three gyms, and am on my way to Rock Tunnel. I'm currently on Route 9, fighting the trainers along the way to level up Mr.Mime. I could have sworn one of the trainers north of the Nugget Bridge told me that they could see my "feat" through the grass. XD

Can anybody tell me if I'm safe if my Pokémon end up past level 30? The Cascadebadge says all Pokémon up to level 30 will obey, so I'm not sure if I want to level up Hypno or Kadabra too much more, in fear that they wont obey me... .__.

Hypno Lv. 26

Headbutt

Kadabra Lv. 25

Teleport

Mr.Mime Lv. 16

Bellsprout Lv. 14 (HMSlave)

Eww, white backgrounds. .__.

-phew. After some training i was ready to take on the pokemon league. Excessively levelled Castform and Exploud. These guys would do ALL the damage. And they did.
The other guys were like cannon fodders for when i needed to revive or heal castform and exploud.

My current Normal team:

FUZZ (Linoone)
lvl51
*pokemonelite2000 image removed*
-Slash
-Rock Smash
-Dig
-Headbutt

Moving on to D/P when i find a decent emulator for the DS. Any suggestions for which?

Try No$GBA, its the only emulator (i think) that worls with Diamond and Pearl. Too bad I cant use it bcuz my PC turns evil

Here's what another day of grinding and a day of actual progress got me. I'm about to go to the underwater cavern to stop Team Aqua from awakening Kyogre, with the following team:

-Screech
-Leaf Blade
-Pursuit

EDIT: I beat the Elite Four about two days after I made the original post, but since I'm the last poster, I'm just editing this post with my final Sapphire team.

Well, here's my final Sapphire team:

Ludicolo Lv47
"image removed"
-Surf
-Fake Out
-Ice Beam
-Thief

Sceptile Lv47

Now that I'm done with Sapphire, it's on to Platinum for me. I have my team already planned out for that game, but I just hope I do fine playing a japanese game that I don't understand.

Did a lot of grinding during PC's downtime... OK I was looking at another forum, but I pulled a couple all-nighters for grinding.

Caught Pinsir in the contest and replaced Ariados. Trained my team to level 43. Defeated the E4 today; Lance's Aerodactyl completely wiped out my team for two times but once it was defeated, the rest was more or less easy

Emulators Can Trade!!!!!!!

i am considering starting your challenge but wanted to inform my fellow emulator users of a recent discovery of mine, TGB-Dual 7. it is an emulator that allows you to open two game files at once. if youve been using vba just copy your .sav file into the saved games folder and if u want to use the second emulator u need the alter the file extension to .sa2, i suggest copying for saftey.

i cant post urls yet so just google TGB-Dual 7

Well, I finally defeated Red in Crystal. I grinded to level 60-65 for all of my pokemon. The only problems were his Espeon, which was brought down by Jelly's Hydro Pumps, as I discovered how good of a Special Sponge Tentacruels are. Snorlax was brought down by Smoakrs Explosion, I gave up trying to whittle it down, Explosion defeated him in one hit. Charizard went down to a Hydro Pump and a few Surfs from Jelly. Venusaur was defeated by Boo's Psychics, Blastoise fell to Veno's Giga Drains, while his Pikachu went down to Kobras Earthquake. It was very tough, and I thought I was way underleveled, but I managed to defeat him in the end.

Team:
Jelly/Tentacruel Lv 65
Veno/Venomoth Lv62
Smoakr/Weezing Lv63
Batty/Crobat Lv64
Boo/Haunter Lv 62
Kobra/Arbok Lv 62

I'm not going to post the moves they have, as it is almost the same as last time, except for Hydro Pump for Jelly and Giga Drain for Veno.

Now I move on to Hoenn!

Does anyone know a good DS emulator for when I get to Sinnoh?

