Ultimate Monotype Challenge

Is it too late to sign up?

I haven't done a monotype challenge since I was 10 and tried to go through Gold using only fire-types. Needless to say, I failed miserably. Fire pokemon are frustratingly rare, despite quite clearly being the coolest type there is.

Anyway, I'd like to give the challenge a go. I'd be going with either Water - the most common type and sharing many sub-types - or Normal, due to its flexibility and availability early on in the game. I'll let you know when I decide.

Well, I decided to go with water and my God is it frustrating in Blue! I found a Clefairy, Jigglypuff and Onix that all eluded me in earlier games, but couldn't catch any of them! And I haven't come across any other water pokemon as of yet, so I've just got a my trusty Wartortle, who destroyed Brock with three bubbles, and has just taken out Misty with the repeated use of Bite and a sneaky little Tail Whip.

Also, I started up a game on Crystal. Yes, I do have such a short attention span that I have to switch between two games at once! Anyway, I'm just hanging around the route beyond Cherrygrove at the moment, on my way to Violet City.

Can I get in on this challenge? I'm still on the fence for which type to choose - either Fire, Fighting, or ground. I'll let you know on my first update post, and either way, I'll be using blue and crystal for the first two stages.

One question if I go with fire - is Arcanine considered legendary?

ok, i beat the first two gyms with steubenIII doing most of the work

i also caught a ponyta which i named "hell yeah", even though i don't really like ponyta

and i'm currently in mt. coronet just after cycling road.

I got my first two badges, cleared Eterna of Team Galactic, and now I'm outside of the Oreburgh pokemon center, preparing for Mt. Coronet. I also ditched Budew, because it was too hard to train, and I can get a Roselia really soon anyway.

I guess I never posted another update here, but I put the gym and rival battles on youtube, search pokecrystal451 if you're interested.
I made it through Cerulean without much trouble, and easily passed through Vermilion and Lt. Surge. Then came rock tunnel. I actually had to go back to the pokecenter before I made it all the way out, Nidoqueen and Onix were the only survivors, both with about 5 hp left. I made it through easily the second time, (I had two trainers left to battle) and then took care of ??? in Pokemon tower. I just kicked the rockets out of Celadon, and am now preparing to go fight Erika.

Well, time for another update I think!

I got myself an Old Rod at Vermillion and caught myself a Magikarp, sticking it in the daycare before I carried on to SS Anne. I made it through with a few ethers and potions, while my little Gunner evolved into Blastoise! :) I was a bit worried about facing Lt Surge with one water-type pokemon, but then I remembered my little present from Cerulean - TM28! I taught Blastoise Dig and ploughed through the electric pokemon. Then I popped old Magikarp out of the Daycare, and levelled him up one to gain a shiny new Gyrados!

Gyrados easily made his way through rock tunnel, gaining a good 12 levels on the way. I beat my rival easily enough at Lavender (Dig took care of Ivysaur), and headed across to Celadon. I've got myself a Vaporeon and taught it a few TMs, now I'm off to train it against some pesky Rockets!

I started my Sapphire journey. I chose Mudkip and did all the beginning stuff, then proceeded to catch a Wurmple. I trained it, but it evolvwed into Silcoon, so I caught another. I cauht like 3, they all became Silcoons, but my fourth one was a Cascoon, and I evolved the Cascoon into a Dustox. I am currently in Rustboro, traiining Dustox for the gym

I beat Erika, Sabrina, Koga, Blaine, and my rival, and kicked the rockets out of Saffron City. It seems like ground was a good type to choose, no trainers have really given me any trouble. The legendary birds, on the other hand, were a different story. I must've spent 45 minutes with Articuno, but I finally caught it :)
Next is a ground vs. ground fight in Viridian, and then the E4