Erm, I haven't updated for a while. o.o

I haven't been able to play as much as I have wanted, but since last time, I have made it through Rock Tunnel, beat Erica, made it through Lavender Tower, beat the Fighting Dojo (picked Hitmonlee, not that it matters), made it through Silph Co., beat Sabrina (her Alakazam only used Recover the whole battle XD), made it to Fuchsia, and obtained both a Jynx and an Exeggcute. Now my only problem is, what six Pokémon do I want to keep in the end? :/ I have yet to go up against Koga, as I want to get Exeggcute and/or Jynx up to the same level as my others.

My team:
Exeggcute Lv26
"image removed"
Barrage
Hypnosis
Reflect

Hypno Lv44
"image removed"
Psychic
Poison Gas
Headbutt
Confusion

Mr.Mime Lv44
"image removed"

Meditate
Doubleslap

Kadabra Lv44

Psychic
Confusion
Recover
Psybeam

Bellsprout Lv14 (Cut)
Doduo Lv24 (Fly)

Very very tiny update.

What are you calling an update so small it needs to be put right under a magnifying glass to see?!?!?!

Anyway, all that's happened is that I got my starter (in Platinum), battled my rival for the first time, went through a catching tutorial with Lucas (male trainer), and caught myself my first wild pokemon of this region.

Here's my team (ignore the double sprites, it's the source):

Budew Lv5
[PokeCommunity.com] Ultimate Monotype Challenge

-Absorb
-Growth

Turtwig Lv12
[PokeCommunity.com] Ultimate Monotype Challenge

-Tackle
-Withdraw
-Absorb

My main goal for now (regarding the run) is to keep Budew happy so it can evolve as soon as possible.

Beat Red version for my Rock Challenge, hooray for me. Blue's Blastoise was probably the toughest part, but revive/revenge killing combo did it in. Lorelei in general was a pain, but only took a few attempts.

*pokemonelite2000 image removed*
Darrel (Aerodactyl) lvl. 44
-Wing Attack
-Agility
-Fly
-Bite
SUMMARY: Dealt with just about every Grass type I ran into. A lifesaver when needed, but wasn't used too often, and thus was a but underleveled.

*pokemonelite2000 image removed*
Donny (Rhydon) lvl. 49
-Strength
-Surf
-Stomp
-Tail Whip
SUMMARY: Great, durable fighter. One of my two special attackers. He was slower than the other, but hit harder and took damage better. I busted through tons of trainers with this bad boy alone, no potions needed.

*pokemonelite2000 image removed*
Nick (Onix) lvl. 48
-Strength
-Rock Slide
-Bind
-Slam
SUMMARY: To be honest, the least useful of the team. He managed to trap a few opponents with Bind from time to time, but otherwise outdone by Russell at all times. Still a giant rock snake, so awesome in merit.

*pokemonelite2000 image removed*
Russell (Graveler) lvl. 50
-Body Slam
-Earthquake
-Rock Throw
-Seismic Toss
SUMMARY: Killer physical attacker, did everything he needed to do perfectly. Basically annihilated everything that didn't OHKO him, his only flaw was not having enough PP.

*pokemonelite2000 image removed*
Butch (Kabutops) lvl. 53
-Surf
-Hydro Pump
-Slash
-Absorb
SUMMARY: A lifesaver against all water types. Lorelei would have completely blocked me off if this guy weren't around. It should be noted that Butch delivered the final hit to Blue's Blastoise.

Crystal is up next, Sudowoodo is imminent. And possibly Shuckle.

After a lot of grinding, i beat Red today. This was not too hard, venomoth put pikachu asleep, which allowed scyther to use swords dance 3 times and sweep through reds team.
but i was still lucky charizard used fire spin and it missed...

Final Team:

Scyther lv. 74
-Steel wing
-Swords dance
-Wing att.
-Slash

Venomoth lv. 72
-Flash =\
-Sleep Powder
-Psychic
-Giga Drain

Heracross l.72
-Strength
-Reversal
-Earthquake
-Megahorn

Beedrill l.72
-Sludge bomb
-Cut
-Twinneedle
-Pin missile

Ledian l.72
-Solar Beam
-Safeguard
-Ice punch
-Thunder Punch

Pinsir lv. 72
-Swords Dance
-Hyper Beam
-Submission
-Strength

Because I started with crystal, i'll do red now.
